For all the assumed bluster/arrogance you may perceive from Tom on WDWNT, I’m here to tell you from personal experience that he is a genuinely kind and amiable guy. I had the pleasure of running into him at Disney Springs during the holiday season of 2022 and he surprisingly took quite a while to stand and speak with me about our shared passion. I think when you hear him speak on KZbin, he is speaking out of passion, but also frustration for some of Disney’s mis-steps over the years… With a lot of historical reference, he’s able to seamlessly explain why Disney once was a great, and it has seemed to falter in recent years. Converging with him in person was one of the highlights of my trip.

WDWNT is an excellent source for WDW information. I personally think that Tom and his crew are excellent in what they do. They never said they “hated” anyone. There are too many terrible WDW bloggers out there today. And some of the ones at the top of the heap in subscribers are among the worst. Tom’s an honest guy and tells it like it is. If people can’t handle the truth, then they shouldn’t listen. Let them listen to crap like Jojo’s World…
@pap64 Жыл бұрын
As for the Disney Vloggers thing; yeah, I will agree there are too many of them at this point, and it is more about the personality and less about the actual Theme Park experience. My gripe with them is when they make one video saying how Disney is on a downfall, that Disney needs to change, that they are not happy with the experience, and they are very serious about it. BUT THEN they get invited to a media event for an attraction open, a restaurant, a hard-ticketed event, and they start to RAVE about Disney like you guys mentioned, over-hyping the stuff because deep down they want to keep being invited to these events, they want to keep that content flowing, and they want that revenue. So it's a bit too two-faced when they make videos saying how Disney sucks now only to turn back say 'DISNEY IS THE BEST EVER" with the most insincere miles on camera. That I will give Tom credit for and I think audiences are catching on.

While I get what you are saying, the whole point of vloggers is that you get to like them and their content, so their personality is their brand. You watch for the Disney stuff, but you keep watching, because you like the personality they show on video. If I turned on a Disney theme park vlog and I didn’t like the people, in the video, I wouldn’t watch it would I.

Tom is sooo passionate about Disney. He lives and breaths it, and i think thats why he can come accross arrogant sometimes. He takes this seriously and other vloggers don't, and that irritates him. I get him. Also, you need the rainbow of vloggers. People have different likes and wants, and the community needs to be diverse.
@pap64 Жыл бұрын
Using the Ratatoutille Metaphor that Tom himself used, he's basically an Anton Ego, someone that got SO passionate about something that he lost joy and became a critic. Also using the whole 'HE'S PASSIONATE' thing is not a valid excuse for his arrogant behavior. One could say the same thing about the vloggers and just say "BUT THEY ARE LIVING THEIR BEST LIVES DON'T JUDGE!" while seeing them get drunk and harass guests and cast members. One can be passionate and call out issues without having to be condescending about it. It just makes Tom look worse in the long run.

@@shawnokeefe1580 That's very basic examples; many KZbinrs and bloggers report on disrepairs. The whole issue with ToonTown and San Fransokyo at Disneyland have been covered by the likes of Fresh Baked, Provost Park Pass and essentially all of Disney Twitter. You have to remember that everyone is connected so if people notice anything off at the parks it's all over social media and KZbin, so no, Tom is not a catalyst for anything that happens or changes at the park, and quite frankly ANY Disney news site, vlogger, and KZbinr that claims to do so needs to get their heads off the clouds and get back to reality.

I will say this. Agreed that Disney Management does not care about opinions of influencers OR even, tragically, their own guests. UNLESS...it causes them (Disney) to lose money or make them look bad on a large scale. I've been watching WDWNT for a while, and I've seen Tom show park footage of what most fans feel are "bad show," where areas and attractions are run-down and dirty, and by the next episode, that area/ride/hotel/restaurant, has been cleaned up & painted. Even Tom admits it might just be coincidence, but I believe that vloggers/influencers with a high number of subscribers, like Tom, are certainly looked at by corporations. Obviously not by Bob Iger himself, but having worked for Disney in the past, I know they have eyes everywhere making sure no one gives them a bad name. (Disney's been doing a fine job of that on their own over the last several years.) I currently work for a large worldwide corporation that has a department dedicated to all things social media, including pros and cons and brand protection, so I can see Disney doing/having the same thing. So while he may not have influence to creat a new land or ride, he does have the influence to call out Disney on their lack of standards and get noticed by Disney Management. If they're inviting people like Tom to special events, you know they're scrutinized/vetted before those invites go out.

