We DROVE 2,000 MILES for RECORDS!! | Record Store Day 2019 Documentary
For the full list of all the records seen here, click the description below!
We traveled 2,000 miles to share in and document what it's like to be a part of Record Store Day, 2019. I began my vinyl re-birth at Luna Records in Franklin, TN, so it was only fitting that Luna be the site of Kristi's first ever RSD.

As you dig for rare cuts and acetate albums, I am always reminded of DJ Shadow in the movie Scratch that most of those people who are not well known, used to have music careers at one time and its the music store that keeps them alive and their music going.

This was my first RSD as well. Visited a few stores in San Antonio. I have been collecting original pressings or near original. Found Bonnie Raitt Give it Up and The Cars first album. Next year will make plans to do a RSD road trip. Enjoyed the documentary. Great job guys!

This episode really epitomised the spirit of RSD and reinforced to me why I will continue to attend them when and where I'm able. Like many music lovers, RSD has and will always be about supporting the independent music stores and ensuring they survive as well as hopefully keeping vinyl alive. As always, keep up the superb work. :-)

I lately bought a vintage Dual 1209 but had only one double-LP that I bought because I wanted the CD that came with it , so I was in need of some food for it ... bought around 10 LP's, but mostly stuff I never heard before ( and some because of the cover only )and it was a total win-win situation for me: Experiencing great new music and be blown away from the great sound of that old turntable & the Yamaha CR-800 receiver!

I have a good excuse for not visiting a music shop on RSD, I got married the same day! I know people over here in the UK were queueing from 7pm the night before, outside local music shops. I would have liked a copy of Grafitti Soul by Simple Minds, but it was actually in the recent 2001-2014 box set released end of last year, which I bought before RSD.

I had to miss out on RSD because I was busy in the morning and then in London in the evening to see one of my favourite bands from the 90's on the last date of their comeback tour. It was 100% worth it because they were fantastic and I got to pick up their new album on limited edition cream coloured vinyl.

Interesting to see how RSD varies across the country. In Brooklyn we have sidewalks full of 25-cent bins (usually disco singles or cheap funk/soul and jazz LPs), kegs on kegs, and a rotation of local DJs. It's a good time but it would probably get flagged on KZbin for drugs and behavioral misconduct. Thanks for the quality upload as always. Cheers, S.

I used to look for picture disks back in the day at my local town hall record fare in Middlesbrough North east England..i had a Philips all in one but separate stack hifi with a turntable on top I got for my 18th birthday, never had the best sound but at the time I loved it. the cd player had a wolfson dac built in and I used to plug my headphones straight into the cd player for the improved sound quality, my cd player got 5 stars in what hifi at the time. I always thought that the drums sounded better with vinyl though!

It was the 10th RSD in The Netherlands and my 9th, really sad I saw a few things that didn't get released over here. Every year I promise myself to put money apart so I can buy everything, yet it never works out haha, glad I got a single from my favorite Dutch band and Madonna! Sad I couldn't get Duran Duran though, the store I went to only had one and the first customer bought it, I arrived at 7.45 while the store opened at 8 and was the 30th in line so was able to get a lot on my list. :)

love it when i see younger people buying vinyl in stores just like the young girl with the def leppard album, just the joy that is gained from finding something you have been looking for can be brilliantly uplifting, that joy isn't the same for digital music. one of kurt cobains reasons for deppresion was not being able to shop for vinyl treasures he said that himself.

I saw you give Bingo Handjob a quizzical look. Did that make it home with you? There's an interesting story behind that LP. REM were challenged in England by the Thatcherites, so they made the codename Bingo Handjob to tour in London. The portraits and names on the back being false is a reference to the Travelling Wilburys album where they have codenamed portraits. Sanitized for your protection (the wrapper around the lp) is a poke at the censors. Like most live sets, this was pretty heavily bootlegged, so the innersleeves being black and white paper with a setlist reflect that. So basically we get some early live REM with an antiauthoritarian backstory. I can dig it. Grabbed the Johnny Thunder and Art Ensemble of Chicago myself. So good. Great vid :)

I have since learned all about Bingo Handjob and feel like such an idiot. I knew there was an REM album for RSD, however, like a dumbass, I went looking for a record marked REM. So when I see Bingo Handjob and recognize two songs on the back, I don't however put the pieces together and leave without it. So dumb.

I'm always surprised to see people waiting in line for a RSD First release. It is going to get a general release later.

Maybe, but why wait for Star Wars tix, or iPhone, PlayStation etc? You participate in what you’re passionate about. Thanks for watching!

Rsd first are usually on a special colored vinyl vs the later on standard black. No matter the argument on what’s better that’s a big reason why

Man, just a few years they'd put out really rad rare/live/demo releases from indie bands and labels for RSD, now it's all novelty stuff or represses for boomers 😂

Wonder how many just put the rare stuff they bought on ebay directly after? Yes, I am aware such toxic people exist in every hobby, still it's anoying ...

What is this record store day thing? Is it an American thing? How is Record Store Day different from any other day at the your local record store?
@andrewrobinsonreviews

Record labels/bands release special issues, re-releases, never before released records, etc. It's the one day that you might be able to pick up a record that is truly one in a million,

I wish that even 5% percent of the customers cared about audio quality but I am skeptical 😭. This would have been a great opportunity for audio companies to demo their gear and convert new people. A young coworker of mine told me she was into Lp and that she just bought a great Victrola system. I asked herif she liked the way it sounded and she said it was great. I said awesome, how can I tell her that there are way better stuff out there.

I agree, more AV companies NEED TO SUPPORT days like this. To my knowledge the only companies in the specialty AV space that truly lent their name to this event was Kanto Audio, Crosley and a few others. Why Sony (which has a record label ), Samsung etc. don't is beyond me.
