If you think that those 15" gravel wheel/tire brakes are impressive, try the humongous stoppers that car uses behind the 18" tarmac wheels on the gumball semi-slicks they use for those road surfaces!! 😉

I like to play EA WRC and Dirt Rally video games, and I get to "experience" driving a range of vehicles from classic H-pattern rally cars to modern junior rally cars to the fastest modern AWD hybrid rally cars with sequential gearing. Listening to you talk about some of the intricacies of driving the R5, especially the shifting, it sounds like these rally sims miss out of details, for better or for worse.

I would love a rally sim that had that level of detail. I think we'd need a full simulation of drivetrain components to really get there though. Beam NG is a start, but it's still a very simple model.

A Rally2 (R5 successor) will have more chance to appear in the States than full blown Rally1 will ever be right now. Though that being said, a Rally2 is roughly the same speed as older WR Cars from the 00s so it's still plenty quick.

The R5 Fiestas (at least the Mk7.5 versions) were based off of Fiesta STs, whereas the WRC/Rally 1 class cars were based off of the base Fiesta, naturally aspirated, 1.6 cars.

M-Sport Ford based their Rally1 car (or at least the outer shell of it) from the Puma Crossover. Rally2 and lower is based on the Fiesta. Though sadly the road going Fiesta has been discontinued now.

Ive heard that you are supposed to shift a sequential with as much force as possible to reduce wear on the transmission

You have to be intentional with the shift and get your hand back off the shifter. It will sense your hand on the shifter and start to engage the sequence of events. That is where you can really start to damage componets if you don't immediately shift up or down.

Start saving your thousands (pennies just will not cut it!) now to be able to get into one of these rockets in the future! It's a shame these things run >$250K new, before any spares and consumables (but yes, a bit lower for used examples, usually with said spares, wheels, etc.). But in reality, the next step up (leapfrogging a still FWD R2C/Rally 4 car) would be a Rally 3 Fiesta. Same width and similar power to your ST (no huge flairs/widebody), but full Reiger suspension, Sadev sequential, and AWD for ~$100K new before spares, and of course much less than that used (IF you can find a used one for sale). 😉