🇬🇧 There are too many vloggers, worldwide, often ruining the experience for ordinary people. I recently went to a new farm shop /homeware centre in the UK which was absolutely full of vloggers, in Hunter wellies and English country clothing, which had never seen a horse or a farm. They were intrusive and obnoxious. There should be special days or events for these KZbinrs and leave the venues alone for the ordinary people afterwards. I love WDWNT, I think Tom is funny and informative and is spot on regarding the DFB guide. We stopped watching it because their video titles indicate that they’re going to blow the lid on something and then spend the whole vlog rationalising everything. I don’t think the bloggers hate each other, I think they’re competitive and need to keep some of their ideas to themselves. The Florida residents edits are absolute bullies and I wouldn’t watch their channel because of their tactics. They are very focussed on the Trackers in particular.

As a photographer. I find that the Disney Photographers are more inviting than vloggers when it comes to getting into the community and being involved and collabing. I met so many photographers and popular photographers that are so happy to help and meet up in the parks and I don't see that as much with Disney Vloggers. You're kind of on your own until you get more friendly with other vloggers. I met at least 10 really well known Disney Photographers within the first few months when I started posting regularly. So, I can see vloggers not being as welcoming because of the competition but I don't see why there has to be competition. It should be more about the community since we don't own Disney or anything that we promote in the parks. I think it's silly to have that kind of stance that you don't want to be affiliated with any other influencers. Unless somebody is rude and obnoxious or just annoying in general then obviously you wouldn't want to be associated with that person but so far I've only had good experiences with other fellow Disney photography influencers.

I know a couple of friends that hit the Disney Vlogging thing super hard at first but then get burned out after a couple of years. But yeah,...people move to Orlando for Disney and,..yep,..have constant fun time for a year or two...but in time, the honeymoon wears off. It can really lose it's luster when you go to WDW soooooooo much and then you struggle to find "anything" new to show in your video that you have not shown 1000 times before.

Sorry for the comments but forgot to mention that the British Guy is Jack from DSNY Newscast and I have heard from Cast member friends that he can be a bit of a jerk especially to Cast members when he is doing his news videos. He is still pretty decent at analyzing the news and getting deep into why something worked and didn't work. But when he got into a spat with Brayden of Mickey Views, they both lost points on my eyes as their argument on Twitter about who had the right information about the Blue Sky concept art shown off last year was rather childish for both men to engage in, and in a way proved what this podcast is saying about Disney content creators secretly hating each other, and it all boils down to one thing; EGOS. They all want to be the best Disney KZbinr, news reporter, and Vloggers, and when they all want to be the best and gain views, they can get nasty. If anything this should be a cautionary tale about doing something out of passion or out of financial gain, mainly how one shouldn't overtake the other as you can still have a loving passion towards something but also find a clever way to gain profits of it.

