Fred and Velma as step siblings could be really wholesome. Imagine little Fred and Velma building traps together based on some books they've read, Velma giving him his orange ascot so he has something orange after he says he likes her orange sweater, the two of them watching old detective mystery shows together and trying to solve the plot before each other - it could have been peak friendship. I love the mental image of them giving each other clues on what they got the other one for their birthday and making a mystery for the other to solve.

After all, dogs will bark and alert you if someone else is creeping around a haunted building or whatever. But since Scooby belongs to Shaggy, that means he has to go with her on investigations, even though he's scared. It's such a better, less caustic version of things than the show.
