Many volunteer Potato plants came up in the kale. This is where we had potatoes planted in the spring and early summer. We decided to dig a few and we were surprised! We didn't have to plant these and we had several meals from the few we dug and will have several more in the future. Volunteer potato plants are AWESOME!

Thank you for all you do. The tatters I planted last year did the same thing. I live in Maine so the ground freezes pretty hard. I was amazed. This is just a thought, is there an area that you could plant tatters and just let them be you think? Kinda like a back up or a reserve seed bank? Just in case something messed up happens?

🥔🥔🥔 I bet these plants could survive winter in the south, because it doesn't get as cold down there. Even if the leaves freeze, the root system can grow more greens. You could plant them in the fall, and mulch them well, for an early spring crop. 🥔🥔🥔 Same with regular potatoes, just leave the little ones in the ground, as they come right back the next year. Heard that from a farmer.

the cool thing about potatoes is you can leave them in the ground year around if winter is bad just cover them in thick layer of straw and harvest thru out winter as needed. when harvesting take the largest potato put it back in the ground and cover back up. no need for a root cellar that way.. carrots can be done the same way only cut their tops off with inch or so of carrot still attached and stick back in the ground. they grow fingers and those just as good later too. in colder climates deeper the straw to keep them from freezing thats how the old timers did it with their root crops and no place to keep them thru the winter. good find i get potatoes every year from the ones i leave behind buy once and keep growing them.

This past summer, volunteering on homestead(NW Az high mtns)we had daily free range cattle coming thru devouring everything in their path. Nuisance is saying it lightly, very smart animals. I caged off, orchard, grapevines, etc...they literally took to destroying fence and eating trees to the point of a stick tree.

We bought a cleared cow pasture to create our homestead on, so we are planting trees, leaving a few brushy/bramble areas to encourage the deer into our place too. I was watching this video thinking, next year I’ll plant a big plot of kale too, and can cut and feed the cows and chickens. I DID grow purple hulls this year and they did good… the later maturing variety of cow peas I planted got hit bad with insect pressure…

Can't complain about this it is truly a blessing..especially with all that is headed our way for the winter and going into a new year we never KNOW what the world has in store for US the people and your blessing has you guys ready for it SO Thank The ALMIGHTY for these bleseings, send UP PRAISES to the Almighty GOD Of Isreal, Remember Joseph Jacob his brothers story in the scriptures, I'm reminded of this from the blessings you and your received with the crops of potatoes that you didn't expect, That story had lots of meaning To It, and protecting crops from famines...👉🏾 Joseph became the overseer of a vast amount of grain that would deliver Egypt and many other people from a future famine. This was the main purpose that God had for Joseph's life. He had absolute control over who would receive any grain that was stored up in Egypt.... This Blessing I'm Believe is for good purpose, God Bless you and your wife at Deep South Homestead...And I'm giving you two A BIG SALUTE 👍🏾💯...All PRAISES BE TO The Most High GOD YAH Of Isreal ONLY! All POWER AND THE GLORY BELONGS TO OUR PROTECTOR OUR SAVIOR... Remember Egypt, Remember Soddom & Gomorrah, Remember NOAH and the Flood...Yes The Almighty YAH was there to get us through it all and destroyed the infections in the world at those times He The Most High had to step in and handle things because we do not wrestle with flesh & blood and knowing this we Gods PEOPLE We need to have our God our CREATOR with us at all times, In Our comings and goings God should be with us, I mean everything that we do we want God Almighty involved and there with us, praying as much as we can...HALLELUYAH Praise Ye YAH..

I was thinking that maybe the life changing event took place, so that Wanda would know what to do if something happened to you. As I watched, I assumed Wanda knew how to feed the animal's, and had known how to work the tractor. Sometimes the Lord wants us to see the vulnerability of thinking we have tomorrow to learn. When my dad died back in 95, my mom remarried, and the guy was always in the garage, and my mom said that one day you will regret it. Momma said a lot of thing's like I do, knowing thing's before they happen. My stepdad was planning on retireing and doing stuff with her, but boom, dead in 4 day's from cancer, leaving him a wreck, full of guilt. No will, screwed us kid's out of our inheritence, our grandparents antiques, their house, and the one me and my dad and family built in the 80's, plus he had his mother's large property. Mom knew I was disabled, so does he, but says you have to watch out for yourself sometime. Moved some woman in the house 6 month's after momma died, because he couldn't take being there alone at night. I forgave him, but he will have to answer to the Lord. People have a will ready, and do what you want to do now. God bless everyone.

What a blessing! I'm about to harvest my pots and bags of potatoes here in Texas zone 8a for Christmas potatoes too! Only difference is I planted mine! Haha. I have been planting potatoes for Christmas harvest past 2 years and I noticed they do produce really well for a winter harvest. They are smaller and not as many but fresh potatoes in December is amazing and way worth it to me. I already harvested a couple pots and I'm so happy with what God blessed us with so I'm hopeful for the other 18 pots.
