Don't frost the glass! Install clear and live with it for a month or so, and if (and only if) you feel like you really need frosted glass use a 3M film. I've done this on multiple windows (2 in bathrooms on the front of the house. On the rear we have high windows in the master bath and because we have no homes on that side of the house the window remains clear. It's really nice to be in the shower and be able to see the sky and trees. Love your house!

Safety glasses are your single most important piece of equipment. Over the course of a long renovation project, you expose yourself to many unforeseen risks. You are one of the few DIY KZbinrs who take this seriously and that is good to see that. Just one eye injury can be forever life changing, so it is important to always wear your glasses when working with power tools or around objects that might unexpectedly hit you in the face. These glasses look great.

May I suggest that you be able to open some of those high windows. Think an old fashioned dormer window that when opened lets out hot air. That setup could be lovely for those days when ventilation would be better than air conditioning. The windows could be opened and closed with a pole, old school tech. - Thanks for the video.

If you do go with opening windows on those long transoms- make sure you go with aluminum framed windows. Vinyl windows will warp over time and be difficult to close tightly.

I would be using that cedar somewhere else in the house. It’s a very expensive wood and it is beautiful. Don’t throw it away. It’s still in great shape. As for heating and cooling costs, simply install solar panels on the roof and get free power from the sun. We put a 32 panel system on our roof and we make money from the power company as well as gain free power. We have a large pool which we use all year round with a heat pump to heat the water. We run reverse cycle aircon all through the house for keeping the temperature perfect and it’s all free.

There’s another great thing about having plywood on the interior walls: No need to find studs when hanging things like TVs, shelves and cabinets, you can just screw it in to the plywood structure. We often put OSB behind the drywall when building houses in Sweden for this sole purpose.

As many commented last video, really really really think it out before you commit to a house full of tiled floors. Hard, cold, rock underfoot is fine for a bathroom, but a mid-century modern styled home would definitely have wood floors, as the originals did.. Engineered wood with a sound reducing underlay is so much more comfortable to stand and walk on, plus, it’s more affordable than hardwood. Anyway, enough said, it’s wonderful to see the progress being made on your gorgeous house.
@erinmaclean50642 күн бұрын
There's this thing. It's called "reclaimed lumber." Someone would love to repurpose that cedar. Also, the sill tilt is not in case the windows leak, its to prevent standing water, which causes rot and leaks. You'll learn the same when you tile floors and showers. Everything must slope towards the drain or you will have perma-puddles. Shower nooks must slope for drainage, bench seats, etc

Fun fact about the windows too!! I've recently started cleaning homes and never knew that they also have little drainage holes in them. Another reason for the slight slant. When cleaning windows you always have to figure out where the water drains to.... sometimes debris like rotten leaves or sticks will get caught, and then clog the pipes. Just like any pipe, itll cause issues over time. Interesting stuff, our world has evolved soooo much over time, with trial and error. Cool hey!!

They'll find something to use them for. 😮 This house is definitely a heck of a lot stronger, staighter & level then it Was! When ordering your interior doors, make sure you account for the additional thickness of the plywood for your door jambs. Your walls will not be a standard thickness but it's no big deal if you catch it now. However, if you buy standard jambs, there will be a gap between your jambs and door casing.

Are you going to have Windows you can hinge open for ventilation because even in the bathroom you will need to vent smells, or even cleaning fumes at times I'm sure you'll have a vent fan but sometimes you just want to let fresh air in. My second question is I know you have lots of Windows looking out at the scenery but in those rooms will you have Windows to the front that you can look to see who just drove up. Security, safety to escape if a fire. Kids like to look out the windows. Watch the show fall. Love your videos!!!
