About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK and Escape to rural France to restore this beautiful building to its former glory.

Gosh. Jonathan isn't a little kid anymore. He's big enough to be a real help. I cannot imagine how achy you must all be after moving tons of gravel for days in a row. What a team! But knowing this garden will be there long after we are gone is so inspiring.

We are still looking at the gravel we need to move, My back twinges just thinking about it. But we have managed to get most of the veg planted out today. You must be so thankful of having wonderful families to come over and help. I bet you have all enjoyed being together and seeing it coming together. We'll done. X

By the end, I’d be loading the wheelbarrows up til the tires squatted & I could barely lift it so I could make less trips. 😂 So glad you got the digger, but you should keep an eye out for a 4-wheeler or side by side & a dump cart. That investment will be so well worth it. You’d use it for all kinds of things. We had a small barn w/ animals in the woods(Pennsylvania, US) We used our 4-wheeler with a dump cart to haul everything from feed, compost, soil, stone, limbs, tools etc. Idk what you call them, maybe “quad”? Looks like you have farmers around you. I’d watch for “for sale” postings from them. If they’re anything like our farmers, they need to upgrade equipment often & are always selling something.

Ok guys, I know this is about back breaking labor! I talked my BIL & sis for us to do the labor of laying base in their backyard. I know! Luckily they didn’t have a large yard, but oh me oh my! Whether you shovel it in the wheelbarrow or rake it. We took turns and my BIL made us take often breaks. Luckily their whole back yard is shaded so that helped. So I know how hard that is! We did it again at my nieces house to add around her house over gutters. And also her driveway, with less people then. So you all are amazing for that size area! 🙌🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I would like to see little wooden plaques nestled amongst the flowers… Grahams Grove, Paula’s patio, Tracey’s terrace, etc etc, lovely way to pay homage to all their hard work ❤ 15:56

My goodness you’ve all done an amazing job, but ooooh, that really has been backbreaking work 😓 you should all be incredibly proud of yourselves! Gosh! I can’t believe how grown up Johnathan is getting, what he’s a handsome young man he is, well done to you all. With lots of love, and big hugs to you all. From Aberdeenshire 🤗xxx

That’ll a neat trick with the balusters. Not everyone will know what lies beneath the layers of gravel. If I wasn’t already as excited as I can be Ash’s enthusiasm would be contagious. It is wonderful to see the fruits of one’s hard labor. The aerial shots are terrific. The best way for us to measure progress.

The aerial views of the garden are so exciting and I LOVE the idea of putting the sundial at the center! Can't help but wonder as well how many miles you have put on those wheelbarrows??? So fun to watch!

I'm amazed at the transformation! It's actually taking shape. Obviously, it will take years to get the plants all in and developed to achieve the final vision, but just to see the pattern of the beds must be really rewarding after all that back-breaking work! I'm impressed that you did all that work in one day! And living here in Florida, where we're already into summer's heat and humidity, I'm a bit envious that it's still cool enough there for you to be able to wear a jacket outside!
