Yellow split pea and ham soup and freshly baked rolls. I got a $5 half black forest ham out for dinner for 2 today. Half of it I will be making breakfast for dinner with a couple of eggs each, a can of brown beans and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers. The left over ham I will be making a big pot of pea soup and some pull apart buns.

My Grandpa said he ate cornbread and syrup for breakfast every day for months during the depression. They ate boiled potatoes for lunch, and sometimes didn't even have supper! his salvation was getting drafted in WW2!

I’ve been cooking a lot more meals at home lately. It does make a difference in saving money. Tip: Never cook on an empty stomach. Otherwise, you’ll be tempted to eat out instead of cooking. So eat a snack first. 👍

🌻🌻🌻 That's amazing. I would still be hungry though, because there was little protein in the breakfast and likewise at dinner. Otherwise, very thrifty. Much needed for the young people to learn, because they will need this knowledge.

😎❤ Cheap meal ideas, from my home. * split pea soup, or whole dry peas, from scratch * pasta done a thousand ways * lentiil soup, with any garden vegetables, or anything I have * rice based dishes ^ classic, rice and a fried egg * macaroni & cheese, adding a vegetable ^ homemade mashed potatos and gravy, or meat gravy. * soup, made from scratch with anything I have got. * cream vegetable soup made from scratch, using anything from the garden, or last day for sale bargains. * homemade pancakes, from scratch. * oatmeal surprise. Surprise we are having oatmeal. You can make it nice by sprinkling a few raisins, or chocolate chips on top, or craysins. Cinamon, nuts, honey even. Whatever you like. * one of my favorites is foraging for large dandilion greens, and also plantain greens... my favorite way to prepare them, is sautéed. First add some bavon grease, or olive oil, or lard to the frying pan, then sliced or minced onions, add some garlic, hot pepper flakes are optional. Salt and a touch of black pepper. Add the washed and cut up leaves. Cover and let steam on low, until done. Might add a touch of water, if it looks kind of dry. I love this on rice, over mashed potatos, with toast, or in a warm tortilla. Even with pasta. Delicious every time. I love this a lot.

I didn't know plantain was edible. It blew my mind a few years ago, when I found out that it could be rubbed on mosquito bites to stop the itch! Haven't bothered pulling it out of the lawn since.

I've come to love you, Grandpa and this channel so much in the last two weeks, it's unbelievable! You're lovely, Grandpa is lovely and the food is delicious, cheap and simple. I love some extravagant recipes every now and then, that take time and a lot of ingredients to really get right, but this is the kind of food that I grew up on! And they taste just as good nowadays. So thank you for reminding me of the beauty of simple food and taking me down memory lane.

Hi, I watch your channel all the time and enjoy it so much. I am curious. How do you measure the cost of oregano. A dash here and there, but I have not been able to average herbs. The ginger tea I have yet to make and might make it tomorrow. Iced tea -- ginger! It looks like 7-Up there. I have ground fresh ginger, and like it served hot, but this has to be very good. Thank you. I enjoy so much when you do these average cost-meal in a day videos. Can you do some more?
@GrandmaFeral2 жыл бұрын
I take the cost of the bottle of oregano and estimate about how many dashes I can get out of it and that comes to a few cents. We like the cold ginger tea in the summer and the hot tea in the winter. I especially like to drink hot ginger tea when I have a cold with congestion. What may look like 7-up is when we drink water with a meal. Thank you for watching and have a great day👩🏻
@missannettep67962 жыл бұрын
@@GrandmaFeral Thank you. I guess I cannot figure out dash usage per bottle. I will go along with your 2 cents as well. I just can't see how much and often I will dash herbs and spices, funny. Thanking you and your husband, again.
