I think it looks pretty good but i would 1) seal the back so it's watertight so if any moisture does collect on the back of it then it has the opportunity to just roll down and off when it dries, and can get plenty of air circulation. 2) I think maybe the side facing the rest of the bathroom needs to have something that goes wall to wall and up to the ceiling that hides the carabiners from view. Other than that, stick with it and enjoy the creative lighting that you dreamt up. It won't be for everyone, and it may not be for you later, but you made it easily removable if you change your mind later and don't want it any more. Great job!

I love everything you guys do, but it's a hard pass for me on this one. You've essentially lowered a nice high ceilinged shower, made the ceiling black, added a bunch of unnecessary indirect lighting, and obstructed the exhaust fan with a 150+ pound monstrosity that is going to be collecting dust, moisture and mildew. What was the point of the nice low-profile exhaust fan when you're just going to cover it up? That bathroom is starting to look like it belongs in a strip club. Pump the brakes on the LEDs guys. I say all that with love. I'm a longtime subscriber and will continue to be.

Next time you need to do a bevel cut with the track saw on the waste side, just clamp a 2x under the workpiece spanning both sides of the cut. Reset the depth of the track saw to just below the workpiece, and make your cut. The 2x will support the waste and the workpiece during and after the cut. The soffit came out fantastic, just like darn near every project the Stud Pack does! If its not, Leviton makes a Decora Edge outlet that uses tech similar to wago lever nuts for locking the wires in place. Ohh. It was the wrong outlet! Disregard previous comment. LOL. Although, for non wet areas you could use the Leviton ones. Love how you labeled it. My dad loved to label things. I should label things but I usually forget. Nice work. Love watching you. I don't have a track-saw. I do have a straight-ish length of thin plywood about 6" wide. I clamp this to the work and run my ordinary (corded, pre-dates battery saws, and all I could afford at the time) circular saw's foot edge along it to make a straight cut. You can use either side of the foot. A low profile clamp is needed to hold the guide in place. Using this method I made a beast of a sideboard/wall unit.

I did not think of Qubert but it fits. What a bunch of work for that, but it looks good and covers the issues well. I'd have the light in the middle by a gimbal so it can point straight down. I also think 2x6s make it too thick, perhaps use 2x2s instead. And if you change it, I'd just make it white, the black tile is too dark, and it's not getting the Qubert vibe that the wall has. Possibly just paint in a pattern that follows the grout joint, so you have the tile in sort of relief in white with the grid of the grout line being the feature. Mostly make it less massive and use smaller hooks to they hide better. As someone stated, it's better to seal the top side, you will definitely get water pooling in it.

Great work fellas, never seen a floating soffit in a shower. Did have a thought /concern through, is there a plan to keep water out of the top or have a way to drain? I imagine during a long hot shower steam will condense on the ceiling and drip into the top of the floating soffit box frame and collect. Will also condense on the electrical cords and run down them into the junction box and driver box as well. In the Navy we used Nepseal putty on any cable penetration into electrical equipment cabinets to prevent condensation or water spray from flooding from running down cables into electrical panels etc. I think in general I would want that top mounted equipment up in the ceiling access panel away from moisture not only for safety but longevity of the components inside. Probably overkill but I know even in my ventilated bathroom with tall ceilings a 20 minute hot shower will coat the ceiling with moisture and will drip.

Nice design with the back lighting. I would like to think that you thought thru your wiring design and connections. I'm a retired electrician with some experience and think that you are setting yourself up for future problems and electrical failure. That soffet is in a high humidity space with an exhaust fan that channels the humid exhaust over your electrical boxes and your wifi connection block. None of those components are protected from the condensation that is going to form, not only on the outside of the metal box but also on your connections. You planned for humidity and condensation with the installation of the correct type of duplex recept for the ceiling application. The components/wiring, mavbe not so much. Suggestions: Put all the components in a NEMA 12 or some other watertight box to avoid the hazards of moisture on electrical components . I also see a mold problem with that fixture in your future. Sorry to be a downer because I really enjoy your channel. Your willingness to try different methods and materials are really educational and entertaining. Stay safe and keep those videos coming. Thanks.

Most electric codes cannot have a receptacle or switch within X amount of inches from shower/tub surround.

I thought your work is great, and I like watching and getting ideas as I build our home in Kenya. I am a retired electrician from the UK. All our cables are colour coded, Brown-Live, Blue-Neutral, Green/Yellow-earth. The only thing I must say that I don't like about the American way of doing things is that on our earth wire, we sheath it with Green/Yellow cover in all our boxes/Fittings so there is no bare wire that could possibly short out.

Ahh nice work on the sheathing. They do have drivers that come with an enclosure. Emitever makes a nice one, it’s a black rectangle

Any concern on the effectiveness of the shower exhaust fan being above that whole platform?

Really cool and I love you guys built all that from some chicken scratches to seeing it on the ceiling. That is what I enjoy doing myself. You can party in that bathroom :).... Cool stuff Thanks
