You may have noticed that when you lifted the rock with the loader, your arse-end lifted some. I recommend that you get an adapter and fill your rear wheels with water (or some other type of liquid ballast). When you are carrying heavy loads, 4x4 will also help you maintain control of the load on uneven surfaces. When you remove your backhoe, ballast is even more important. There are many videos on KZbin regarding ballast. If I didn’t make the point clear, ballast! Change out your hydraulic filters on schedule. There is also a hydraulic screen filter that should be checked when you service your hydraulic system. If that screen gets clogged, you will lose power in your driveline, bucket and backhoe. If you keep up your maintenance, that tractor will last for a long time. The R series tractors are the top of the line for John Deere. For reference, I worked at the local dealership for a time setting up tractors for customers. Cheers

@matthewpeterson3329 4 ай бұрын
I came to mention ballast. Very helpful. If you find that you are getting more punctures than normal, whether from sharp rocks or grease wood stems, you can spend a little extra and get them foam filled. This will add about as much ballast as water, and you will never have to worry about flat tires again.
@dougkrultz2149

I will 3rd Ballast. if you don't want Ballast all the time also check into a Ballast box. they attach to the 3 point, and can be made fairly cheaply probably with items around the farm. the land will provide.

Bottom line was that rock was on the top end of the loader capacity, and was hung way out in front. He shouldn't need extra ballast with that backhoe attached.

Nice John Deere commercial - LOL from my experience if you get familiar with the workings of the tractor, you won't need to change the hydro lines for the claw button, you'll get used to it. Also, when swapping implements be sure to keep the hydro couplers clean, I always cover them when not in use to minimize debris from entering the system. Have fun with it!

I love the Series, maybe you can plant a bunch of trees for shade and fruit, the well seems to have enough flow for a few of those. Maybe even a swimming pond surrounded by trees if there is enough flow within the well to keep the water flowing and make a little creek down the driveway to divert all the water in de storms. If they can make a forest in the Sahara you sure can do that at you're own little Oasis, i bet it would make the wife also happy with the wildlife that it will attract.

first three jobs to do to make sure that you have all the skills to to use it properly 1. put the forks on it and run around and pick up all the old pallets and pile to be cut up for fire wood. 2. use your bucket to find all the bigger rocks that will hurt your trucks. 3. clean up the trail to your pump and build a small blockhouse around your controls before the sun and wind destroy them.

You may want to get a long, heavy steel pipe and weld/screwed in place, some heavy chain and chain link for dragging the runway after you grade it with the blades. And do it after a good rain, too!. It will smooth out the blade marks/divots and help with keeping the runway in tip-top shape. Maybe a 12-foot, by 6-inch pipe with chains and chain link to keep it flat to the ground and provide the screening needed. Hell, just attach it to the blade you got and do it all at once! Just leave it at the end of a runway and do it twice a year?

Hello! New viewer here, hubbie is a pilot and your recent property purchase caught our attention. Very fun viewing. Will keep viewing all the episodes to see the progress. Just a quick important note regarding feeding your resident kitty all canned tuna. Please know that he can get mercury poisoning for eating too much of it. My sister almost killed her kitty giving it too much canned tuna and she didn't know until the vet told her what caused the sickness. Also, you can get doggie booties for Pearl that should help protect her feet with the thorns. Hard work you are doing, but it will be worth it in the long run. Hang in there!

I'm so glad your wife insisted on buying the tractor. It would have been short sided and selfish of you to buy silly things like water, AC, heat or lights. I can see great things ahead for you as your desert air base takes form and larger aircraft stop by for a visit. You might consider getting liquor license. Remember no smoking withing 24 hours of and no drinking within 100 feet of the aircraft. I didn't see a fire truck on the tour video, but it's probably their somewhere. Good luck.

Good choice on the JD tractor. But I would get a better battery set up and more solar panels. Then make a big burn pile and take car of all the crap all over. Maybe collect all the metal and take it to the recycler and make some $$. Maybe see if you can get the CAT grader fixed and make a better road to your water. Also rip out all the Cactus around the house. Loved your shelter series at old house. The new place has a ton of potential. If you set it up right with a drip system to could really green up the area around your house. Plant some trees for shade and to use as wind bocks. But water is your biggest need to survive out in the dessert. Thank for the content. Keep up the good work and I’ll keep watching.

