I definitely recommend to use the chudrub on those chickens especially LaVern. And for the chud box id either keep a cover on it or find a way to coat it with oil or coat it so it doesnt rust.

This is something that is you take care of it you can pass it down to your kids and so on. It's way overbuilt but that is never a bad thing.

It’s 3/16” steel. Oklahoma Joe uses larger 1/4” steel and you can watch how easily they rust and rot with heat. This Chud box is a 5 year throw away as designed. Cheers!

@@sideninehomestead Lookimg forward to see how many actual years you get from 3/16” steel. Oklahoma Joe is a thicker 1/4” steel and the firebox might last two to three years. Keep us updated on the 3/16” steel bottom of your new Chud box. Please comment on warpage, rust, and any burn through. Thank you! Cheers!

Dont listen to the haters. Ok joes are 14 guage, not 1/4inch. Making it half the thickness of the chudbox. The bottom is reinforced so you will be fine, brad has been cooking on his for years with no issues. No need to paint, just oil and season and you will be good.

Make sure you oil it up with Pam and do another burn off to season it and prevent rust

@@sideninehomestead that would be different I would just pam spray the entire chud box then fire it up to season it. I have a custom built style chudbox with my own twist to it myself. I love to cook on it!!

Looks amazing! I follow him too. And don’t listen to all these comments about Weber kettle can do the same. It can but you got a bad ass pit that’s gonna last longer. It’s like saying why buy an Escalade when u can buy a Kia.

I'm pretty sure he makes alot of the parts himself and has some parts machined to make it easier and cleaner, check out his channel he shows pretty much everything he can

I wouldn’t start my coals inside the floor of the 1/4 inch steel bottom of the Chud pit. Buy a $1 12” square concrete walking stone from Walmart to light your chimney. Also buy any grate you can to lift the hot charcoal bed off of that 1/4” piece of steel. 1/4” steel is thin and prone to burn through and rust. Cheers!

Is it 1/4 inch steel - web site says 3/16th - does he reinforce the bottom?
@Isovapor
@Isovapor Жыл бұрын
@@hojobbq no clue. If it’s only 3/16” steel, you’ll definitely need a grate to lift the hot coal bed off of that thin steel bottom or it won’t last long. I wouldn’t build a hamster cage out of 3/16” steel.
@Excelgam
@Excelgam Жыл бұрын
I almost laughed out loud seeing this genius say OK Joe is made of 1/4” steel - it’s not. They use 14 gauge metal, which translates to 0.07 inches. If you know the math, which I doubt, that’s less than half of the thickness of 3/16”.
