I want to say thanks to you both GV and Sue. I am housebound and haven't left my house in over 8 years. I used to love looking around cemeteries and graveyards to remember the forgotten but since an accident I've been unable to do so. You take me on walks every day, I listen to everything you say, look at the graves you show us and feel sadness when I see how neglected some are. But I also listen to the birds, see the trees and clouds. It means a lot, thank you ❤

You are brave, intelligent, respectful, in your work. Here in the US things are all so much 'newer' by comparison, but also more 'clinical' as it were. Simple burials with coffins seem to be the norm, in our area. You are showing us a different culture's traditions and practicies, and this is much appreciated!

I honestly think you and Sue should invest in a rubber dinghy for situations like this, or even a row boat!! That way, you can float through any flooded cemeteries/graveyards safely and with ease!! 🛶🤔🤔🤣🤣 On a serious note, it's sad to see this graveyard in such a sorry situation!! Churches and local authorities should plan VERY carefully exactly WHERE they situate cemeteries and graveyards to prevent situations like this!! I wonder whether the church/local authority will do SOMETHING to remedy the situation before it gets any worse!! Thanks for sharing this place with us, GV!! XXXX 👍💞🤗💕👏❤

It is sad to see that all those graves are just being left to fall and sink like that. You would think there would be some sort of "body corporate" to take care of them, but as you said GV, the 2 sides of life, the rich get the good ones and the poor are just left to "fend" for themselves, so to speak. But still a good looking graveyard. Thanks for the tour. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers from a cold, dreary day here in Sydney Australia

It is so sad to see the state of this cemetery……..Unfortunately I don’t think they can do anything until all of the water dries up, think I would be illegal to pump them out for obvious reasons. But I would hope they have a plan, God forbid heavy rain come again soon!! Then after all is dried out, maybe they could start some type of restoration of the toppled and collapsing graves. But that take a lot of $$$, so I guess we will have to wait and see. Thanks GV and SS!!!! Love from Long Island NY! 🪬🩷🧿🪦🧿🩷🪬

One very famous churchyard in England is Haworth in West Yorkshire, where the Bronte sisters of literary fame lived at the parsonage with their father Patrick, who was Irish. The churchyard lies between the church and the parsonage, and it drained very poorly. During their lifetimes, the remains of the dead contaminated the drinking water supply for the village and caused the deaths of many people. Thankfully, with better understanding of public health nowadays we avoid using boggy places for burials, but I think flooding may be an issue in a quite lot of country churchyards. An interesting comment about the rich and poor, and actually quite a lot of graves are completely unmarked because even the simplest of headstones were always very expensive.

Thumbs up for you pair, but definitely a thumbs down for the planners & designers of this graveyard & church! What sort of freakin fools would place a church & graveyard near a darn swamp? As far as I thought I knew, churches were always placed on higher ground weren't they? This place is ridiculous. I can't help but wonder the $$ of these old graveyards. When my grandma got buried there was a fee for the plot (it was prepaid by my grandparents years in advance) but what $$ is incoming if there are no/few burials. Could be a spring system got diverted and maybe peat is under there holding the water? It's kinda neat actually, maybe some ducks will show up if it spreads into a nice pond. Sometimes ashes to ashes dust to dust can become dust to water. Nature you know. And why are there only 3-4 burials in that huge vault?
