I have a lot of thoughts about the true crime stuff as I recently completed my degree in criminology. But I think there are 2 main types: the type that elevates the victim(s) and those that relish in gory details. There is something about a documentary that edits in like generic sad music about a real person who was killed in some horrible way that makes me angry. The idea of the only legacy these victims having is the worst moment of their lives and most people don't know their names, but instead their killer is semi-glorified is such an injustice. Ted Bundy is a great example of this the popular narrative that he was this cunning, charismatic, attractive man and that is how he lured women. In fact most of the time he preyed on people's kindness by having a fake cast or pretending to have some sort of disability and asking for assistance. He took advantage of women and girls trying to help someone. People know Ted Bundy as exactly the caricature he would want to be remembered. But so few people talk about Kimberly Leach, who was 12 when he raped and murdered her. He was a coward that took advantage of people he knew were weaker than him physically, and he was an idiot narcissistic who was so incompetent that he decided to represent himself in court after dropping out of law school. Most of the time true crime is a cynical, exploitative cash grab that will not even ask the families of victims for permission, let alone give them even a sliver of compensation. Also because of the way the human brain works people WAY overestimate the danger of serial killers. The people most likely to kill you are not a stranger, but those you know: coworkers, partners, family, friends. Being hypervigiliant about being murdered when you are the least likely demographic (wealthy, white) to experience that isn't going to prepare you it's just going to make it more likely that you hurt someone else. Also I do think there are ways to do respectful true crime stuff I just think you have to be very careful and most people don't care about that they just want the bag. Also a lot of it is very victim-blamey.

This is soo true. I love watching true crime but there is a lot of stuff that has made me uncomfortable for the very reasons you said, victim blaming, glorifying the criminal. I have watched and dropped a lot of KZbin true crime series for those very reasons. I want to understand the mindset behind the crime and the story of the victims but I don’t want to knowingly watch things that are re- victimising the families left behind.

Nah Aiden is super right, basketball sized spider is scarier. Because irrational fear - fear of something "because it's scary" - is a different feeling than rational fear. A spider the size of a bus would be terrifying, but it's a rational thing to be afraid of. So you understand it and go into survival mode. As opposed to something that your brain can't fully explain or understand its fear of. This is the driving concept behind the Cosmic Horror genre

When I was a child I was absolutely terrified that a “man” would get into the house through the window next to my bed and stab me…. So I would have to pack all my teddy bears and other miscellaneous stuffed toys around my body so that they would maybe take the stab wounds and give me the opportunity to get away…. I’m now a grown woman who loves watching true crime, not so that I would know what not to do. But because I find the psychology, the minds of the people who commit the crimes fascinating. All that probably makes me weird and I am ok with it. Love you guys!! 😊

Psychology today has an article about why women love watching true crime. In general, we see ourselves in the victims and the shows help with tips and tricks on how to avoid being murdered. The psychology part, the motive, makes murderers less terrifying which can be comforting. It’s a part of reality for most women that there’s a risk everyday that we’ll be victimized, so true crime helps prepare you if it would happen.

Now I am addicted to this podcast because I cant find content like it anywhere else, and although you upload weekly, it still feels like I am waiting an eternity between episodes. I still don't watch unless Ludwig is on. I hate you Slime.

we used a disk, tiler, and rake to farm. We disk hard soil, then till it to turn over, and rake to level. A plow is just a form of tillers. So not all farmers use plows. Plows are like Op and depending on your crops and goals you might not buy a plow. Theory now is "the bacteria and other micro fauna improve the soil health and biology, converting old plant residues and mineral content of the soil into plant food". So farmers are more often turning to no-till farming as it is believed to improve soil structure.
