"Ghana’s parliament has recently approved a contentious bill aimed at limiting LGBTQ rights, drawing condemnation from human rights activists. The legislation proposes penalties for individuals engaging in LGBTQ sexual activities, as well as those advocating for the rights of gay, lesbian, or other non-conventional sexual or gender identities, with potential prison sentences.
Regarded as one of the strictest measures of its kind in Africa, the bill awaits presidential validation before becoming law, though this is unlikely before December's general election. Advocacy groups have denounced the "Human Sexual Rights and Family Values" bill as a significant setback for human rights, urging President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government to reject it."
Hosts: Joe Hanson and Olive Emodi
Guest: Honourable Sam George, Member of Parliament representing Ningo-Prampram, Accra, Ghana
