I’m honestly not shocked there closer you’ve gotten to getting the house done the more I’ve subsided what would be next. This sounds like a win win win for everyone involved especially Joel and your grandparents. Congratulations to you all I can’t wait to see the new house. I hope y’all will keep the old house for a vacation place for the whole family maybe everyone could spend the holidays up there. Or maybe you could make it am air B&B for your KZbin family. Whatever you do congratulations

I think yall have it backwards. Go back and watch your faces, hugs, laughter, and pure joy of love of family showing on those faces. YOUR NEW home should be your home. Mountain home should be your getaway home. Besides time will fly, and Leo will be starting school. He needs playmates and family close by. It's called evolving and change is good for what's best the family.

To preface: I am a tree hugger - and all my life have been a proponent of enjoying natural woods, so all my comments will be along that vein. In your "new house" - you have one of the most beautiful kitchens I have ever seen. Wood and natural wood grains are so special - I pray that you will hold on to them. The built-in bookcases - the natural woods everywhere - you truly have a treasure there. Too many people rip them out or paint them over - and later wonder whatever possessed them to destroy such beauty. I know my opinion is of no matter - but I truly thank you for letting us see it as it is now. All the best to you (no matter what you decide - it'll be right for you).

I lived in Oregon, where my friend still lives in a house built by her grandparents. I suggested to her to paint the wood work and I am so glad she did not listen to me. Don't rip up anything. I don't like the countertops so much, but otherwise I love the house and you have made the right decision. Just flow with it. Yes, the squares in the ceiling could feel stifling, but give it time. Breathe. You went through so much with your mom passing away. With a new child and Leo in his terrible twos, take a break. For you, Allie, you're already not in your home environment from the East Coast. I think you made an excellent decision.

I personally think, in the long run, the new house will be so much better for the mental, physical, and financial health of your whole family. I know you love your mountain house, but it belongs to a different era of your life. Friends and family, having your own community is SO important. Especially these days. And having a safe space to foster those relationships is the most important thing in this life. You have an amazing opportunity to grow, to stretch, and feel how to make this new house your own as you live in it. I hope you seize that opportunity. I'm sure all of us will keep watching and be happy to go along on the ride.

My humble opinion: If the new house is basically fit to move in, the cosmetic stuff can wait until after you finish the house, and possibly the casita and garage projects at the mountain home. That way, for the new house, focus is on making it comfy and functional to live in for the present and postpartum months ahead. And then, after you go back to the finished home on the mountain, you can make renovation messes at the new house. Also, the oak in the new house is beautiful. It could use a new color of wood stain, but the warm golden oak is not hideous and it can keep while you finish up existing projects and just enjoy family life and more visits with friends.

Oak is my very favorite wood and I would love to have that kitchen. Don't get rid of all the oak or paint it out. That was a beautiful custom made kitchen and very expensive one. I know oak is not the wood a lot of people want today, but it is a beautiful wood to use. The old appliances will last longer than the new electronic ones do and are easily repaired at a lower price. This is a nice addition to your channel for us to follow and it will be a good gathering place for all of you. Maybe Joel would be able to move in as a caretaker and have some one on site to watch over the property. He seems responsible enough to do that. Keep working on the new place and finishing that out. We all are looking forward to seeing what happens at both places now.

I think Allie, especially, needs this, a comfortable, easy home to relax in, have family over, and have the new baby in, go shopping, get to the doctor, have coffee with a friend, etc. The comfort and convenience takes some of the stress out of just living. Maybe your mountain home can eventually become your summer home, your retreat place. Whatever makes you all happy is what's most important! Loved this video.

Congrats on the 2nd house. I'm a multiple property owner myself. Best decision to make for your family. Love the all the wood throughout the house. Actually the natural look in kitchen cabinets and coffered ceiling is the new trend for 2024. Maybe just restore the wood with newer stain color and protection. The kitchen is fine just needs updated appliances and hardware on the cabinets. I think you should start a family tradition of Sunday brunch at least once a month. Then when your kids are grown with their own family you guys will be sitting at the end of table like Trent's grandparents asking for a strong drink.

These are just the thoughts of an old lady, but here they are. As long as I’ve watched you, especially after Leo was born, I’ve been concerned about any of you getting seriously ill or injured during the winter and emergency vehicles not being able to get to you. It seems to me, with the new baby coming soon, that it makes more sense to use this as your primary home. It looks like a lovely home. As long as it’s safe and clean, the color of the wood or the walls is not important. I’m not saying abandon your place. Keep working on it but use the new place as soon as the baby is born.

