You guys need some tools…gas powered hedge trimmer would make quick work of things like vines on garage roof and with all of the discarded vine material, rent a Chipper to mulch all of that material down to a minimum! Maybe a decent Pressure Washer as well for all kinds of cleaning jobs. Again a gas powered machine 3000 psi would be awesome. Just some thoughts.

@tracybush81153 ай бұрын
Haha, OMGosh so cute when you whistled and the two looney fur angels came flying over. They nearly tripped over one another! You are a good whistler, that's something I cannot do. Gil, great work clearing away that tree suffocating the outbuilding. The ball launcher will make those pups sleep well at the end of the day, haha. I don't know if this tip will help for Winston's training but here it is. Years ago we trained our fox terrier/beagle puppy to ring a bell (hung at his nose height) so he could advise us when he needed to go outside to urinate - no barking or clawing at the door. The day we brought him home for the first time at 8 weeks old, I held his little body and let his nose touch the bell gently until it swung and rang, then immediately took him outside and sat him on the grass so he'd connect the bell with sitting on grass outside. It only took a few times in a couple of hours and suddenly we heard the bell ring - he did it himself - and we took him out and he went to the washroom. That dog never ever clawed at the door or barked to go out - only rang the bell! Perhaps if Gil picks up Winston with ball in his mouth - Winston's mouth, not Gil's, haha, and stands him over the launcher to DROP the ball in, he'll associate the launching ball with himself dropping it inside. Worth a try! Good luck.

I loved this installment. The go-pro view starting 3:30 reminds me of why I hate ladder work -- excellent videography. As other commenters have noted, the back side of the outbuilding is going to be a problem until you're able to remove the growth from the base on that side. I have a similar situation with my property. Fortunately my neighbors in my urban neighborhood are fine with me going on their property to remove the ivy and undergrowth along the base. Perhaps whomever owns that property will be similarly receptive. I've never needed anything more than a friendly conversation.

The business on the other side are very good, there’s also a chainlink fence about a foot behind the wooden fence so it looks like that is the boundary. At some point we’ll take the fence down and get at the weeds behind it.

I told my husband I was going to watch you rip ivy off your old out building, and he said, "Why would you want to watch that?" LOL...we spend last weekend removing ivy from our old (1950s) cement block workshop and (1930s) garage in preparation for tent fumigation for termites which are horrible here in Southern California. That's how I know ivy can turn into a tree. I'm curious how much space there might be between the back of your outbuildings and the property line. Our garage is three inches, which was code when it was built, but now a 15 foot setback is required. "Grandfather" clause allows it to stay unless we want to tear down and rebuild. Now that you are living there regularly, it should be easier to keep up with the ivy, which will grow back. A few sprays of climbing rose over the fence would be pretty, but ivy is evil. I'm sure Gil will get a lot more work done now that doggies have a way to play ball on their own. Good thing you don't have Border Collies, or they might re-engineer the toy into a rocket launcher, lol.

Is the back wall of the shed and the fence next to it the property boundary on that side? If so, the eaves on the back would be an encroachment into the neighbor's property. It would be nice if you had enough space to put up a ladder or paint the back of the building.. Perhaps something could be worked out to purchase a strip or obtain an easement.

The ball launcher isn't a bad idea to keep your doggies happy, only it's going to take some convincing to persuade them that they don't need the human element involved to get the balls to launch. One of our dogs is the same. They love the interaction of fetching the ball and dropping it for you to throw it for them.

Much better now that the viines are removed. I'm wondering if you can get access to the back side of the out building? The fence is built right up against the building. Is that normal were you live. Iv never seen that before, and don't know how you can maintain/work on the back side with a fence up against it. The plaster could be falling off back there and you wouldn't know it. Aswell as possible wood rot.
@theoldstationrenovation3 ай бұрын
The fence is right up against it but there is a chain link about a foot behind it which I’m guessing is the actual boundary. It’ll be tight but that should give us enough space to get in there 🤞🤞

Why do you need to train Winston to use the ball launcher? He's got you perfectly trained!

Another enjoyable video, certainly come a long way, keep up the good work. Do you still have the chickens? Phil & Chris.

Thank you! We’ve still got the chickens, we’ve moved them to the bridge garden so they have more space to scratch around.

Winston doesn't need to learn to put the ball in the launcher because he has staff to take care of it for him. 🤣

With the out building could you talk to your neighbour and get behind the building and remove the plants completely so the problem is fully resolved

We noticed that there is a chain link fence about a foot behind the wooden fence so I’m guessing that’s the actual boundary. At some point we’ll get it down and take care of the plants at ground level.

If Gil is going to be working at heights like that, the ladder should really be tied off for his safety. I speak from bitter experience.

Have you ever noticed men never grow out of playing with toy's, they just get bigger, more expensive and are powered. 12 mins 20 secs in, I do believe the training is complete, I think Winston has you well trained. LOL
