I can’t agree more with your assessment. I rented a brand new 2024 French Blue 4-cylinder Mustang and drove from Boston to San Francisco in March - 3,614 mi in 6 days mostly on Route 66; a lifelong dream. The car was incredibly comfortable; sharp steering, solid brakes, fantastic headlights, 315 hp and endless waves of turbo torque across the rpm, and 36.4 mpg. The only downside was the lack of paddle shifters. Many cars claim to be GTs, this one proved to be a true transcontinental grand tourer.

You can’t beat the sound of the v8. When I take my 22 GT in for an oil change, I can always tell when they take it back because not even the big pickups sound the same. For those who complain about the “luxury’” or lack there of, you buy cars for different reasons. I have a manual and I know there are days when I’m going to be in stop and go traffic and it’s going to suck. But there are days when I’m on a curvy road running the gears and you couldn’t get the smile off my face. I always appreciate a good review and while I’ll always choose a manual, I thought this was a balanced review.

The Mustang is the last V8 American pony car for a reason. Ford understands what the MAJORITY of buyers want; a fun around the town car that looks great, sounds great, is roomy enough, is practical for a person that actually has a family and friends. There are speciality versions for those that want to track them, but most never will. Here is the reality of any car with a track suspension setup, the only one that actually enjoys a ride in one is the driver. GT is "grand tourer" once you get over yourself, recognize you do not, nor will you ever approach the skill of Carol Shelby or Ken Miles, you'll enjoy a standard Mustang GT, how do I know? It's been around for 60 years now and it's the one American pony car that has a forseeable production future past 2030.

Only thing I’d change is the seats, the recaros are a lil tight, but it’s the same price as regular 2020 premiums are going for and 23-25k less than a 2024 with same equipment. Hard to buy the 24s when you can save 20-30k on one that’s a few years old and covered under a better warranty than new. I also hated the screens in the 24s. No one needs those

Mustangs GTs are built from the factory to be just that, a GT. If you want it to take turns at racing speeds or be the quickest thing down a straight line you’ll have to get a specialized package OR mod it yourself. For 35K you got 20 inch wheels, front Brembo brakes, power seats, wireless apple carplay/android auto, launch control, sports steering wheel, LED headlights and taillights, and most importantly a Tremec 6-speed manual with no-lift-shift and rev matching. And depending on trim you get heated and ventilated seats - that's why I ordered mine back in 2015 that way. Of course back then you only could get the manual with the PP - we didn't know back then that the 10speed was going to be good or not....

I spent a lot of time looking at videos of the 2024 Mustang and came close to pulling the trigger. I ended up buying a used 2005 manual GT with low miles (and a number of cosmetic flaws) for 10K. I still lust over the 20204 but I have kids with high expenses. New toys are on hold for another decade or so. In my opinion, The Dark Horse is for those that will track the car. The Base GT is all that most people need even if the premium trim with the single screen looks much better. The dual screen has identical functionality. The one small disagreement I would have is that there are 2 essential options. First, is the active exhaust. I agree completely that it is needed for making the car fun. Second, are the Brembo brake upgrades. You can upgrade the brakes without the performance package. The performance package is nice but doesn’t turn the Mustang into a Track car. It will need additional cooling only found on the Dark Horse trim. That requires a talk with the dealer about installing Ford Performance cooling parts. But the Brembo brake upgrade will be useful in real life even if you don’t track. The car is Heavy!! . Plus those red, blue or black calipers just look great.

Don't know about now but the S550 before the PP2 the PP was fine to live with - never had a complaint about the suspension in my 2015 with the PP - I'm in Ohio and routinely took it to Indiana, Michigan, NC, PA, TN, NY, etc. it was my "salesman's car" - I can see though with the PP2 and further refinements over the years that would make the car more track focused - I agree that in many cases an upgrade to some areas (brakes and exhaust) would be optimal - I would probably get trapped with: "the package is only a couple hundred more than the al-a-carte options" and just go that route even though it might make living with on the daily more of a pain....

Most dealerships load up the Mustangs they order for inventory, obviously so they can make more money. I just ordered and picked up a new 2024 premium GT with nothing but the Nite Pony Package in the same color as this one for 49K. Not the cheapest I could have gone but cheaper than all the dealer ordered premiums I see online. If you have discounts, you can grab a base GT for 40K.

All the hate …. lol 😂opinions are like … well you know everyone has got one . At the end of the day it’s a nice car in my opinion . I’ve owned 10 S550s some supercharged and some not , ZERO issues with any of them and 3 S650s of which 2 were Dark Horses ( made money on those 😊) . My current favorite is my Spec2 RTR great car , it’s a Premium with active exhaust and upgraded brakes as well as all the RTR goodies . The A10 is exceptional in the 2024 and it’s just as fast as any N/A stock S550 out there . Go drive one and you’ll see what I’m talking about… oh btw the screens as people like to call them will grow on you. I wouldn’t go back to a 550 unless it was given to me. Peace out ✌🏻

The CHEAPEST you can find a 2015+ ( currant ish. Body and great Coyote engine with around 100k) is 30k. If you think a 10 year old used Mustangs worth 30k ( + ) , go for it. I'll grab an old... 08 GTO or XLR or Audi RS or V8 BMW ( Several models) for half that $ & do a couple easy mods and smoke that Stang.... LOOKIN better, handling better, driving all year long in the snow and all, in my heated air conditioned leather 16 way adjustable seats to boot... Are definitions of " Value" are obviously very, very different. Ps. My old daily 12' Merc S550 AWD I smoke these stangs as well ( yes I'm running a few more pounds of boost then stock). There's 0 noise in my cabin, it's like riding on a cloud during a hurricane on rails... I got her 3 years ago for 10k, & she's never broke or let me down once other then basic maintenance.

My 2022 GT Premium with a 10 speed auto bogs before downshifting from 10 to 9 and 9 to 8, you have to use the paddle shifters to stay in power band. I wish it had an 8 speed transmission instead. You don’t need a 10 speed in this car and I don’t care about gas mileage. I had to get an automatic to use car as an extra family car without a manual. I bought my 2015 GT with Perf Pack (then with a manual) in the summer of 2015 with the intent of making it a pretty comfy "road burner" - while the MPG wasn't all that great - fuel was much less than it is today - I don't think I'd look at the Mustang for that purpose today. My current "road burner" is a MINI Clubman JCW - in most mixed driving I usually get about 33MPG. Nothing really is like the Mustang in that it did soak up the miles and was one of the few cars out there with a normally aspirated V8, manual transmission and decent overall comfort for a pretty reasonable price (I don't think I spent much over $45k with tax, title, fees, etc.). I still believe that just about everyone should experience a car like that for a while in their lifetime....