Also, the fact that you can be closer to your families is priceless. The older your children become the more time you’ll want to spend in your city home.

Please don't change the oak, I grew up in the land of Frank Loyd Wright and his homes are all over the Chicagoland area and people over the years would come into those mission/craftsman homes and "update" them and rip the soul out of them. Please, as a 50+ year old I really do appreciate a home that has its character left untouched or if added to done so with the same architecture design in mind.

Yes! Thank goodness you've taken on something besides "construction content" 24/7! No offense, but I found you guys through your van life, then just your lifestyle, but the last couple years you've morphed into mostly construction content at the bare bones level (like foundations, plumbing and framing stuff, not interior finishes even), and I've drifted away. I know lots of people love that, but as a whole channel, it just isn't my thing! Love your family, and this new house might be more varied content back to your "beginnings"! Congrats, and looking forward to some lifestyle shifts!

🎉Congrats on the new house! 💕 For Allie's sake I think you need to get in the new house ASAP. Make it your MAIN, and the mountain home your summer cabin. Rent it out to skiers in the winter. PPD is no joke. She needs all the support she can get, especially after losing her mom. 💝 Family is so important for your whole family. 🏘 And I agree with others, once your kids are driving, you're not going to want them to have to drive on that in the winter. PS... Now that I see the house, it's beautiful. That's not a fixer upper! (I get that you have to replace some beams but the interior / exterior is gorgeous!! Not the hole that I was expecting when you said it needs a lot of work!). And I love the oak!!

So far even though you've had many projects going you have been together through it all. If you finish the back it will be separated from the construction on the front. I can see the newness of being in town will be exciting. Easier access to people and places. It'll all work out either way. Have fun. How many of us loyal friends who have watched you build this beautiful home in the mountains would love to pay to vacation for a few days in Trent & Allie’s place? Thus I feel this new project is also set up for success. And that might simply mean a lot of views as success. Regardless of the outcome of the renovation or any other project, you _will_ build something, just like you did so far. At minimum community, a following, a collection of people seeing something of interest, touching their lives. Keep it comin' guys! 🙂

I think it’s clear how much you enjoy being closer to family, just in this one video. This was absolutely the best choice for all of you at this stage in your lives. And thinking about Allie’s struggle being without a supportive community after Leo was born and contrasting that to this simple family get-together, got me teary-eyed. Having a comfortable home in the valley, close to family, friends, medical care and shopping, will make a huge difference with this second baby. I love what I’ve seen of this house so far. My theory is that the quickest way to make your house look dated is to follow trends. Classic style and coordination of the fixed features, like the wooden cabinets and the countertops, will stand the test of time. This house is already cozy and charming, without anything added. It’s also perfect for family gatherings, as we saw in this video!

The concept isn't new, ya know! Here in 1800-1900 Texas, farmers and ranchers in remote areas would build "Sunday" houses in town. They were usually small but served the purposes of staying a night or two to get supplies, go to dances and other celebrations, see a doctor and Sunday morning services before returning to the farm or ranch. Our need for community is strong and so we fill as we can. Kudos to you, my husband and I would like to do the same since we live in a remote part of Texas but prices are high here. We have a Minnie Winnie and a place to park it, so we just take it to town. My sister lives there and she likes to say that we live in "the Boondocks" and rarely visits me. So I totally get why this was so important to you. ❤

As a parent of teens, you’ll be glad your new drivers don’t have to navigate the mountain in the winter, and they’ll enjoying being closer to school and social activities as teens. Good choice. You could always rent it if you aren’t using it. It feels crazy when you’re in it, but it makes sense! p.s. I love all the oak in the new house! It’s easy to modernize with accents. The oak will be classic. Keep the old appliances too. You won’t regret it! They last, and any repairs are worth it. I love my double oven.

The trajectory of your lives is changing so it’s a marvelous idea- moving to the city. I feel the same way about the oak, It’s warm and inviting. Also I had that same double oven for 18 years in a home which 😅we had built for ourselves in 1993. I loved it. The bottom oven was perfect for cooking Thanksgiving turkeys and you still have the top oven for the potatoes and Green bean casserole. I would keep it as long as you can because they don’t make these new appliances like they used to years ago. May God bless you and your family moving forward.

There are still homes and furniture being used in the UK of 600 year old oak. As for the double oven, you’ll get by with a second rack from Goodwill and a cell phone timer.
