Hope it works for you, looks good. The truest statement you made was that van prices are outrages … I can’t believe the prices people pay for big vans then put a 200k wagon in front of it. Makes a Oz tent look pretty good to me. 😀😀😀
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Haha yeah I hear ya. Honestly if weren't planning to live in it full time for a lengthy period we wouldn't be buying a full size van. I'm quite comfortable sleeping in a swag for weeks at a time (which i will be doing again in the next couple of months).

So stoked for you guys that youve found the van that meets you needs. Or most of them. Its such a tough market with so many options. You've done a lot of the research for us. But we are still in the second hand market due to the absolutely ludicrous costs of vans atm. But hey, like you said no ones getting free vans. Love you honesty and though processes in these videos. So practical and real world for the average consumer. Keep up the good work and cant wait to see what you reckon of the Willows, cause at a recent van show i really liked them too. And they were towards the bottom end of the cost spectrum. Brodie os such a cutie. Thanks for sharing him with us.

You’re right, caravan prices new or 2nd hand are up there but you also answered why. You wanted a caravan to suit your purpose and so does everyone else. It’s a sellers market. Congrats on your new van! When listening to your reasoning on choosing a van just want to say that almost all caravans have issues over time, sometimes from new. At least manufacturers like Jayco back up any warranty repairs. That is my experience having owned multiple Jayco vans. The one thing I know is that Jayco vans (double axle) tow well. A friend of mine bought one of the expensive boutique caravans (single axle) 18f and battled to tow it even with a LC200. Some of these have high tow ball weights. In any event the other point I want to make is that real 'off road' caravans are way shorter than 18f so the bigger you go the less you can use it for that purpose. I would focus on a well built caravan with good suspension and clearance that can deal with rough road surfaces. If you have that then good to go

Congrats! For a dual axle caravan I think you would be better off going load sharing suspension with shocks, which is alot better than independent coil/airbag suspension in my opinion. A lot cheaper too which is a bonus. For true off-road a single axle with independent probably the go.
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate! Yeah calling a 20ft dual axle van an offroad model is a bit of a stretch really. But as long as its relatively solid enough to endure corrugations and has enough ground clearance to get us into some decent campsites, then we'll be wrapped.

Carcker vid Cam n Tiff, the banter between you both is bloody hilarious. Emu Point Caravan Park in Albany is a winner with kiddies, I went there 25 odd years ago as a teenager and then went back with my own wife and kids last year and the amount of money spent on the whole grounds has bought it up to an amazing level of hospitality, nice new clean toilets & showers, great outdoor bbq kitchen areas and an amazing kiddie zone with jumping pillows and mini golf. Cam now is the time to convince Tiff that it is time for a new Ford F350....

Just watched your video and thought, I have just removed our canister toilet and installed a compost, had it in for a month now and still haven’t had to empty it. No smell and no dump point every 3-4 days. Just a thought as we do mostly free camping etc and looking forward to no dump points once we hit the road again.

Sounds good. It's something ill look into in the future, as the toilet canister generally fills up before we run out of water offgrid. For now we'll take a second canister.
@Grahamrjohnson2 жыл бұрын
Now you have your van in hand, I rewatched your video and funny part is your thought progression led you exactly where we went. We love our Willow Van....... What you are going to find when your get the solar fitted is the fantastic build quality of the Willow cabinetry and the van as a whole. The reason it is so light is the amazing clip lock system that holds all the cupboards together and brace the entire van structure, AFAIK they are the only ones building like this...... I am fitting our huge solar/lithium system and the fact that Willow run all the cables inside the cupboards makes fitting Inverter systems very easy to fit compared to other vans.... You will see when your installer starts fitting your gear inside. BTW you are going to find the ball weight on your Willow van can be quite a bit less that the 10% that is generally stated. Shoot for 7% and you will gain back some GVM..... and still be safe. Fit a DEXTER while you are fiddling with it. Once again congrats, You will love it.... We will see you on the road over the next year or so...
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Funny you say that, have been pulling apart some cabinetry to fit a few things. And I was shocked how light the material is, and how well its all secured to the body! Went with the ALKO ESC from factory. Never had ESC before so its all new to me.
@Grahamrjohnson2 жыл бұрын
@@WildTouring Yep its really is a class build. That plywood is amazingly light... Its called Falcutta ply....Most other vans use this ply but They just staple it together. Willow are on their own with the tab and screw cupboards.... I sacrificed one of the slide out draws under the the seats and fitted 600A/H of lithium instead. If you pull the cushion off the seat under the window. You will find a big void over the top of the Wheel well where I fitted our inverter. There is just a ply cover over it ATM. I hinged it and the 240V charger and Inverter fitted straight in. I got our Dexter from the USA at about half the price of here. I will send some photos to your email if you are keen. The wooden covers that run along the floor beside the bed are essentially wooden conduit. You can carefully lever the top off and run cables to under the bed. The ball weight builds up quickly if you start putting batteries and chargers under the bed. You need to try and fit the weight over the axle....7% ball weight is plenty in these vans with an ESC fitted...

