GREAT book! Original Figment is one of the best attractions ever in WDW and I wish they would bring it back! There are so many incredible references in the book...brings me back to the 80's. Also miss the Imagination playland called ImageWorks. As an adult, I loved this entire pavilion and spent much time here. Thanks for the narration.

❤ Tom totally loves you reading the figment story. I am buying that. That is my all time favorite character. I am 43 years old and I love Figment ❤️ I wish they would put the dream finder back in the figment. Ride just the way he used to be in the 80s.🎉😊

IDK if anyone’s pointed it out yet, but here’s another Easter egg; the smiling drama mask in this book that’s drawn to resemble Tony Baxter is a VERY deep cut reference to the intro of Melody Time. The frowning drama mask on the same page is directly lifted from Make Mine Music (specifically from the opening titles of the “Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met” sequence).

I just got this book delivered today, ordering on Amazon months ago. Your read-through and history was so enjoyable and brought back all the memories I have of that wonderful attraction and Epcot of that era. I was at Epcot on opening day (really the day before they allowed resort guests in to just walk around). The technology at Epcot back then was ground breaking. The touch-screen information kiosks where you “Facetimed” with a live person if you needed assistance - in the early 1980s!! The trackless guide-by-wire “Theater Cars” of Universe of Energy and so much more! That would be a fun video you should do - The technology and ride system of Epcot back then! And if you do, I have lot’s of photos I can share!

There could be another easter egg involving the drawing of Dreamfinder and Figment at the end! I could be wrong but, the Figment drawing looks extremely close to the Pook A Looz plush. The horns turn outwards, The mouth is purple and open, the tail's on the right side, the wings turn outwards, even the belly has two lines near the top. Even if it's not a reference it's interesting to see the similarities :)

I have a feeling that Dreamfinder’s rocket ship is styled after the one version of Space Mountain that was thematically different. The one with the cannon to space? I can’t remember exactly I think it was Euro Disney Space Mountain that did that.
@conniesmith8622 Жыл бұрын
I don't know if it was styled after EuroDisney aka Disneyland Paris rocket on Space Mountain. The rocket you mention was styled after the Jules Verne version from his novel From the Earth to the Moon

Received my copy yesterday! It's a such a brilliant little book. Might be my favorite piece of Figment merchandise ever made, honestly. Maybe that could be the sequel... ;D

I really think Tom needs to start a WDWNT Disney Little Golden Book Half Hour where he "breaks down" these books. He knows so much history and can instantly catch the references. I have a lot of Disney Little Golden Books, even some vintage ones, and I buy every new one I see at my local Target. I would love to watch Tom get deep in these literary works.

In the top window of the Nautilus is a silhouette of Dreamfinder waving at Figment, who is waving back. The cover of the "Nightmare" book has a picture of a ghost from the "Trick or Treat" short. The goose looks most like one from the "Jolly Holiday" sequence of "Mary Poppins".

I'm so happy to see that Dreamfinder was present throughout the whole book and wasn't just a small reference. I almost wanted to cry tears of joy while you read through it. I never got to experience the original attraction as I wasn't born yet before it closed, but I have watched so many videos of the original and this book just is a beautiful love letter to that Ride. You could tell the person behind this book loved the original and this gives me hope that maybe someday we will get a new version of the ride that is close to if not better than the original. I am so happy this exists and kids will get to experience the imagination and heart of the original through this.

I could be wrong and this could be just a coincidence, but the image of Figment (a dragon) holding the telescope to his eye reminds me very much of a reverse of the scene in the old World of Motion ride where a sea dragon looked directly into the end of a telescope being used by an explorer on a ship.

Here's a wild prediction. Maybe the beloved attraction is coming back and will be even better now that technology has improved and caught up to the original ride ideas (roller Coaster drops, etc) . Maybe this love letter is a big giant hint. There is one line in the book that really sounds like a teaser - "a brand new show" in the theater arts section

I am sadly too young to know of the original version of Journey into Imagination and luckily young enough to not know the successor version. I didn't even see the current iteration until the 2010s, and it was because that year, I was stumbling by myself into older Attractions on purpose to experience things I didn't even know were there, like the Tiki Room and the Carousel of Progess. And of all the rides and shows I tried that trip, Journey into Imagination with Figment was the most disappointing and boring. Every other thing I tried, I either loved or appreciated for what it was. And knowing that there was a history with the ride, but not what it was, I didn't understand why people enjoyed the ride and it felt like it was catering to an audience that either wasn't there or had passed its time instead of being timeless like some of what I viewed as it contemporaries in a way. But as I understood what the history of the Imagination Pavillion was and also saw a pretty decent recording of the original ride during the pandemic, I have slowly fallen in love with Figment and Dreamfinder and have become one of those crazy fans who goes out of his way to buy every bit of Figment merchandise I can because I love what he means to hardcore fans of Epcot and Disney Parks and as a hope that this resurgence of him in the thoughts of Disney fans, to include this book, that maybe there's some hope yet for us and our favorite little purple dragon

Why did they change the imagination station in the first place. I grew up on the west coast. I never went to DW always DL. It looked much more interesting then and made sense. Seeing it without seeing the original was confusing and so disappointing.
