Most of us can increase our distance by swinging faster, but here’s the catch-how we normally try to do it doesn't work. Typically, once a round, we get fed up and decide to “swing out of our shoes,” expecting to magically add 10 mph to our clubhead speed and gain 20 extra yards. Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. #golflesson #golf
The reason is that your body doesn’t know how to move the club faster safely. Our bodies, particularly our brains, have a governor known as neuromuscular reaction time. The golf swing is a motor program stored in our brains, and when we access that program, there's a speed limit set by our bodies. To swing faster, we need to change that motor program by actually training our bodies to move faster.
So, how do we do that? By swinging things that are lighter than our driver. Many Olympic sports like javelin, shot put, or baseball training use objects slightly lighter than the standard equipment to train the body and brain to move faster in familiar movements.