He’s the best vlogger in my opinion. He’s so informative, and fact based. I also watch dsny newscast. What's ridiculous about DFB possibly wasting the food? And to dismiss it as "They can't eat all the food," they don't need to buy/accept it. They can literally just take pictures from inside the case or find images of it on the internet. Learning that about DFB also annoyed me. The lady podcaster here seems just as petty and biased as she's accusing Tom of being. Seems very hypocritical to me. the fact that the male podcaster had to stop her from being unprofessional and blurting someone's channel name that she thinks would be disgruntled enough to glare down other creaters, but then implies that Tom and Eric are lying because they didn't name the person it... again. Hypocritical. Also, you don't drink. Awesome for you, but you come off VERY judgemental in this podcast to people that do. Ok, true that yes going back and forth to Disney to make a selfish boulevards to trash Disney sets me off but the one thing that I cannot stand is when the ones who call out the trashing to cut a boulevards to trash Disney themselves and also trash those who are using this platform, etc. to share their Disney Experiences so that those who cannot go to Disney have a way to experience Disney at the very least in a virtual sense. Now, one of the things that I have been saying on this topic about this repetitive criticizing on Disney and repetitive coverage of Disney and claiming to be a Disney Fan is this. If you are trying to come to Disney repetitively to cut a boulevards to complain over selfish reasons to be a bully towards those people at Disney who welcome you and make serve you then I believe that I should have a right to question that person's motives for going to Disney, much less if they are really a Disney Fan or not. But I have to expand that now to you the hypocrites who trash other Disney Vloggers/Podcasters to trash Disney Yourselves. If you have that big of a problem with taping in the parks that you have to dictate and control people who tape in the parks in My View You can GO TO HELL and BURN IN HELL TIMES INFINITY because that video taping today becomes their ONLY "souvenir video of their vacation" something that Disney used to make and update officially and sell in the parks. Here's a few tips for you If what the person is using is not yours or if you choose to have private conversations in front of people including those who are video taping or if you choose to visit or stay at a pace where other people are then you need to shut the mighty hell up. And, yes I do disagree with some of the mockery of the company, etc. that Tom Corless and WDWNT does and yes they have gotten some backlash from the company for it but you know what? At the very least Tom Corless and WDWNT are trying to hold the brain trust of the Company accountable to being more honest to Walt, The Cast Members and The Fans. At least Tom Corless and WDWNT has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that they give a care and have a passion for the stability of the foundation that Walt's Legacy is built on and is holding the company accountable to that ends by calling out and mocking the self destructive and deceptive decisions made by the brain trust of company. As I like to put it, The Higher Power above us all uses the wicked to confound the wise and those who think that they are wise in the Walt Disney Company. At least Tom Corless and WDWNT is showing what is going on so that people who book their trip can be prepared and understand where their money is going to. So the next time you go around here cutting boulevards to persecute Disney Vloggers/Podcasters You had better take a moment and look at the kind of being you are because people in glass houses should not be throwing stones.

In truth it’s not much different from our parents’ old school vhs recorders of the 90s they used to walk around with everywhere to capture our trips as kids. Some people also are just doing that. I’ll video on occasion so my nephews can watch when they don’t come with us. Not by any means trying to be a pro or even promote to the masses. almost all of the ones that involve our family home videos, I post as private… I also know we will cherish these when my kid is older just like we gather on holidays and watch our six flags trips from when I was a kid. 🤷🏻♀️

You know, I agree that it seems like Tom is the one who has a problem with other vloggers. I wouldn’t be surprised if we find out that’s he’s one of the main people behind the Disney vloggers section on Tattle. (For those not in the know. This awful message board where people say some rather nasty things about the vloggers, but that’s a conversation for another day.)

Just from this episode, I'm not sure I'll keep watching. The amount of negativity coming from Cathy where she mentions that she hates several people/channels discussed here seems excessive. I get that everyone has opinions, and that's fine, but it's a bit off putting. And I get that she thinks Tom acts high and mighty/above it all, but does it need to be mentioned over and over and over again? Maybe they have other more lighthearted videos covering topics and people they both like and might be a little more positive on. Edited for clarity.

I am actually a fan of WDWNT (including the silly content)! It’s fun!! I really and truly do not understand the livestream thing - I have zero desire to watch someone walk around a park reading out a chat. No hate just not fun to me. I got into watching livestreams when the parks first reopened and I couldn’t travel but I don’t really get it. 🤷🏻♀️

I hate livestreams. I can’t stand when they talk to ppl in chat. It’s like being at a dinner table with someone who has an earbud and intermittently talks to their friend on the phone. Just annoying.

This is why i say Tom is an influencer lol! He influences peoples opinions and is important enough to have an entire show dedicated to his own show lol! But i do honestly thing Tom does have some power to change Disney only because they try so hard to stop Tom’s reporting. Edit: i will say DFB does a ton of rating and raving about food they think it’s worth trying and Tom mentioned in the podcast that they have tried some of the DFB top food picks and they were not as good as they advertised. I still Ike DFB but eh i get Tom’s opinion. If they are going to “try the food” that Disney is “showcasing” and they didnt try the food but still “recommend it” i have to agree with Tom it makes me question their entire blog. He also spoke at length about his experiences at Disney media events so i can see his perspective personally.

59:00 what Tom is saying about them is correct two different incidents one of my friends saw them take a photo and throw it away and another incident was one of my friends ran into AJ. Saw her take a picture of the food and asked them if they wanted it gave it to them and AJ wrote a good review of it and was like oh it is the best thing at the festival. And she didn’t even taste it, and they said after seeing what she said about it, that they wouldn’t have even spent the money on it because it was flavorless and gross.

