For the wood you tie it to rocks and weigh it down You can also get this plant called water lettuce. I put it in my pond and it expands really well and my fish love it

In creeks and rivers, use 1/4 ounce round head jig heads with a 3 inch Curly tail grub it works really well in these Kentucky creeks and rivers. Weightless worms Texas rigged, little soft plastic crates, spinner baits and little crank baits usually work pretty well
