Right to repair is a good thing for the end consumer. Especially when a product is out of warranty. Private repair shops will have access to dealer level diagnostic tools and parts. And provide a competitive repair cost.

Farmers run into this a lot with Tractors. John Deer and a few others have been fighting the release of the diagnostic information because they don't want Farmers fixing thier own stuff AFTER the warranty expires. They still want all the service fees and crap.

Honestly if it's anymore complicated than an oil change or bleeding brake lines I don't even want to attempt it because I use my bike as a commuter. if I decide to take the initiative and work on it when it's my day off and it isn't resolved before my work day I'm screwed; so I might as well take it to someone who knows wtf they're doing. Alot of people have a stigma around you not being mechanically inclined and I get it self sufficient owner and all that but at the same time if it's too much for me. Personally I'd better be safe than sorry.

Harley had been denying the warranty if owners had modified their newer bikes. Some people had complaints that even by installing Harleys own Screaming Eagle parts they had violated the emissions system therefore if there was engine damage, tough crap. This was on the Milwaukee 8 engine bikes.

Nah, the 1990's were the golden age. The decade started with the RC30 and ZR-7R, and ended with the R1 and R7. In the middle the had the Ducati 916, CBR900RR, RC45... just too many to count.

Re “downgrading”, I just added a DRZ400s to my BMW R1200GSA and Indian FTR, and I think if I had to keep just one bike it would be the DRZ (of course, this could be “latest bike syndrome”). It’s so basic, and fun, and basically OK to good at everything. It’s like a puppy dog. It helps that I’m not a total speed demon, but I agree that shifting a lot more adds to the fun. I also love the super light weight (compared to my other steeds). Can’t wait to get the Seat Concepts saddle on. That will help!

Hey Guys... love these Yamcasts! So not going to post links in your comments but there's a couple of yt vids test riding and reviewing a specific RE Interceptor 650 modded by Hitchcocks Motorcycles. They've installed S&S Cycle's 865cc big bore conversion kit which takes the standard 78mm bore to 90mm and raises compression from 9.5:1 to 11:1. They've also added a stage 2 performance camshaft, new exhaust with intake filter, and power commander to deal with ECU. The bike now has a max power of 65 at 6,000 RPM with max torque of 62 at about 4,500 RPM produced on rear wheel dyno which seems quite impressive. Hitchcocks has the 865cc kit in raw form for sale as well as bolt on version they've created already fitted into set of cylinders with machined cylinder barrels and matched pistons. The latter altho at a more premium cost, makes upgrading exceptionally easier for the beginner motorcycle diy'er wrencher. They also stock performance clutch kits for RE 650's as well for better clutch feel, bite, and longevity, especially when upgrading the engines power. Anyway, there's so much aftermarket support for the RE 650's now and accessories galore! I'd really love to see you guys install some cool mods to the give away Interceptor and fix a few of it's weak points too.

This was the biggest bummer of an episode, hearing about emissions regulations and the models that the Japanese manufacturers are cancelling. I understand the need to move away from gasoline ICE, but Electric vehicles are so depressing. I wish that we would continue to explore hydrogen fuel then manufacturers have the option between a hydrogen ICE or fuel cells, and in either case, we can have similar infrastructure to our gasoline system, and we might still have engines that go boom.
@ViciousTheNeko
@ViciousTheNeko 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree here. I feel like if they stop making gas motorcycles then the majority of people will just stop riding and racing entirely in enough time. Electric is just so soulless and depressing I just don't think I could even consider spending any kind of real time playing with that kind of toy. No more revs no more noise more banging gears and dumping the clutch. No more bikes. IMHO.

Ditto the Ninja 400. I just bought a Z400 (naked Ninja) as my 4th bike - and I'm having a great time with it and learning a LOT. I am not afraid to push my boundaries on it (though I'm still very conservative) like I am with my ADV bike. I really should have started with a small bike. The 400 is so much fun I don't even know if I'll sell it in a year or two like I'd planned. If you ever want a GoldWing they'll be out there. They're almost all owned by old farts, and they don't get abused, and 200K miles isn't crazy in them so they'll be trickling back onto the market used for many years to come.

I was thinking about "downgrading" from an FZ6 to an R7 because of the use-case of sport riding and track riding. After 7 courses on the FZ6 I said "fuck it!" and I just bought a 2009 R6r and within the week of buying it I went on a trackday with instructors. Best decision I have made so far. I don't know how long I'm going to keep the R6, but I have been bitten by the track-day on a supersport bug and I am even more hooked than before, if it's possible.

Harley is not saying if you modify the bike that the warranty is void, they are saying that if you take the bike to a motorcycle repair shop that is not a Harley-Davidson dealership, and even have them do regular maintenance, you void your warranty. And this is much worse.

Yamaha covers the bike if u have an ECU flash as far as I know. Yamaha also has an INSANE warranty. As long as you use Yamalube oil, and Yamaha filters. They cover the engine for like 20 years or 100k miles....that says a lot ! You can even do the maintenance yourself, you just have to save the receipts for the oil change process.