I think all of Disney vloggers feel they are legit, WDWNT don't do the polyana Disney news, it is clear that some of the streamers are fake friends with other because they are all competing with each other for viewers and ad revenue. I only watch channels that have a regular rotation of what I like to see so it doesn'tget boring for me and I take breaks from watching when I get bored. When a streamer is bored with doing the same thing all the time, it transfers to the viewer. As far non concent that is an issue, some streamers such as FPE (Florida Park Explorers) have children that want to say HI on camera and they always find out how old they are and check with their parents or adult they are with first, as an example. I have noticed how many streamers, if they are self aware will point the camera away from people or at themselves in a line, which is respectful. I appreciate your point about how a lot of the channels are personality driven and the parks or any activity is secondary, this is why I like Disney Food Blog cause they aren't on camera, I don't need to watch people eat (hate it)I am not Best Life and Beyond hater, I think they enjoy being infamous, wearing the black hat. Great Discussion

Tom has no charisma no charm he’s not funny and ego that wouldn’t fit on spaceship earth. He doesn’t just come off as jealous of other Disney KZbinrs but it’s clear that he is. He gets like 3k-10k views per video while someone like Mickey Views gets like 90k+ with half the subscribers. It’s clear he thinks he should have the biggest Disney channel and he hates that he doesn’t

The WDWNT podcast was even-handed, given the topic, and they handled the troubling allegations against Pete Werner with a great deal of class. It’s certainly off-putting to hear anybody label themselves an influencer (it always smacks of hubris), but in this case, it was true. WDWNT’s Twitter account has 403,000 followers and it is widely accepted that a June 26, 2019 post on the Disney Parks Blog took aim at WDWNT, including in the fan chatter on the Blog itself that afternoon. Tom’s analysis of the situation makes sense: you don’t “punch down” at somebody that’s beneath your interest. Disney is listening for Tom even if they aren’t listening *to* Tom. I love WDWNT, and Tom and the cast are the reason. I think part of WDWNT/Tom’s appeal to fans is that he’s allowed his foibles--his ego, his managerial style, his romantic mishaps--to be exposed in a way other personalities that cover Disney have not. And it’s not just that Tom lost media access a while back and therefore had to rebrand himself as an “independent voice.” It’s that blogs like TPM Vids or DFB Guide are overproduced to the point of being saccharine. I love all three, but WDWNT is considerably more human. DFB Guide is essentially an extension of Disney marketing, while WDWNT is true commentary. Tom also has a clear philosophy of journalism that serves as his North Star, which I find admirable. He’s both a trained journalist and a journalist in practice. It’s normal for somebody in that position-especially a successful entrepreneur-to compare themselves to major people in the field. Adult Disney fans (ADFs), influencers included, appear to comprise a significant new demographic for Disney-one that is experience-inelastic in a way that “the family from Denver” is not. The ADF is seeking to activate nostalgia, which they can achieve just by being present in the parks. Influencers in particular want to convey an experience-good or bad. The family from Denver won’t come back if they have a bad time, but for the ADF-Influencer, a bad time is equally as marketable as a good time, and maybe even *more* desirable. I would also argue that no company with such an intrusive survey operation is *not* listening to customers. The issue is that the interests of the “family from Denver” don’t really align with the people who treat Disney-watching as a lifestyle in itself. The family from Denver wants to “live the movies”-they want to take young kids to see their favorite IP, they aren’t expecting much from Disney restaurants, and they wouldn’t know a call-back to Yesterworld if it bit them on the nose. I think Tom and others are very correct in saying that Disney wouldn’t lose money if they tried another tack, but it seems fairly obvious that the surveys, combined with cost pressures, are driving Disney in a certain reductive direction.

I like Tom, took me a second to warm but I think he really does care. I didn't get the beef with DFB before but I get it. He is invested and says they aren't so much. He is a goofball really - dry as dirt but a goofball. They have coincidentally reported some things that got 'corrected or fixed' at Disney straight away. They also do nothing paid - their reviews and opinions they own with no contingency to Disney. I like him, some of his cast of characters on the channel get on my nerves - there is one that just screams... but yeah - that's my opinion. Thanks for covering.