Your 50 horse tractor will run 25,000 watts generator. I live in S.E.Texas where we have a lot of hurricanes , we ran ours for three weeks, at about $100 a day. Ours is a Winco it has worked without one problem since 2005, you might consider one for the major appliances, where you can have A/C, stove, water heater, things like that. Good luck on restoring the airport. I’ve been a pilot almost 40 years now.

Super smart move on the land plane. I am trying to get my city to buy one as well. I am going out to service the city tractor and find out if the tire needs to be replace, patched or something. Once the tractor is up and running again I am going to beg the city to let me buy a land plane. It will be so much better than that stupid rear blade that we have. We also have a front blade which is super when we push brush piles together to burn. Land planes for those who do not understand undercut what ever you are trying to smooth out. So if you have a gravel road that is getting grass or weed growing on it a land plane is your friend. A blade will pull the material from one side to the other which is fine if that what you need. Most times it is not, land planes will undercut everything and bring that big material back up to the surface and make it look smooth again. Our city is all gravel, well limestone roads and we have a number of them that now only have 2 tracks. So a land plane will undercut all of them weeds and they will dry out and blow away in time. As long as we keep up the maintained several times a year our roads will look fresh and new again. We have some sort of a drag that I plan on testing out to see how well it does. One of the roads next to my land/house is well over grown and the road is nearly on the ditch so once it gets a land plane it will be back to normal and have less grass to mow for the city.

Use a old plasric trash can to cover your digger seat keep the sun off it and you use it also for collecting something to go back to the ranch or garage.

Consider purchasing a portable generator to attach to the tractor PTO if you need electrical power while working at your outbuildings and in the event you need additional electrical power at the house.

yep, “Northern” sells quite a collection of PTO generators, for emergencies.. makes sense, why maintain another engine..

Yeah herb that switch is a big ON OFF switch. See the big 1 and O? O is not on but off. LOL. I imagine it’s just a spare switch that you could use for whatever. I’ve always loved John Deere tractors. Sounds like you got a great deal.

You need to get that grader running. It will do a much better job at grading your runways.

You say You're not a John Deere fanboi yet I notice the new John Deere tee shirt, and hat with the tag still on it. Even bought the JD grease. I'll have to pay more attention because I bet there's other JD merch laying around

might be decent battery cables on the grader you could use for your battery system

My collection of mid 80’s John Deere 318’s is jealous, they are a wee bit underpowered, but at least their hydrostatic drive 👍

Great job with the batteries, never thought of using jumper cables, but yeah that would totally work. Keep your tractor sexy with griots ceramic 3 in 1. Not commercializing the stuff, it is absolutely a perfect coating for keeping all the paint plastic and rubbers in brand new condition. Oh and its john deere green! I used the ceramic coating on our john deere and it still looks brand new, while the neighbors did not and all the stuff is faded and cracking. It really helps protect against water degredation, im guessing acid rain, and UV protection. You have weird subscribers, but really its worth going over your equipment, and even planes, i would swear on it indefinetly perserving if used every 1-1.5 years, thats how persistient the stuff is... for anything like cars, paint, tractors, atvs, stuff like that, AND every rain the dirt and bugs and bird poop just cleans right off. Its a huge time saver, and it prolongs the life of anything you own.

Get a PTO generator, always good to have a backup power source to charge.

I thought about a PTO generator but I think the power is dirty out of those and may not be able to feed my inverter to charge the batteries or run household electronics.

@@HerbOMatic In off-grid I would always use an external charger and not let the inverter be the charger. Check out the eg4 chargeverter. 120/240 input. Letting the charger be inverter has risk of killing inverter with bad power. You dont have to buy a big gennie to meet loads and charge.

On your hydraulic hoses either color code them or make your ends male and female on the tractor and same on the attachment corresponding to which way they work. My power beyond (W.R. Long brand) came with a male and female quick connect.