Thanks Cam & Tiff, I've been eagerly awaiting your decision. Congratulations, seems like Willow is a good option. I remember seeing the 'Trip In A Van' video where they said they were super happy with the Willow but the main reason they changed to a SunSeeker was because Willow wouldn't come to the party when it came to payloads. I think from memory TIAV wanted about 1000kg payload but Willow wouldn't offer anywhere near that. So looks like Willow have done some reconsidering now that they are offering you guys 950kg. I considered Willow myself but they didn't do a 15ft van. I've been following your travels for a while and like you guys we started in a tent, then camper trailer, then Hybrid caravan and now we are waiting for our $90k 15ft Crusader CRV Hurricane, which we were supposed to have waited 6 months for but now after delays and more delays looks like we will get it after a long 12 month wait, hopefully June this year. It was great to see all of your thought processes in this video and the previous video because my wife and I had a similar experiences. I'm looking forward to seeing a van tour and reviews. P.S. Looks to me like Brody will be ready for his first camping trip as soon as you get they van.

You both are probably my fav' couple on YT. No nonsense reviews and totally down to earth without any agendas. Shame you couldn't get a Zone van numbers to work. We really love ours, but' it's only us 2 in an 18.6 Base. Tiff, as much as you will love the island bed, and lounge, you will want to be outside for sure. We have only sat inside less than 3 times in the 11 months we have had ours. Being outside is much better. You just need a wall to cut the afternoon sun out..... #vanlifeisthebest

Cheers Kevin. We had originally planned to bring Percy, but we're reconsidering that now for a few reasons. We'll be spending a lot of time in National Parks that won't allow doggos, and I'm not too keen on leaving him in the caravan for extended periods. We're pretty lucky to both have parents in WA on acreage, and we're planning to have family stay in our house while we're away (rather do this than rent it out - if we can afford it!). So he will probably end up staying with family at one of those options!
@anthonymcneil87782 жыл бұрын
That’s a great option. I’ve looked at the Willow a few times at camping shows. The blokes that own the company were at Jurgens prior to starting Willow (probably why Trip in a Van went from a Jurgens to a Willow) and I owned a small Jurgens and the insulation was fantastic. If the Willow has similar insulation, and I think it’s the same, then you’ll have a great van. Well done.

Gorgeous baby. We toured the Willow factory a few mths ago. It was great to see the build process. They were moving to larger premises to increase the number of vans they could have on the production line at the same time. I think upping to 11. Good thing you are doing you’re own thing with solar. They had had problems with what their supplier said the system could run vs what it could run. At the time they didn’t know what replacement product. We are waiting for an estimate to renovate our nearly new caravan. Seemed to be cheaper than starting again. And yes pls film the solar install.
@WildTouring2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate, yeah we noticed with a few van manufacturers that they favour some of the cheaper 12v gear. I guess to keep final price down. Will definitely film and explain our solar/lithium build.

Obviously there is a whole lot more to a van than a frame and styrofoam walls. Im building my own hybrid atm. Im in the industry so i get trade price on everything, and its still going to cost me over $40k... For a 14ft single axle (with all the bells and whistles though) I think the van you guys selected is actually a really good price for what you are getting. Hopefully it exceeds your expectations.

Nice video and congratulations! You don’t need to pay anymore than $150 for a diesel heater. I put mine in our hybrid myself and we use it all the time. Go for the ones with the wireless remote that has the LCD display on the remote. Feel free to reach out if you want to see my install, I can send videos or photos or if you are passing through busso pop in for a look. Also when installing make sure you have a master switch out of the way (so it can’t accidentally be switched off while hot or it will melt the Circuit board) but so that it’s not on all the time when not using it or the LCD panels flog out and go dull.

Cheers mate, appreciate the advice and the kind offer. I fit one to our camper trailer years ago, but i remember that some controllers were better than others. So ill have to do some reading up on it again.

Yep absolutely. That’s why if you get the remote with the display you will get the better (red) controller.

Good to see you got a new van. Happy travels. Count your blessings you could not get air bags. Have travelled off road alot around Oz with our van. Good old coils dont fail, bags leak, puncture and give you one more thing to argue about.

Hi Cam & Tiff thanks for the Video, saw it yesterday and went off and searched Willow caravans, liked what I saw So today we went to the caravan and camping show here in Sydney and had a look... long story short we put a deposit on a Willow Boab 5224 :) so off around Australia as Grey Nomads... thanks again

Thank you for this information. It is a mine field of information and this is very helpful. My wish list is very similar to yours less accommodating children. I do not have your travel experience so your insights are extremely valuable to me. Cheers
