Our tip is watch You Tube videos like this one so you get a lot of Tips and ideas as well as see some places you might like to visit. Before we left, some might say we finished You Tube😂. Love your tips, all things we do so can vouch for them. Good Vid, and we will take your advice on how to make better YT as well. PS We love wiki camps but they need to change water icons to show ones good for caravans. Love the circle the town to get in line for that one RV stop. We have been to plenty of similar so called RV friendly towns, certainly when shopping

Thanks for sharing, Spot on with those tips; We do 3 - 6 month trips away and plug into a park maybe twice. The last trip was 3 months around victoria coast, initially the plan was a lot more complex but the weather and mozzies changed all that, so my 4 weeks of planning was out the window and we just planned about 2 or 3 days ahead according to the weather; cooler head inland, hot, head for the coast. Sometimes we would only move a short distance between camps, the shortest was 18 km. Use one tank of diesel in 4 weeks just drifting around, what a great time. You're right about water in parts of SA the part to carry more of be careful is the eyre peninsula, the farmers have been taking more than their share and the water table has dropped, they've piped the water over from Adelaide but it doesnt go far past Pt Lincoln and coffin bay. We don't have a camera, might look into that but, we haven't really needed one my wife guides me into the level part no hassels no arguments ; even reverse parking into a curbside park in the main street, she did a good job ( even got a head nod and a thumbs up from a local). Stay safe, enjoy our travels

We have a 2019 F350 and tow a Legend Groundbreaker caravan. Have found your information very interesting and enjoyable. We previously had a 2006 F250 and had similar troubles with the 4WD. We got bogged in a river bed and had no way out, because the 4WD didn’t work. Very scary. Had to get a friend to drive from Karratha to Panniwonica to pull us out in their Nissan Patrol. Hope all goes great from now on..

Love watching you guys! We also started our travelling lifestyle when we were younger with swags, tents (even soggy ones without waterproofing on those miserable rainy nights...you know the cheap ones 😢),campers (soft & hard floor) etc & now to our 1st van 6yrs ago which we love. Definitely don't need 500k to start travelling this truly amazing backyard we live in. Totally agree with all your comments as well. Good music (with bad singing)🤣, podcasts & light banter along the way we find helps. Oh & our 2 Staffy's causing mayhem in back of Patrol makes for interesting times, which we're sure you can relate. Laughter is always a good remedy to make long travel days more enjoyable coz life's too damn short! Safe travels & who knows, may see you some day on those dirt tracks that we love so much. Cheers from WA!

I think the number 1 is taking regular breaks to stretch, drink and eat outside of the car. Travel is more enjoyable if you stop every couple of hours. Its also a good time to check the car, wash windscreen, crank up the travel buddy for a roast or meat pie!

Its simple. If 2 ppl Campervan instead of caravan Yak on the roof in place of a tinny Shovel instead of a toilet casette 2 spare tires Max trax Cell fi go mobile phone range extender instead of star link. Spare engine belts and idelers Spare boost hoses A proper trolly jack All cooking can be done on a jetboil sumo. They also have the jetboil frypan No set up or pack in a van Very easy to move a van if weather or wind is no good A good tool kit A 60 amp dcdc charger so if theirs no sun u can charge up all batts with ease. Its not difficult

Hi Bianca & Grant - tops on the 10 points - clear and honest notes for those considering the long trip In previous communications with you the Wikicamps & free camps we are most interested in - water issue can be a bit annoying from Wikicamps though 😮- the tap key will be a get from Bunnings 👍 for our travels All the best again - stay safe Raymond

Great advice! Number 1 is always my advice too. Buy a tank of fuel before lots of accessories, get out and give it a go. The kind of travel you enjoy might be different to what you daydreamed about at work - it was for me anyway. :-) Don’t be afraid to rent before you buy either, there are lots of websites with private vehicles for rent so you can try for a few weeks for less than the buy and sell cost of the wrong setup.

Great tips guys. With No 10, the reversing camera, we’d always recommend one with a microphone, makes parking in tight spots so much simpler as the spotter doesn’t have to shout or wave arms around frantically 🤣. Still think the recommendation to get a Kelly Kettle should be on your list 😁. Safe travels.

Have to agree, dual rear camera is king, we’ve had none and then one and now with two it’s much better. We use Camps Australia and it never lets us down for water etc, as you say WikiCamps can be a bit unreliable as we have found. Long range tanks help. Second cassette is good but we now have a composting toilet and that’s pretty handy. We try and free camp or cheap camp, it really helps and yes if you have a continuous income, don’t burn it all on fuel and end up having month at the end of the money. Agreed, plans are a bit meh but research helps you make better decisions on the fly. Number 5 is sooooooooo pertinent. Number 4, that’s why we men get married, Washing Ironing Feeding Excetera. 😉 The weight thing is so so important, we’re upping the ATM and going for a truck. You just can’t do it legally and easily even with an LC200 unless you’re prepared to spend mega bucks to make the Cruiser almost adequate and still travel light and a little bit rougher (resale on tricked up Cruisers can be a bit iffy but just like the Cruisers, big trucks hold value better the less they are modded). Shakedowns are crucial, our last van taught us that. Warning, this life is addictive.

Here is a tricky question…. To register vehicles and vans you need a permanent address, how do you guys get around that living in the van full time?

If the GVM exceeds 4500kg you need a truck license. If you’re driving a vehicle over 4.5t I would recommend you get an insurance broker to find insurance as their underwriting appetite and price changes.

Tap handles are removed because people steel water. Buying a tap key only makes this problem worse with businesses removing access. Ask permission. Pay for your water dont be that person that steels it. Most information centres will give you the tap handle for a $2 donation.
@Livin_Like_Kings_ Жыл бұрын
Where not talking about stealing water from remote town and not paying for it, we could have been clearer in the video sorry. If the town only has a paid meter for water we pay for it. We’re talking about the places that you can fill up at but may require a tap key. We’ve also experienced dump points that need a tap key to be able to flush. As town youths have vandalised or just turned the taps on for fun.
@susanberry3760 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you Rhys at not stage should anyone use these tap handles. It came across that you use these key handles to access water when you want, you might need to clarify that.
