thank you for encouraging people to pick this animal up as a pet. almost every You Tuber is saying that they are the worst pets to have and are just not worth it because of how reclusive they are. totally makes people not want these amazing animals. you on the other hand are showing just how incredible they can be with a little effort and patience

Yeah I agree- just because an animal doesn't love being held all the time does not make it a bad pet whatsoever! While you should not handle red eyed croc skinks all the time does not mean they can never be tamed. If it were me, I would tame it and handle every now and then (with food probably as motivation) to keep tame enough to where I can hold it for certain occasions. Of course it takes patience and not every individual is the same, but I would respect the creature and it's space and limits and patiently try to work with it.

Yes! I have a female Cuban Knight Anole who lives in the skyscraper terrarium, so I trained her to be 100% hand fed and leash trained. She goes on morning walks with my dog to get some natural direct sunlight time. She started out very wiley and would bite when I came into her territory. It took me about a month to get her to calm down and trust me picking her up. A year before I could get her to walk out onto my hand and offer a foot into her harness willingly. I love her! Love what you do and the training you do with your reptiles! As a vet tech, knowing your pets eating habits is really important to me. Keep up the videos showing people they are more than earlier generations believed!

I've tamed one of my snapping turtles. Her name is Raptor. I know, its a very friendly name. She is 8 inches shell length and never shows aggression. She is kinda food aggresive when she sees the feeding tongs but, when there isn't food involved she is tame. It took me 2 years and now I can finally rub her chin and top of her head and sometimes she likes to follow me around.

Hi Dayyan! I just needed this video♥️. My Gal, 3yo red eyed girl, escaped over the Christmas holiday while I was away (most likely with my cats help). I was worried sick to the literal meaning of it when my husband called me. As the holiday goes, I always stay with my family for few days and my dear behalf comes home early to take care of our animals. He was searching for 3 days without break and she finally let him spot her today! She simply appeared in the middle of the room. All stressed out, bit dehydrated and hungry but without scratch🙏. My Western Beardy, Sam, wasn't at all bothered by being handled. Even loved to sit on my shoulder. I was always gentle with her, and would often take her to bathe in natural sunlight. Wasn't all my doing, though; she was already good with being handled when I got her.

My False Cuban Chameleons have both heavily bonded with me and I with them! Male AND Female both love to spend body time on me, on my shoulder or on top of my head! Little to do with hand feeding although I did do some of that. I think they like being out because I keep it calm and quiet and they can hide on me and under my long hair. If I have had a long day with not much time with them, they kick up a fuss when they hear me and won’t stop until I hold them. I have fallen asleep and waking up, they are still snuggled on me! I love that this bond happened separate from their eating habits! Slow, gentle and quiet gives them an environment they trust!

Honestly it's not just the food it's the dedication and time for you to help build that bond cause you can feed an animal all you want but time and dedication is where it's really at where you can really shine threw with your animals I've taken in so many "unhandlable " animals and I don't believe I take them but I do believe I become accepted by them taming is kinda a word I don't like using when it comes down to it because we can never truly tame nature that's why when I became an Exotics enthusiast. I never truly had friends nor family growing up but the one thing I'll never take back growing up is the fact my love for animals has only grown and for some reason animals love me to maybe it's because I respect them or maybe there's some special gift that I have that makes animals like me but I can safely say I've handled tons of animals that are bite now ask questions never that never once bit me...(besides my frogs who think I'm food) other than that never been tagged by a juvie Nile monitor or wild caught tokays the seem to just press themselves up to my hands as much as they can most of the time or try to climb all over me

Before I moved here permanently to Florida, I came for a visit and caught some Anoles. I am a great lizard catcher. Anyway, back then I lived in my hometown of Charles City, Virginia. Well, I took them home and kept them until they all passed naturally. And NO they were just as wild and crazy as the day I caught them. But I so ❤ ed them anyway!!!

I have a leopard gecko I rescued from near death that grew attached to me super fast, I didn’t have to do anything lol. He gets excited and runs to the front of the tank when I walk into the reptile room and he wags his tail like a dog 😂😂😂, I can tong feed him and he walks right into my hand if I put it in the tank, he amazes me every day that I didn’t have to do absolutely anything lol. My white eyed crocodile skink acts just like your female red eye. Both my red eyed crocodile skinks are literally always hiding I never see them unless I get up really early and they are bathing in my waterfall feature I built lol

QOTD: not a reptile, but I have a clownfish that recognizes me and I’ve trained her to do a few cool things. When o first got her she would bite me so hard I sometimes bled into the tank whenever I put my hands in, but now she sometimes lets me pet her! She is a jerk to other fish though.

Hi Im Cindy from Korea and i adapted a pair of red eyed skink 2days ago. And i searched many things about them in Korea but I found that they are the nocturnal and really easy to die skink. - lack of info Im worried about my female skink because she look so small and weak. She is a bit bigger than your baby skink. She still has a light color head. My male one took a shower and sometimes goes around. He is bigger than her and starts to show red lines around his eyes - actually really tiny spot. I just put mealworm in wormdish. But she is still in her hiding place and didn’t eat at all. What is your opinion on Indonesian Blue Tongue skinks I’m 13 and have kept reptiles for seven years. This will not be my first. I aspire to be a zoologist in the future. Thank you! This may surprise you but I feed mine generously no more than 1-2 times a week! Usually I’ll dust about assorted sizes crickets with repashy calcium super plus and drop them here and there. I don’t give them set days, it changes and sometimes they eat more often. I tong feed them treats and also make sure Sally (female) is plump since she produces eggs regularly. Bottom line, they don’t eat too often.

Thanks for the response that’s very helpful and maybe something to point out to people. When I got my pair, I was so worried about them eating that I have kept them fully stocked with (probably too much) food for the five months I’ve had them. Obviously, they have little reason to look forward to me feeding them when they’re always full lol. They are mating and breeding but extremely shy and the biggest difference I’ve noticed are the amount of cover you provide with the pothos plants (I have plenty of hides but no low covering plants) and the incremental feeding as opposed to the non-stop supply I provide. Thanks and congrats on your success. Edit: one more thing I’ve noticed a lot of people do is keep them in smaller containers with no depth to dig their tunnels (Some experts even suggest the smaller plastic containers) and this may have an effect on their mating behavior if you want to point out other things to your subs.

I didn’t have any problems taming most of my reptiles, as they were tolerant from the start, and most tamed down quickly. My female leopard gecko now can eat outside the cage, willingly climbs on my hand and has no issue with handling. My crested gecko tolerates handling, but he doesn’t eat out of cage or under flashlight. It is the only gecko I fed from the hand though. My bearded dragon ate from my hand, climbed on my hand for the purpose of roaming outside and then returned on his own. My corn snake is as tolerant as the LG. I can take her elsewhere specifically for defecation, and I have fed her in the open. My rosy boa is very calm, but still shy with feeding. Sadly my male leopard gecko still runs away and screams when I pick him up, and rarely eats in front of me.

I easily tamed my chameleon But our red eyes are shy as hell. It took us over a year that they slept in „open“ places without hiding 24/7. When I open the enclosure for feeding or watering the plants they run into the next hiding space as fast as possible. But that’s okay. They are shy animals ;) Greetings from Germany!

I have on female novaeguineae (still looking for a male), she is pretty tame for a crocodile skink. Always in the open and eats out of my hand. But I have also a pair of red eyed croc skinks, they are not tame at all. I do have two young’s from them, but I already took them out the enclosure of the parents. Its taken 6 months training but we finally have a iggy that my 7 year old can handle . He's also toilet trained yes this is a thing .
