At about 50 minutes, when you guys were talking about the bullet scenario, the commenter is actually right, he just forgot to mention that the bullet is fired horizontal to the ground. So if there are no obstacles, the bullet's drop due to gravity will ultimately cause it to hit the ground at the same time as the dropped bullet. I think Spite was thinking that the bullet is being fired at the ground. Right or wrong, it's still a funny comment by a physics nut getting upset that not everyone else understands physics as well as he does.
@benarcher45
@benarcher45 2 жыл бұрын
Isn't that physics exercise dependent on what type of bullet being fire is? Consider that a 9mm parabellum round doesn't have the same ballistic coefficient as a 6.5 Creedmore, which is made to go straighter for much further distance.
@colefetters7253
@colefetters7253 2 жыл бұрын
@@benarcher45 It isn't, the velocity and acceleration in the vertical direction is not dependent on the velocity and acceleration in the horizontal direction. The slope of the trajectory of the higher power bullet would be a lot shallower though because of the comparatively long distance traveled.

I'd like some clarification please. What do you mean bullet fired horizontally? So the bullet is dropped and the gun is fired straight ahead? How is that a proper comparison? Wouldn't the height it's dropped at matter there too? Yeah the fact he didn't mention it being horizontal/from a height definitely caused the confusion.
@irzekk
@irzekk 2 жыл бұрын
Nevermind, after reading tubs comment again it makes sense. If you were to fire a bullet straight ahead from, let's say, 1km high, and it hit the ground after 1 minute, then the dropped bullet would take the same amount of time from 1km high because gravity isn't being changed/opposed.

The mythbusters episode referenced is pretty old and at that moment in time motorcycle emissions standards were pretty new (motorcycles usually always lag automotive tech). Since then motorcycle emissions standards have caught up and are pretty comparable to cars overall with regard to non-GHG emissions. Bikes still hold a decent CO2 advantage when comparing against most cars though. Bikes also have much less pollution associated with their manufacturing (much less raw materials being used and processed).

Say that to me and my 2022 Chinese carbureted motorcycle.... I guess it has a catalytic converter, and air inlet valve on the exhaust to help it function but I highly doubt emissions are up to snuff considering it's not CARB(California air resource board) compliant still, at least it's enough for the EPA and the NTSB for national emissions but I digress, the standards are clearly still lower then cars by a good margin

My take on this emissions thing is this. When was the last time you were in a ten mile traffic jam made up of motorcycles? Idling is the most inefficient part of engine running. Air pollution is prevalent in cities. Because if traffic idles it’s polluting. Why do the manufacturers put the stop start feature on the engine. London doesn’t charge the congestion fee on bikes because they do not contribute significantly

The whole attack on personal ice use in general is a load of bullshit. Unregulated manufacturing (especially in China,) global shipping, airlines, and public transportation account for the overwhelming majority of emissions, and they act as if lithium mining isn't just as bad for the environment anyways, not to mention very difficult to dispose of. Passenger cars and bikes, especially the entuisast market is but a drop in the bucket, and will make literally no change in emissions. Enthusiasts are just bad optics with our loud exhausts and our turbochargers, they hate these symbols of "wastefullness" but as long as the emissions that are killing are out of sight, I guess they aren't real.

I thought she would be scared so I took it slow until she kept screaming "GO FASTER" behind me. Eventually getting to the point of getting our knees down. We definitely got some looks and I will say on the up hills the little 321cc P-Twin was screaming for it's life trying to hold 60mph in 3rd gear, by the time we got back to the bottom and topped off the gas to ride about 50 miles home I noticed the rear tire was more shredded than on any track day that little R3 had ever seen! but overall one of the fondest experiences I've had on a motorcycle and still can't shake having it on the leaning edge of confidence in the tires and hearing "FASTER FASTER" in ever corner.

Wow, the pillion part of the video makes me wonder if I'm just crazy!? I've ridden with my girlfriend, now fiancé, on the back of my 2007 Aprilia SR50 R Factory with a full Malossi race tune all over South West Ontario and all over Vancouver BC area. 3 years in Ontario with it and 1 year in BC with that one. I then found a bone stock 2014 Aprilia SR50 R Factory for sale in Victoria. We took the ferry over to get the bike from Victoria, brought our helmets with us thinking it would be fine to drive back to downtown Vancouver BC in January... Got there, popped my plate on and drove back the entire way 2-up on the highway at 4° Celsius in the rain. It was miserable and the driving portion took 4 hours. We were both pretty frozen but couldn't stop laughing the whole way because it was absolutely hilarious... Much like Dumb and Dumber when they reached Aspen (less the water sports)! I must be a bit nuts though as I also rode a 2007 Aprilia SR50 R Factory from Edmonton to Ontario in 5 days down the Trans Canada Highway... Again, it was miserable! 96 km/h top speed on a 110 km/h road for 700 km per day while camping out on the side of the road for about 4 hours of actual sleep per night, again, it was pouring rain and hailing for about 90% of our trip (with 2 friends each on a BWS 125). This was in May of 2008. It would be a great trip to do with something like a Gold Wing DCT Tour, no time limit to get it done in and staying in hotels every night and sleeping until you wake up on your own! This story is getting long but, I ride an '09 Aprilia Mana 850 with my fiance on the back all the time (she much prefers the car now that I finally have one and know how to drive, I only rode bikes and scooters for 19 years). Now that she sees how relaxing and easy it is to be a passenger in a car, she almost always prefers that. Happily, she has no interest in going on the back of my '14 MV Agusta Brutale 675! So, aside from riding in to work, I still have some alone time on the bike to drive a bit aggressively! 😀

They needa stop harassing people over their personal vehicles. Yamcast got it bang on about going after ships. I mean, manufacturing plants that require massive amounts of heat are the #1 cause, but just 15 giant cargo ships make as much pollution as ALL personal vehicles in the world combined, and there's *thousands* of those ships, because they don't have to follow any emissions regulations (you know, like the ones everyone else started following in the 60s). But we gotta go after people commuting to work because we NEED cheap foreign labor. It's unthinkable that each country produce as much as they can in their own countries to help prevent pollution, and that's not even getting into the science of climate debate, which still isn't settled.

