Matt, I’ve followed your channel for many years. I’ve seen you battle through many ups and downs but your resilience, willing to adapt to new endeavors like commentating and “never give up” spirit serves as an inspiration for, not only dart players, but for people in general. If this was your last professional dart thrown, thank you for sharing the stories and certainly look forward to seeing a lot more of you on EdgarTV!!! 👍👍👍

For old school dart connoisseurs there is something about Lakeside, it stinks of meat and potato pie (lobbies if you're northern) and stale beer in carpets but it's a special special place. If I had the ability to get up there, then there is no way I would decide not to go for it, the darts would need to tell me it's time to stop.

Anyone who has truly dedicated themselves to a sport or game in hopes of being the best believe in their minds that they can do it. Unfortunately, we are all limited by the body that houses that incredible will to be great. Sometimes it simply lacks the natural ability other times it breaks down on us after years of use. I know you don't need validation from your followers, but I'd just like to say thank you for taking us on your journey to Lakeside. As someone also dealing with injury, your determination and fight to achieve your goal is inspiring. I'm sorry that you didn't win it all, but you certainly did not lose. Cheers, Matt.

Great video Matt. I watched your game on KZbin and I was absolutely gutted for you. I was hoping you would get that second set and kick on, but this is darts and doesn't always go your way. All I can say is, whatever decision you make you have the support of your followers and members. We would obviously love to see you back next year playing, but I would say go with what makes you happy. Keep up the good work Matt and what a year it has been 👍🏼🎯

I happened to hop on the event stream just as the second set started, and saw what you may consider to be the best of you. I was glad to see you pick up the two legs, and gutted when it all fell apart in the final leg. Take your time, but most importantly follow your heart and your doctor's recommendations. I'll stay subscribed regardless, and look forward to whatever content you put out.

Thanks for sharing Matt. I would advise you to have the operation if you can. I had mine done many years ago. It made a big difference in my darts afterwards. I know over here in Canada it has to be really bad before they will operate and i am guessing it maybe the same for you. Get it done and get back at the darts. You won't be sorry. Best of luck. I will be following to see what happens and what you deside.

I agree with what you're saying - the career that you've had, the ability that you have, going out in the first round of Lakeside as your last hurrah doesn't fit. You said that you don't know if you can do better but I think that's just the loss talking, you've won events this year against players of an equivalent standard so you do know that you can do better and you've proved it this year. Imo, we go again.

I don't think your average punter who has never played "proper darts" had any idea how hard it is to play High level consistent darts like we see in the PDC,,just like many other professional sports there are LEVELS to the Game! There are hundreds mabe even thousands of darts players that can hit a 12 to 15darts leg quite often in their local leagues but to be able to do it leg after leg whilst playing another player that can also play well and do it whilst copeing under the immense pressure that comes with playing in any tournament let alone a Highly Prestigious Tournaments like the World Championships takes a special player and unfortunately not everyone can be that "special player" that is why we admire World champions Because they are those Special Players ....🏆🎯👍

If the arm affects day to day life, get it sorted for you, like Laura Robson did when she had to get a hip operation with only limited chance if returning to pro tennis. If you have an operation and get back, bonus. If you don't but are comfortable in life, you are developing as a broadcaster and will continue to do so.

I think you should carry on playing, you put numbers in this year that were way better than an 80 average at points. Let's be honest, you haven't been that consistent in terms of events, if you play once every 2 months if that it's not going to get you to the top of your game. I think if you genuinely did a whole year on the tour you'd be hitting 90+ averages regularly

Is he at the level that he was, no not really and ge is the first to admit it. But he can still throw a mean dart. I understand that you want to be competative but there are lots more chances out there now with all the events. Plus i am sure you could put on the edgar mania darts tournement sponsored by mission. Have people qualifiy to a royal rumble or king of the ring style winner stays on type of thing. Anyways dont give up having fun.
