I only learned this recently myself, but many beneficial insects utilize leaf cover in the fall and winter for habitat, so you might want to leave areas covered instead of raking them all up - depending on what your interests are. The insect population is dropping precipitously. Love the house!

Nice! Looking forward to a house tour (interior). Creating a living wall was a good idea, maybe replace wood patio deck with paver. The house looks like a mid-century when rooms were more spacious than today's homes.

Congrats boys! I remember the great feeling when I bought my first house. Mine was recently renovated so I didn't have much work to do except paint the interior because the past owner liked this peach pink color, which I hated lol. So I painted it all off-white and I was happy.

Way to go guys in more ways than one. This was a smart move, not only getting a good investment but also getting out of the very dense urban city with the pandemic on the rise again, and if they quarantine again you can stay at home remodel, decorate and enjoy yourselves this time. It's a real plus for Parker as well now she doesn't have to rely on trips to the park to enjoy the outdoors, just open the back door anytime she wants to go out for a romp and enjoy the outdoors in her own yard. Come spring you'll have more gardening and landscaping to do. This is a win win move all the way around congratulations.

Oh, for your back's sake, get some tube extensions or a taller vacuum! It will never be okay with your back, and will deter you from using it! Also a beater bar for carpets is much easier than pushing a brushed floor tool! (My back aches too from vacuuming. Learned lessons.) What are the stepping stones between the two front yard trees? Kinda looks like you have some areas of negative slope into the foundation. May need to add some soil when you landscape to slope it away for better drainage. Park has a backyard friend? Cool! Glad they get along and don't just bark! Why not rent a Sawz-All or chainsaw to slice and dice the shed? Or do you like whacking it like it's COVID and having strained muscles? Glad your finding joy in DIY and ownership! Be well and don't overdo!

Congrats on becoming homeowners. A couple of tips. One, do not forget to file for your homestead exemption for property taxes if they have them in the state and county where you purchased. This typically will need to be done before December 31st, but can vary. Second, when dealing with contractors, keep in mind the date they quoted and add two to three weeks if you are lucky. I have remodeled three homes and used contractors for work on each one. It always took longer than quoted. So, pack some patience when dealing with them.

What are the newly planted trees in the back yard? If they are Arborvitae or green giants they grow very fast and they require more spacing than that. Just worried you might get die off or dead spot in between, I would say you could remove 1/3 of them.
