I remember discovering the show because I walked in on a couple of my friends watching the episode that introduces Gideon, and a couple minutes after I walked in Gideon closes the second journal and my one friend yells "I KNEW IT!" There were a lot of long waits between some episodes, but the pauses always felt well-placed, and never stretched on for too long (even if it seemed like they did at the time). The pause between seasons was pretty lengthy, but I think the pause between Not What He Seems and Tale of Two Stans felt worse because it separated the single answer everybody had been waiting for from the backstory behind it. But it was still all brilliantly executed, as seen here by their reactions to everything being right in line with the hype everyone felt while the show was still airing. I honestly wonder what they would have said in reaction to the commercials that apparently aired right before Weirdmageddon part 1. I remember seeing part of that commercial on KZbin at the time, and it was absolutely the closest thing to nightmare fuel I think I've ever seen Disney release.

A thing or two i noticed during this rewatch with you; Stan had openly told "dipper" that he had been waiting for him to stand up for himself. Too bad it was mabel in dippers body. Had it been dipper, it wouldve resolved their beef sooner. When bill offed time baby, the look in his eye was "holy fuck I just did that" The Weirdmageddon was the perfect opportunity to give pacifica some brunette hair roots. Indicating that she's a fake blonde afterall. When "Ford" said "the only condition, is that you let my brother and the kids go" JK Simmons actually tried to sound more like Alex Hirsch!

Happy to see you boys appreciating Mabel throughout the show. I feel like she is the character that gets hated on the most. She’s also literally me when I was 12 so, there’s some attachment to her on my end but idk. It’s cool seeing the love for her cause the entire show and every single character is phenomenal. Edit: also sock opera is my favorite episode by far because when I show this show to people who have never seen it, they take bill as a one off villain/a smaller villain than he actually is. Which, was the original intention with bill but he evolved. The Book of Bill drops in like 10 days. Bet your ass I got the version with the extra 16 pages. Honestly, bill cipher is the best antagonist to come out of media. Literally. Trust no one friends. Not even Alex Hirsh.
@troytab60893 ай бұрын
Mabel Pines gets so much hate, and it's quite sad. She gets hate because she's immature, and keeps needing reminders to be less selfish. Which would be fair, if she were an adult. She is not. She is 12. Twelve years old, and yet time and time again, she always puts Dipper before herself. Even if she hesitates, or messes up sometimes, she has thrown away what she wanted to help Dipper just as often as he's done that for her. Remember Time Traveller's Pig? Dipper was so determined to get Wendy, who does not like him, to like him, that he was considering letting Mabel loose a pet she'd grown so attached to. In Sock Opera, Mabel wanted Dipper's help with her play. Dipper really, really didn't want to, even before the laptop's time limit started. And he actually tried to give up some of Mabel's puppets to make a deal with Bill just for a laptop password. Ultimately in the end of that episode, Mabel was the one to actually be selfless. Mabel is a brave and selfless kid, who does so much for her twin. Even if she messes up with childish antics.
@prettyroach2 ай бұрын
there’s 100% a layer of misogyny to the vitriolic hate some people had to her😭 people also forget that Dipper’s ventures were just as immature, it just so happened they were mysteries the audience wants answers to as well. Alex once said a big part of Mabel’s character is reminding him of that fact, and reeling him back to earth/their childhood
@IsaacRedWo0d2 ай бұрын
Mf what are you talking about@@prettyroach
@prettyroach2 ай бұрын
@@IsaacRedWo0d there’s a fiery hatred for mabel in the fandom usually around two things, her giving the rift to who she *thought* was blendin, and generally ‘getting in dippers way’ but Alex Hirsch has clarified that despite what the audience knows, the twins have no reason to believe dipper is some kind of chosen one & that it’s still immature fantasies of importance on his part. That’s what makes his decision not to stay with Ford important and why Mabel was written to remind him that. So in the directors commentaries Hirsch implies that misogyny and ~distaste~ for all things girly are the underlying reasons for the hate
@WisteriaDrake2 ай бұрын
@@prettyroach Personally, my issue with her is the lack of lasting character progression. I like her, I'm just disappointed she didn't really learn her lessons. This thread keeps pointing out her age as for why she never learns her lesson. To retort, I'll point to literally every other character in this show. Gideon is 8, and he learns to change, though only partially. Candy, Grenda, and Pacifica are the same age as Mable, and they're fairly mature. So why is Mable the only one who keeps making the same mistakes? Dipper also makes similar mistakes, but his mistakes tend to be more understandable to a lot of people, especially since he's the serious twin. Mable's mistakes revolve around not wanting to grow up and being boy crazy. Dipper's mistakes revolve around Wendy or the fate of the world, so a lot of them are more serious and have to do with the plot of the show. I think this is a writing issue, and Mabel should have gotten more serious arcs, not just Dipper. There's also the connection to the elder twins to consider. Mabel is honestly closer to Ford than Stan. Stan gives up everything for his family, and doesn't hesitate to do so. And we see him evolve in all ways except his anger towards his brother. Ford, on the other hand, is self-obsessed, only caring about his own desires. Ford does let go of some things from time to time, but he never learns that his ambition causes a lot of the problems in his life. If Stan burned the journals 30 years ago, this entire series wouldn't have happened. Honestly, while Stan's temper tantrum at the end of the show was a terrible thing, it's justified. He directly stated that he would be happy if Ford would only thank him for the 30 years he spent working to save him from the warp, but Ford wasn't capable of doing that. Come to think of it, that arc never really gets solved, they just mutually decide that the world and the kids are more important than that.