Well... that 15 cargo ship factoid is misleading (if not outright false). That might have been true for Sulfur emissions because no, gasoline engines don't create significant sulfur emissions. However, the global fleet of personal cars creates about 4.5x the CO2 emissions of all international shipping (most of which is by ships). They're both important, but personal vehicles are a larger chunk of the pie.

I have a few points Currently i commute on my nt 650 deauville '98. Carbed. No cat whatsover(factory)and 5.5L/100km My car gets just as good mileage(1.6tdi), so that doesnt really make a lot less But gas prices are shooting up so badly, I dont wanna commute with anything powered by a combustion engine My company uses an electric moped for delivering food. I use it sometimes to get places. It just costs a fraction of what the motorcycle eould cost me

It’s all bout less emissions in cities. Governments are looking at banning internal combustion in cities by 2030. So I think they are looking at that as a new market opportunity. They generally register those ships in countries without emissions regulations.

funny how 2 up change the behave of the motorcycle, been on a ninja 636 as a 2nd with almlst 0 experience, the problem was that I weighed 110 kg at the time and the driver was 48 kg, so if I wasnt following what he was doing properly, the bike was not so willing to turn and so on 😂😂😂

Only time I had a pillion was when my girls car had a electronic power steering recall and my only vehicle was a 2014 R6. It was sketchy as hell given the bike was lowered front and rear and she's a THICCC girl. The combination of her size and how high she was with her lack of riding experience meant that no matter how light I was on the brakes she would come sliding forward slamming my sack against the tank no matter how hard I squeezed on the tank grips. NOT FUN, only did it out of necessity and will never have another pillion again.

The ballistics guy is right, but a little off. IN A VACCUUM a dropped bullet and a bullet fired from a gun will hit the ground at the same time as long as it is fired level to the ground. That changes when you factor in air because the bullet will create lift which will make the fired bullet hit after the dropped bullet, but even then the difference is so little its almost negligible.

To be fair didn't mythbusters also use like a 2 stroke engine and a very non-optimal bike as their guinea pig? I remember seeing that episode thinking it was a good topic. As I watched it, everything about that episode seemed cringe and suspect to me and not very representative of a 'real motorcycle' VS my daily driver (until 2 weeks ago when it was totaled, it was a 2019 Tracer 900 GT)

Ok so visually I’m not a fan of the exhaust on my 2021 MT-09 but it does sound really good and even pops in 2nd gear. So I really don’t care about changing it out. Yes I’d like something more visually appealing. I really don’t care about wanting more volume. I care more about upgrading the suspension because I am upwards of 300lbs. It feels fine as is but as it wears I’d rather just have something dampened above my weight so I don’t cause early wear and tear. I’d like to do steel braided brake lines and ebc pads. I’d also like to look into tuning for the abs as long as it doesn’t interfere with the rest of the imu which I think performs phenomenally. But that’s just my bike. I think other bikes can benefit from a louder exhaust. Just me personally it’s more about looks than sound. Even my 2020 Softail I’d like it more for the looks. I wouldn’t mind more volume but I’ve done exhausts on my Harley’s that aren’t much louder than stock. More changed the tone than the volume.

I did 2-up riding with my alcoholic ex who is a bit of a free spirit. I don’t think I will ever have a passenger again. Imagine riding and the person on the back thinks they’re at a rave. She would constantly lean the opposite direction in turns or go side to side. This was mostly with a Street Glide. But when I met her I had a Dyna and as someone who always rides alone and treats every stop light like a Christmas tree. As knowledgeable as I am about racing and physics. On this day I didn’t think about them at all. I told her hold tight as that light turned green and I dumped the clutch, we were very quickly staring at the sky. I brought it back down, and me being who I am when I almost die, I break out into hysterical laughter. She on the other hand was not amused as she punched me in the kidneys and called me every name in the urban dictionary. All I could say was “but did you die?” If you’re not dead just ride the adrenaline rush.

The reason Hondas have there reputation is not because they never do anything wrong. it is because when they found there is a problem they tracked it down and fixed it. Can't say the same for other companies like GM when the plastic rivet would fail on the ignition causing the cylinder to fall out while drive they did a cost benefit analysis for home many people would die and home much it will cost to fix.

Or how about small engine emissions? How many old dudes mow their lawn every other day or just have massive lawns that need regular mowing and also take up would-be forest land which is something that actually contributes to surface cooling? This stuff is going to just backfire on them as more people get sick of high gas prices and higher barriers to entry

Shooting a bullet vs dropping is they do fall at the same rate. The force of gravity and the air friction going down to the ground are exactly the same so they fall at the same speed. Outside forces like maybe you pushing the bullet down when you drop it would cause 1 to fall faster than the other. It be moved faster the free fall speed of the object. So the commenter is wrong about that it can't fall any faster. What you are thinking about is dropping a feather and a bowling ball on the moon (in the absence of air friction) fall at the same rate. Obviously that doesn't happen on Earth because of air friction.

@tscook10

Not typically. Hottest temperatures are going to be achieve at stoic, and without any air injected, the unburned fuel won't combust in the exhaust if it's running rich.
