This Song was recorded after the Grammys. That was why they were able to get so many Artists together. There was a sign that was posted in the studio that said "Check Your Ego at The Door." Their were so many Legends there from many different Genres. In The 1980's Artists would appear with many different Artists or write songs for each other. It was truly a Golden Era of Music in the 70's and 80's.

The song was recorded after the American Music Awards ( not Grammys) which was hosted that evening by Lionel Ritchie. Besides how great this song is and all the performances, the amazing thing to me was that Quincy Jones' production engineer listened to music of all the soloists and decided what lines they were going to sing. The Stevie Wonder / Bruce Springsteen dynamic was absolutely brilliant here. I don't know if it was on accident or on purpose. But between Stevie's melodic exuberance and Bruce's soulful grittiness the duet was one of the best examples of musical dichotomy and stylistic inclusiveness that has ever been recorded. I hope new generations hear it and use it as a blueprint to make more great music including artists of varying styles and genres in their works.

Then was some problems in Africa their people was needing food. And the price of that realy big disc all the money from then up to now is completly for Africa. Was REAL; AMAZING; MARVEL; UNBELIVABLE; but is true. Theres no words enough for describe IT; we only need to open our ears and let the magic happen in our hearts, in our thinks, in our enviroment, in our souls , our bodies... and in all our lifes. In our existence "WE ARE THE WORLD" is a motive for make us feel us proud. Is an album with beautiful idiom for our souls. When Quincy Jones invited all those mega super star musical artists to participate in making this recording for a good cause, he specifically noted in the invitation "check your egos at the door". One superstar who was invited at the time failed to participate was Prince, because of a selfish personal reason. Another superstar who did not participate was Madonna, who would have a conflict with her scheduled concert date at the time of the recording session.

He's selfish because he doesn't want to be on a trashy, overly sappy song? I don't blame him. The main focus should be about helping those in need, not just making a song; the song was just a vehicle. It sounds like Quincy Jones should check his ego.

It really started with the UK and Bob Geldof who brought together some of the biggest singers in Europe to raise money for world hunger. The single was Do They Know It's Christmas. And yes, there is a video of it. You can see by the barebones setting (it looks like someone's basement). But the singers included Bono from U2, Duran Duran, Wham, Phil collins, Bananarama, Boy George, and Sade to name a few. Geldof would later out together Live Aid, a globally televised live concert that included Queen's immortal performance.

I've watched this a hundred times and it gets more special each time. Some things I note, seeing each artists distinctiveness come through is tremendous but more importantly note how no one sings over the other, it's truly a choir, "coming together as one". Great reaction, I would recommend making the actual video an inset (or you an inset) and preserve the aspect ratio; that way you don't cut out much content. Thanks for posting!!

@@timclaus8313 Cyndi Lauper, Steve Perry, MJ, and Huey Lewis were all around 30 here, I'd guess. I doubt Springsteen was over 35 here, either. Not trying to be confrontational, but I'm just a stickler for truth and it seems that though budding 20-something artists seem lacking here, the not-so-old crowd is fairly well represented. The older-leaning gallery might have been by design, though. If you were arranging a fundraiser, would you want young artists (with predominantly young fans) or an older audience who are much more likely to have discretionary money to give? And, if as one of the other comments stated, that this was put together after the Grammy's in 1985, then how many new artists are invited to the Grammy's? Older, hit-producing artists would dominate that event, and thus the after-events. Just a thought.