In all fairness, they didn't tell Mabel about the super important potentially world ending device. Dipper is always finding stuff (the shrink crystal didn't along to him; it was just in the woods) and Blendin is their ally! Someone both she and Dipper saved. If Blendin needed something they found, why wouldn't she help out? Dipper thought he was handing one of Mabel's puppets over to Bill for his own interests and he knew Bill was evil.

bruh, I've been reading GF fanfictions for 4 weeks straight now. Someone even wrote a 600k words continuation of the show. My favorite trope for gravity falls fanfictions are the past Stanford and Stanley reconciliations stories, though. Some of them are so wholesome and fullfilling that it filled the whole this show had left :)

1:52:27 Ok…Dipper can ROCK a damn suit and I’m here for it. ✨ 2:02:36 Giffany ain’t dead. She is currently residing in the game “Fight Fighters” and is going steady with Rumble McSkirmish.(Soos himself confirmed this in Journal 3)🕹️ 2:03:56 Tales from the Hood was better but Tales from the Hood 2 had Keith David as Satan👹 2:04:04 That actually looks more like a corrupted Palantír than the eye of Sauron👁️ 2:07:48 We are all made of bacon bits ✨✨🥓🥓 2:10:08 Tongue in cheek joke😋 2:11:19 Tongue in cheek joke 2 Electric boogaloo⚡️ 2:11:41 Depending on the age of our P.O.V this may be kidnapping a minor⚖️ 2:25:52 UNACCEPTABLE!!🍋 2:28:26 Soos owns a triangle shaped brief case for that slice of pizza; furthermore he can change its toppings by just thinking about which ones he wants; it is only infinite when he bites into it, if someone else takes a bite the bite shall stay🍕 2:28:53 Stan may not have kids but he is someone’s dad❤️ 2:29:20 Anyone got a light? 🔥 2:29:45 Originally “The Love God” had a chain that represented ALL types of love(⚧️) BUT Disney didn’t like that so it got changed to what we see in the show, so I’m like 40% sure Mabel’s sweater is a work around 🌈 2:31:29 Mabel and Stan share MANY similarities, maybe Dipper shares some with someone else 😉 2:37:47 DIPIFICA!!! Gravity Falls is one of the top three biggest inspirations to me. It was such an amazing show, the animation was incredible, the story was one of a kind, the plot was just as confusing as I like it. All of this inspired me to begin working on my own animated series. I’m 4 months in, and my drawing skills have improved dramatically. It won’t be long until I can finally start storyboarding.

This show is a masterpiece. Sadly enough, it's more than unlikely we get any more Gravity Falls. Alex Hirsch had to fight for every episode and joke. Someone collected all the emails with the things he should change, and if I remember correctly as a book they would be around 800 pages. I'm very grateful he fought so hard for his show. With the state Disney is in, there's no way there will be more of something like this. Fun fact: Dipper and Mabel are based on him and his twin sister. I bet she's awesome. 🙂

One of the many things I loved about this show, is it is one of the rare shows that actually has a believable romance story. Dipper and Wendy have a very interesting concept that I thinkw as handled very well. And even Mabel's "love life" was entertaining.
@OmegaDemonCloak01093 ай бұрын
The show was based on Alex Hirsch childhood of exploring the woods with his sister Ariel, Dipper and Mabel are based on them. Justin Rolland who created Rick and Morty also made some references to Gravity Falls in one of the citadel of Rick episodes you actually see a Morty wearing Dipper’s hat.

Ah hell... every time a great series ends it feels like a little piece of me dies because of the finality. Like, something warm and wonderful grows as you take in the story, but the ending takes something back and it's sore there for a long time. And it's not like you can just pick up another story because if it was a truly good one there's nothing else quite like it, and those sorts of special things don't come along very often.
