I bought 'THIS Isn't" chicken pieces today because sweet n sour chicken balls in batter is too tempting, hopefully these will end that chinese takeaway craving! Can't remember if they sold 'What the Cluck" but they had something from The Vegetarian Butcher next to it on the shelf but if it's this stuff I would definitely buy it as it looks like roast turkey which I used to make Doner Kebab with and the spices should add enough flavour to the spot on texture/chew. I tried Quorn mince, the smell made me yak whilst cooking instantly and it said egg whites in the ingredients anyway so it went straight in the bin. Annoying because 2/3 of the shelf is Quorn products but I make much better vegan mince from egg plant + oat flour + semolina anyway.

The vegetarian butcher has been asking for a while, I think they're Dutch - we've been eating their products for a few years whenever we visited the Netherlands. Thanks for the review! Interesting comparison!

Have you reviewed the new quorn pre-made sandwich mixes? I've been looking out for them but cant seem to find them in stores unfortunately, most stores stock only a few quorn meat free products - stores like Ocado seem to have way more but prices are higher

I'm a new vegetarian but only just found out that a flexitarian is and I find it a better label for me. I wanted to reduce my meat consumption and wanted to eat more vegetables in my diet. I realised I was eating alot of meat in my meals and not as much veg as I'd like too be eating. I was getting sick of eating meat and the taste of meat as well. I'm going flexietarian for ethical reasons, environmental factors and to improve diet health. I wanted to do an experiment where I soaked a few pieces of the what the cluck vegan chicken in chicken stock overnight to let it soak in properly. Because I was worried it wouldn't taste like chicken on its own. I put both on opposites corners of the pizza and I couldn't really taste the difference especially since I was cutting it up and having it with baked beans. That and I kinda got turned around and didn't realise which was which. But by that point I couldn't honestly tell and the pizza was delicious. My omi boyfriend said the chicken by its self tasted like raw chicken but he had it in big pieces and didn't shred it like I did. So it might just be that or he could try the this isn't chicken one. The this isn't chicken doesn't go well in chicken noodles but what the cluck would i feel. Since the stock soaked was fine and this would be cooked for a short amount of time. This is AMAZING to hear- GREAT job!!! And soaking overnight is dedication to the cause of searching for vegan chicken 😆😆 I would say you might be pleasantly surprised with the This Isn't, it looks a bit dry and boring...but it is anything but. In a chicken stir-fry it would be ideal! And tbh I would skip the chicken stock soaking as that sounds like a lot of effort, and for long term ditching of meat it's best to make it as easy as possible and just enjoy ripping open a packet and chucking in 😁😁

You really should try like schnitzel from the brand like meat. Its soy based and you fry it in oil and man its so amazing in a bread roll with Ketchup yummy. I had both pieces and half and stacked them with Ketchup in between. I liked to apply Ketchup to the edges of each bite edge but on its own with minimal amount of your choosing of sauce its just as juicy 😋 will be having them again definitely.

I wonder if Prezzo use the 'This isn't chicken' on their vegan pizza. It was amazing. I kept saying. "I think they've got it wrong and given me real chicken"😂

i tried 'this isn't chicken' and i was really disappointed. to be honest im having a really hard time staying vegan right now. it's an awful feeling because I still feel immense guilt over the animals suffering, but I can't find good foods as a vegan.

Really sorry to hear that dude! What foods are you looking for as maybe I can help? Also remember turning vegan can be quite a huge change if you’re coming from a standard uk or American diet for example. Don’t beat yourself up if you find it hard. I went flexitarian, then vegetarian, then just dairy milk and then vegan over about 6 years, would have found it so hard to go from meat eater to vegan overnight. Now as I phased the change it’s so easy. This is about long term change! Even if you swap out one food a week that’s an amazing change and amazing for the animals.

One of the problems with plant based items is the sodium content; usually too much; real meat contains no salt unless you add it, so why don't these products let you put on your own salt? and didn't you just say that the 'what the cluck' tasted just like roast chicken, how you say it really doesn't?

Just tried ‘this isn’t chicken’ after watching this video.. very disappointed.. doesn’t taste or feel like chicken .. it’s basically tasteless with a hint of watered down chicken stock.. I’ve yet to eat a tasty meat free product even though I would love to

90% of these things are garbage and the mental gymnastics that some people do to say it tastes good is mind boggling, rather have a bean burger over any cheap meat substitute burger.

Hey mate, to be honest I’m a big supporter as anything that doesn’t kill chickens is great in my view. Also I would be able to feed my cat this sort of meat and be guilt free. HOWEVER: I wouldn’t eat it, and one of the big reasons is the negative effects of animal protein, read the China Study as it’s crazy the correlation to serious diseases they find.

Agree with you 100% on your thoughts of these, what the cluck is really good in a stirfry, chinese. This isn't chicken is great for on the side of chips etc.,
