We CRASH OUR NARROWBOAT HOME on the Grand Union Canal | Braunston Turn Ep.174

We crash our new narrowboat home on the Grand Union Canal, heading to Napton we leave Braunston and the Gongoozlers Rest. Feeling intimidated by another boater we crash our boat, we struggle to find moorings at Napton, but our luck changes and we moor up in a lovely location. Anthony pops to the cidery and we have a drink at the Potting Shed.
Listen to the birdsong and admire the English countryside as we travel in silence on an electric propulsion narrowboat. Travelling on the Grand Union Canal on an electric propulsion narrowboat, armed with lithium batteries and an electric motor from Vetus and almost 2 kw of solar, will our new Narrowboat make it through the amazing Braunston tunnel and Down the locks past the Admiral Nelson Pub. We seatch for a mooring on this busy canal and head to the pub for a few drinks, walking back along the canal at night to our cosy narrowboat home, just perfect.
Paul & Anthony together with Dexter live full time, but manage to work part-time, on a Narrowboat, cruising the UK Canals and finding out what it's really like to be Living on a boat exploring the Nature and scenery on some of the best canals and rivers in the UK onboard an Oakums Narrowboat called Morning Star. Our brand brand new narrowboat from Oakums Narrowboats is embracing the latest technology including lithium, solar, and electric propulsion, the boat will be coal and gas free. How beautiful the scenery and especially the windmill. Can't believe how busy the canals are. One has to really pay attention. But what an adventuresome duo you are. @@anthonysmith-storey9247 Hi Anthony, ooh will have to try it. I usually go up there every 6 weeks to my hairdressers at Scott Charles in Tarleton. Didn't want to change hairdressers as I've been with them a while and always scary trying to find a new one . I try to combine it with a vista to friends in Tarleton or Hesketh Bank. However I had to get back home yesterday, so I got a take away sandwich from The Boskins cafe beneath the hairdressers. Great great food there. Hope the bump on the boat hasn't done too much damage. The sounds of the countryside as you cruise silently along - just the best. The more I watch your boat the more I get boat envy. Then the comment "a couple from NZ, Australia or Canada - somewhere hot". I know parts of Canada get a few hot weeks, but really, Canada as a hot country? We are in the tropics. If you want to know what it is like to be somewhere that is hot 24/7 you are welcome to visit - always a spare room here.

So much fun to watch you cruise a section of canal that we just did a few weeks ago. "I remember that..." When we were set to moor at Napton, it was right before the festival. We knew we wouldn't get moored close by. Fortunately, we weren't going to the locks so we winded at the hole before the locks and were able to moor about 30 minutes or so from the marina, and about a 15 minute walk (along a terrible towpath!) to get to the Folly and to town. JD feels better about the issues he had after watching A. bump the boat. :D We did walk the flight though - and there wasn't much in the way of mooring - even in those pounds.

@@anthonysmith-storey9247 The storm was crazy, in some areas 250mm came down in just around 5 hours causing flash floods, roads washed out , 4 deaths as people tried to escape vehicles that became submerges instantly. Many power outages, fires caused by lightening strikes…..and more. We ended up ok even though my daughter arrived in a little lull from a flight and stubbornly wouldn’t stay at the airport ( where some of the worst flooding was just a couple of miles by it) and drove home at 2:00 in the morning. She says her careful driving got her home ok….I told her God and my prayers got her here in one piece, finally got to bed at 3:30 am. We’re all okay , part of our street washed out but we’re going into a three day weekend of similar weather. Fingers crossed we are safe again. 🤞🙋🏼‍♀️

I'm just sat at home watching the pouring rain here in Stockport with a horrid cold and I just thought to myself how lovely is it watching this video, so relaxing. I’m always shocked that comments go negative - didn’t their parents ever tell them ‘if you can’t say something nice…remain silent!’ It’s not like when I was a kid in the dark ages and there were only 3 tv channels and VCRs weren’t invented yet, then you had something to complain about! KZbin already has more content then you could ever watch in a million lifetimes, seriously, if I’m not enjoying something, I watch something else ! Seeing Dexter with the banjo playing fella looked so right! New to your channel and really enjoying it. I have been on a few boating holidays when younger with my dad, he worked for the bank of England and they had their own narrow boat and could rent it out on the Birmingham canal as I remember. Good times. Looking forward to the next video.

Loved that area earlier in the year, breakfast at Gongoozlers cafe with nice staff, Naughty Lass was moored but we didnt see Robbie, Foley Inn enjoyable meal, lovely cruising and Im sure I heard all of those birds. You hit a busy stretch with all those bends as well, but lovely surroundings as you cruise. Ops for the crash but it had to happen sometime and no damage. Personally I have not seen the comments about the speed of your boat/trips/video, I suspect that these people live in houses of flats, how slow does that move? 😁 Anyway, alway loving your videos, great to see you all well, even Dexter. The weather seems great there at the moment, enjoy it. Where I am that will be a mild climate, I do know though that you guys are not too used to temperatures that go over 25deg, just drink lots of water and try not to go out in the midday. Love the new (to me, anyway) closing video. Dangerous question: have you ever hit a duck with your boat? There are so many, and many with little babies, that I think it would be hard to avoid, especially with no view from the stern of what’s directly in front of the bow at water level.
