Combo would be great if it ended up in one or two really powerful monsters that actually feel like bosses Unfortunately in its current state the playstyle is barely more interactive than floodgate spam because it just floods the board with cards that restrict you to the point where the best and often only way to deal with a combo endboard are cards that are played specifically becsuse they cannot be answered (dark ruler/droplets, kaijus/golem/golden ball, superpoly) and with ridiculous consistency on top of it

Modern Yu-Gi-Oh will never beat OG Yu-Gi-Oh. Me and my brother recently decided to only duel each other with OG decks and keep our modern decks for just competitive play. The moment I pulled out my OG cards from deep in my collection to build an OG deck I was hit with an unbelievable wave of joy. Seeing all of my old favourite cards and combos I used to use again after 15+ years and making my OG deck was the best and most fun Yu-Gi-Oh moment I’ve had in my life. So many awesome cards just get forgotten to time.

I prefer old yugioh to current, mainly because the duels take just as long, if not longer now, but instead of going back and forth for 20 turns it’s mostly just one person setting up an unbreakable Omni-negate board for half an hour and either player 2 can break it or they don’t get to play, no in between

I don't like modern full power Yu-Gi-Oh but I also played old school and I prefer more modern decks because you see more cards than the old school beaters

I feel most people who hate on old Yu-Gi-Oh or belittle it think of it from the adult an adult mindset with meta hindsight. There literally was only one kid from my elementary to middle school duel days that played an actual "meta deck." Most people were litte dummies like me running Machine King, Dark Necrofear, and Exodia Necross in the same deck with no way to summon them because they looked cool.

EXACTLY. Thats what we were basically trying to say in the intro. Most of us went to the store, discovered yugioh, grabbed a starter deck and a few packs, made decks. We then took these decks to the green box thing in our neighborhoods and dueled for ages. They def had wild metas (some even more broken than today) but we didnt live those. We werent competing to win Worlds, we competed to win our neighborhoods.

It has nothing to do with meta, it has to do with the fact that old Yugioh was literally just a shitty MTG rip off until GX added archetypes and the game actually had an identity. Prior to that you basically ran either beatdown or beatdown with Chaos

Old School Yugioh, back when we had a "Fusion Deck" and not an "Extra Deck", and there was no card limit on it. So your Fusion Deck was literally every fusion card you owned.
