Croc skinks are unfairly cute to be as shy as they are lol. That's a cruel combo, mother nature.

Love Crocodile skinks, they look like little dragons. How would you rate their degree of difficulty in keeping them from 1-10? Your enclosure came out awesome!
@ellesreptiles3 жыл бұрын
She's so incredibly easy. Just spraying the tank down everyday and feeding bugs. They don't need a large enclosure, they don't need a high hot spot (shouldn't exceed about 85°F). So the hardest part is probably just keeping the humidity up, but as long as you have a large water dish, even that isn't difficult. 🥰

Will someone explain to me why it is that for some reptiles you handle them so they get used to you and others you DON"T handle them to get used to you? It seems to me that Crocodile Skinks are given a pass and allowed to be scared of human interaction for their entire lives but other reptiles who would otherwise be the same way are forced to "get used to it". Also, if a reptile is this shy and there is no way to break this habit why are we forcing them into cages to begin with? What is the point of having a creature if it hates you and would rather hide all the time? This comment.question is not meant to piss anyone off, just curious. I love these little creatures. I think they look amazing and I love the type of set up you can build for them. It is my favorite kind of build. Live plants, running water and such is something I try to do with all my reptiles. So these Crocodile Skinks are right up my alley in terms of the type of reptile I want to have. But this "don't handle" thing really has me confused.
@ellesreptiles3 жыл бұрын
So, as long as you get a captive bred crocodile skink, you can usually handle them down. They're all pretty shy, but captive bred usually DO get used to humans. Reptiliatus here on KZbin has multiple CB croc skinks that he tong feeds - they have no problem coming out to him. I'm not sure if you follow him on IG, but he's always posting feeding videos of his (he also captive breeds them, so he starts them early with handling 😊) I was sold mine as a captive bred from a reptile show (which looking back, the table was a bit odd, but since this was a dream animal of mine, I unfortunately didn't notice at the time. I was just so excited to finally find one). When I took her to the vet, I was informed that she was most likely wild caught, because she had so many different kinds of parasites. 😔 Sorry about the confusion! Usually I explain this in all videos with her in it, but I guess I just assumed people would get tired of hearing it over and over, forgetting that some people haven't heart me explain it at all. 😅

@@ellesreptiles Seeing these on many videos over at Reptiliatus (am a fan of his channel also) and the review of them on Clint's Reptiles (also a fan) and you all saying the same thing is what made me post my comment. I guess what I am asking is... even with daily one-on-one time there is no way to have these little creatures learn to not fear you and actually want to spend time with you? I don't just mean at feeding time. My Water Dragons used to be scared of me and the cats. Now they jump out of the cage into my arms when I open the door. They even have learned to completely mess with the cats, teasing them constantly.

Isn’t she just going to use the waterfall as a toilet which will clog it up? Can we have a video about how you clean it?
@ellesreptiles3 жыл бұрын
She might 😂. We'll just have to do like we did in the last water feature - keep a check on it and spot clean. We don't run the waterfall at night, which is when she's active, so we shouldn't have to worry about clogs. 😊 As for just cleaning it, we used the water bowl so that we can just turn the pump off, scoop out the water, and wipe it all down 😊
