Ha. Nice to see you freak out when you saw Steve Perry. 😂 Even in that short piece his voice is amazing. I always liked Cyndi Lauper's part in this. Such high energy. They are all good in this IMO, although Springsteen seems like he's about to break a spring or something. Such a great song and historical event really. I don't when you ever had that many high profile artists performing one song together on camera. Also of different genres of music. Pretty amazing. We'll probably never see that again either.

It is amazing today, that Willie Nelson at age 90 is out touring, and he participated in this amazing event some 38 years ago. On the morning of April 5, 1985 (Good Friday of that year) at 3:50 pm GMT, over 8,000 radio stations simultaneously broadcast the song around the world. This is the greatest day of the 1980's as far as I am concerned.. We have been going down the outhouse shaft ever since. I vote Stevie Wonder for best vocal....he went to the Michigan School for the Blind with my cousin. Harry Belafonte, who just passed away is in this, no solo, but in the choir.

I appreciate and agree with this good-natured mentality. Sadly, the issues in the U.S. that have fully surfaced since the start of the pandemic existed in 1985, the year “We Are The World” was released. The diff is that 38 yrs ago the U.S. was still putting on the facade that it was the greatest country in the world. In 2023 with all the social reckoning that has occurred during the lockdown, the words of the late Maya Angelou from a 1997 Oprah interview resonate more than ever: “When people show you who they are, believe them.” 💯

As a young lady in the mid-eighties, i cant tell you enough how uncool we all thought this was, and made fun of it, not realizing of course that it was a charity and history in the making. I love rewatching it in the eyes of young people. It truly was a wonderful moment in time, once in a lifetime.

I was in junior high when this was first released. It’s more emotional now, isn’t it? This time has passed and will never return. Imagine if the “artists” today tried something like this. They’d need auto-tune and computer generated music, and it’d still all sound the same. As I was watching some millennials react to this, one thing they noticed was just how different everyone sounded to one another, and how that is lost in today’s music.

The "We are the World-1985" documentary( narrated by Jane Fonda ) is a story of caring and sharing. The documentary's ending is an homage to Harry Belefonte. The answer to your question is James Ingram.

Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote the song and Quincy produced the song with so many great singers and it still stands the test of time. A lot of the great singers passed away and are resting in peace. But such a wonderful song. Prince was supposed to be there but he wrote a song and send it instead.

Michael, Lionel, Cyndi, Huey Lewis, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, Tina Turner, Jeffrey Osborne (?), Bruce Springsteen, Willie Nelson, Latoya and Marlon(?), Hall & Oates, Al Jareau, Ray Charles, Kenny Loggins, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Kim Carnes, Paul Simon, Steve Perry, Billy Joel, Bob Dylan, Al Green, The Pointer Sisters, that's all I recognize. For the record, it may have technically been a one hit wonder but nobody but Michael and Quincy could get this many singers together of this caliber to agree to donate their time as 100% of the profits from this song did go to help those in Africa. Yes, we have a lot of people and families these days needing help in America alone, but back then it was a real big deal, what those in Africa was going through.
