WE BUILT A GIANT WALL AND NEW BACKYARD SKATEPARK FEATURES!!

The DIY backyard skatepark is one of my favourite builds ever! I know loads of people are missing the Playground but it's too wet to build and ride there right now so instead of dirt jumps this skatepark mega build has been the perfect project for the past month. Look at the insane progress we made with this new vert wall and quarter pipe section, it's almost ready to ride! What do you think I should build in the final area?
Enjoy the 2 build lapses and planning!

Get some rugby post pads for those RSJs. You'd probably have to hollow out the centres a bit to fit, but would do the trick to stop injuries

I know it would make it a lot more complex and take a hell of a lot longer but would be unreal if the last 2 internal corners you gave them an internal radius and created a half bowl shape, you could also do an external radius on the roller in the middle so it slopes out to the flat and can be ridden from all angles. Would make that whole area flowy and be able to transfer into the spine from different angles 👌🏼

Yes! As he said, you can find Trey doing some radius builds. Or hell, you could prolly just ask the guy how to do it. I think a quarter bowl in the back corner would be sick.

A tip for if you're cutting heaps of timber the same length would be set up a jig/ endstop. That way instead of having to measure every length, you can just slide it up until it stops then go. It'll save heaps of time overall for the amount of time it'll take to set up. Even just clamping a bit of wood will do the job 👍

Skate lite is a great surface for ramps, but the 6mm version in particular is really meant as a durable finishing layer. So normally you’d use something like 2 x 9mm ply layers and then 6mm skatelite on top. Running only a 12mm surface with skatelite on would likely be prone to rippling over time, especially if the joists are bigger than 300mm apart. The other issue is that whilst skatelite is durable and water resistant you need to ensure the underlying layers have been sealed to withstand the elements or otherwise the ply layers will just rot under the skatelite. So overall I’d agree that just using plywood makes more sense here, but if you did happen to get a good deal on skatelite please ensure the plywood underneath is well sealed. Note that even if it’s not directly exposed to the elements condensation can still be a source of moisture in a semi-open environment like a barn.

If your curtain becomes a kite, look at a mesh livestock panel - although it will not be 100% waterproof, it will keep a surprising amount of weather out, lets light in and stands up to the wind better than a solid curtain ( most farms use them on live stock barns to keep the worst of the weather out)

Hey Matt, it’s looking so, so good! What a project! I’m not a mountain biker at all so have no useful suggestions with the design of the rest of the skate park, but have you thought at all about having fixed cameras in the barn for filming videos? Having the roof and the walls could give the potential for great shots and putting any cabling in underneath the wood at this stage could keep it out of the way. Can’t wait to see you guys riding on it :)

I would say the 3 following things: 1- Shorten the spox at the steel beam side by about a foot and leave that as a flat passthrough for excess speed. 2- Make sure you tie the vert wall to the barn cross beams for rigidity and 3- Future build idea - The corner to the right of the vert wall, make a 1/4 high wall bowl :) Love to see what you do next!
@renebarger3667
@renebarger3667 Жыл бұрын
You may want to consider little cutouts in the curtain to reduce wind load. You see those little smileys in vinyl signs for exactly that purpose. Also, would it be easier to ply the vert-wall from top down to stand on the horizontal pieces as you go? Or perhaps just screw some pieces into the decking to stand on and work upwards.

When cutting radius’s it’s much quicker and cleaner to use a nice circular saw. Also a stop block for your miter saw would save you guys so much time. Just need a an extension either side of the miter saw then screw in a piece of wood at the correct length, it will save you guys so much hassle

Either in one of the corners or against the long wall there should be a small concrete section. And built into the concrete section there should be a fire place with a metal or stone chimney that can run all the way to the ceiling or a right angle out the back wall. A fireplace with a 6 ft roller over it. Warm n cozy in the winter!
