I have a 1979 Camaro nearly identical to this one, but is light blue and is a 305 auto. Also no rear spoiler. My Dad bought it in July of 1991, and it has been stored in a barn almost all of that time to this day. Less than 8,000 miles have been put on it since he bought it. It's a fairly clean car inside and out, but does need a lot of work. It does run and the transmission was rebuilt in recent years. New brakes all around in 2017. Unfortunately, my Dad hit a deer with it about 30 years ago. Some paint is missing from the left front, the drivers door has a crease in it, mirror broke off, and the door glass shattered. A non-tinted window was put in, although I have a new tinted window that I'd like put in one day. And a dark blue mirror was put on from a parts car a very long time ago after that. My car could use the love you guys gave this one! My brother has already ceramic coated, clay barred, etc. and it looks very good. Probably wouldn't need much interior cleaning, and under the hood probably could use like what you did in the video, and definitely the tool you used for under the car, since there has always been spider webs under it. Where can I buy one of those? Car is located in Michigan (south of Lansing) if you are looking to do another car like the one you did an excellent job on!

Wheel nuts? New seat covers? What? I'm sure this car needs new engine, transmission and suspension after all these years.
@cloakedgt4 ай бұрын
@@andrewcocos I never said wheel nuts, seat upholstery yes they sell it as a cover so you un staple them from the bottom and pull the new covers over the foam and re staple the new ones on why would it need a new motor and transmission? if it runs fine and doesn't smoke and the transmission shifts then who cares, im a mechanic who has restored an entire car similar to his...and this guy and this car definitely doesn't go racing, plus you dont just get a new engine...its likely never been changed why would you throw away the original motor and transmission rather then having it rebuilt? that just kills the desirability and value even though its not a valuable car you dont seem like you know that much to speak against what i said

@@cloakedgt it was owner who cared about the wheels. With all due respect, I will never believe that engine that was sitting for 35 years will work without full rebuild.

The 1977 Camaro was the last of the early second-generation models and marked the first time it outsold the Mustang. It offered engines from a fuel-efficient inline-six to a powerful 350-cubic-inch V8. The Z28 performance model returned with 185 horsepower, and while the car became a pop culture icon, it lacked a convertible option, which had been discontinued after 1969.

My first car in 1987 was a 1971 Maroon/Black perfect condition very low mileage Camaro. The motor and Trans were built. *Back in 1987 my sister blew up the third V8 engines in her very nice 79 T Top Camaro.* She would often street race her car, never checking the fluid levels or let us know when the engine lights came on. After the third engine and the second built engine I put in it. I eventually put a basic straight six in it. I refused to loose another expensive engine to stupidity or laziness. She eventually sold the car because she was sick of being laughed at.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the third gen Camaros, especially the 1985 to `1990 IROC Camaros. IMHO, those were the peak years for both the Camaro styling and performance. I like the hardtop coupes, but the T-top cars and the later convertibles are pretty special too. I wasn't into the base Camaros when I was in high school, but now I see them as great project cars for engine swaps, especially if they get the LS engines and manual transmissions that these cars deserved back when they were new.

Green corrosion indicates the presence of copper. In this case, it’s likely from the plating process. Copper plays nice with almost everybody, so it’s is a common go-between plating material to bond dissimilar metals. A die-cast zinc or aluminum badge gets copper-plated first, then chrome-plated. You can even bond chrome to plastic as long as you plate it with copper first.

I enjoyed this video, I had this same car and had many a great time doing Rally in it on the beautiful roads of the NH mountains. I was the second owner, the first was the Chevy Dealership, it was for interested Camaro buyers to drive and see if they wanted to order one. The freaky thing was one of the owners of this dealership had a Corvette motor put in it. Beefed up suspension and things I cannot even remember. I had a family friend who was a former mechanic for Nascar rides and I brought it to him to check it all out. He took me for a ride in it that I will never forget! First time I had ever gone over a 100 mph and he tested out the beefed up suspension and did some trick driving that had my eyes watering. That is when I decided I would do Rally with this car and it was such a fun time in my life. Oh, by the way, I am a female, and had always loved cars, especially the muscle cars of my generation. Had a 67 Pontiac GTO through high school. My family friend found that for me and he did any and all work it ever needed. I passed that to my younger brother when I bought the Camaro. Now I wish I had parked it in a garage properly to get out in 2024, I bet it was worth way more than I had paid for it.