I agree with slowHD. My first bike was a 01 yamaha vstar 1100 and it was amazing but unfortunately due to personal conflicts I had to sell it. My next bike I plan on tracking down an Mt07. It's perfect for what kind of riding I want to do. I used to want an R7 until I sat on one. I love them but I think the Mt would be a better fit. I would also love a 2nd bike being a good ol Indian or Harley or possibly a super moto. Too many to decide. I'd love to have a big enough garage and collect them all like pokemon

Wanted to throw a different aspect into which way one might want to go with there next bike. 1. insurance cost 2. repair cost if and when you do go down. 3. With the bigger bikes comes the desire for more speed. The higher the speed the better your health insurance coverage should be. Your level of repairs to both your bike and body will become a factor the older you get. All great riders have wreck hundreds of times, can you afford what you ride beyond the bikes cost? i have had three big wrecks in 38 years, it will happen otherwise you wont grow as a rider.

To speak to upgrading and downgrading, I started by riding dirt bikes my whole life and I honestly never had any aspirations to ride street. Then one day I decided to say fuck it and buy my first street bike which was a Honda Fury. As much fun as it was I just wasn’t super into the cruiser style of bike and it felt boring and slow. I literally had the fury for 2 months then traded it in for a ‘21 Mt-07. The Mt-07 is a world of difference and just what I needed to have enough fun on the street without being something ridiculously fast and dangerous. Even though it sucks to not be able to keep up with my friends with the 09’s I’m perfectly happy with the decently quick 07. I plan on slapping a quick shifter on it and possibly doing an R6 front end swap so I can get a better fork on there to make it handle a little better. No plans to upgrade anytime in the near future. As a father of two small children, the last thing I need is something to make it that much easier to have too much fun on 😂 I do run into people every now and then that refer to it as a “little bike” but fuck em 😂

When I had a tao 150, after about three months I was looking at variator tuning, rear gears, and a 200cc crate engine, lmao.

I just made a huge "downgrade" by many people's standards. My 2018 Street Triple RS kept me in a constant state of worry and care about it, to the point where I gave up standard track days; of course not wanting to bin it. I sold it, made some money, pocketed much of it, and bought a 2021 Duke 390 for less than half what I paid for the Street Triple. Sure the power isn't there, but it's still a bike I can be proud to own, the build quality seems fantastic, and the tech is nice. I think I'll always find myself coming back to small, lightweight, and cheap bikes. The carefree experience of ownership is very rewarding. Plus, imagine being a 600 squid and being passed on the outside by a Duke 390. The smallbore/thumper life is the one for me.

quick question - i own a royal enfield (27hp) as my starter , if i wanted to upgrade my bike ,let's say a street triple(121hp). is it safe for me to get any 600 class or go to basics like ktm 390?

I'd say go for a 650ish naked bike and then to the street triple. You'll get more power without going full send.

I am really considering getting a Suzuki TU 250 to have next to my 83 GSX 750ES and 89 BMW K100 RS bikes. Just to have a light chilled out bike to bob on. I have no idea if it is a downgrade or sidegrade

i mean it is a chilled out modern classic retro 250 cruiser that seems rare on the street at least here in Scandinavia so it fits my hipster mentality! only downside is that i still have to pay like 5000$ for it because that is just what stuff costs here.

I don't understand why emissions for bikes matters more than emissions for electricity production

It’ll be interesting to see how these changes impact the market. For example will the gold wing getting axed maybe make the maxi scooter market take off here in the states? I’m in my early 40s I’ve see some of my older friends getting into big scooters. I wouldn’t mind seeing that. Higher displacement scoots are pretty cool Imo. Would love the stereotype of the 50cc liqourcycle to go away and see more people riding 150-400cc scooters. I don’t get the emissions stuff being so tight with motorcycles though. Sometimes it’s just laughably counterproductive. Like Suzuki not updating the drz because of emissions laws being so tight when they could update the bike to be a little better emissions wise but they don’t specifically because of emissions laws. I think they should focus more on cars and trucks than bikes on this stuff. Some of the right to repair stuff gets a bit too crazy. I totally get not wanting untrained people getting into major engine work but most of the mods Im comfortable doing myself; Slip on exhaust, throttle tube swap, tail tiddy, slight brake pad upgrade, Stuff like that should not void your warranty

"RE Shotgun 650, I wonder what platform it would be" The same as Interceptor. I mean, Royal Enfield just spit out 3 bikes in 350 platform just fine.

People who don't flog their wheels for resale value are like the guy not doing his wife so she's tighter for the next guy. I crushed the rear subframe and ripped the footpegs out of the frame a few weeks after buying my KLR. I bought a new 4x4 and had it less than 6 months before I rolled it the first time.

I want to downgrade my 2009 BMW F650GS (800) to a 1973 350cc Bultaco Alpina. Love the simplicity and zing of a two-stroke engine. More fun too!
