The first time I went to Pahang was in 1984 after my military training.i was stationed near Raub. At that time It was called the 2nd Malaysian emergency or conflict with the communists. The first conflict with communist terrorists (1948 - 1960) the 2nd one ( 1969 - 1989). Only after the communists surrender, Malaysia moved on into rapid development in the 1990's. Most of the infrastructure you see today from twin towers to KLIA airport, putrajaya and highways were built in the 1990's.

The first malayan emergency (1948-1960) was brutal. The communist almost destroyed malaysian economy, trains were derailed, and schools attacked. More than 100,000 people lost their lives together with 30,000 soldiers. Anyway, we managed to defeat them in the first round. It was a surprised the communist rose again in 1969. Many high ranking military and police officers killed. Beside the bloodiest battles in the state of Kedah and Perak, Pahang had a fair share of battles especially in bentong, maran and raub District. Lots of soldiers killed after stepping on mines. My father was in the army and retired in 1979. Malaysia soldiers also had to fight the invasion of indonesia in 1963, most of the battles with indonesia was in johor but the Indonesians were driven out from Johor and Sarawak, thus ending the malaysian Indonesian confrontation...

@@Akmalo55f You are right. During ww2 ( 8th December 1941 - 16 August 1945) the major cities like Kuala Lumpur and Georgetown, Penang were in rubbles. My mom who was 8 years old then said dead bodies were everywhere on the streets in Georgetown. After ww2, Malaysia had to face Communist insurgency, confrontation with Indonesia. There were so many communist ambushes in Kedah and Perak. Armoured vehicles were destroyed in places like Lenggong. We had a bloody journey from 1941 right up to 1989. The last battle was with the Filipino rebels in 2013 in Sabah..

@zedono1391 After the bombings, 4 and the half years of Japanese atrocities started. More than 100,000 malayan men were sent to build the death railway from Thailand to Burma. Only a few hundred returned. Villagers burned to death by the Japanese Imperial Army, babies cut to pieces, and schools became torture Chambers. Our nightmares can't match the nightmarish lives our parents and grandparents went through. The British left us. The Japanese were surprised when our grandparents fought back. More than 15 anti Japanese units were formed....
