After viewing this episode, I awoke this morning thinking about you and Serenity Sue and the multitude of things about your work that continues to foster such fascination. For me, and foremost, with every abandoned churchyard or gravesite I am invariably led to looking deeper into the profound well of Eternity. Although my faith substantiates the yearning hope that there is, in fact, a continuation of some recognizable element(s) of the present self, it is, nevertheless, clear that from this side, where “moth and thief doth corrupt,” there is decay and disintegration and eventual oblivion. The epitaphs, like the one read in this episode, in which we see ourselves in the human struggle that Shakespeare described as strutting and fretting our hour upon the stage to then be heard no more. I want to commend you and Sue for braving the elements and bringing us these excellent episodes that beckons us to face that door through which we must all pass.

What a Lovely old cemetery and church. Thank You Kindly! The yellow flowers there are like ones here in Pennsylvania that were blooming a few weeks ago. This south east area of Lancaster County was settled by Scotch, Irish and English. My GGGGrandparents moved here from Ireland in 1815. He was born in county Antrim in 1772 his name Shanks. I have both their photographs that were taken in the late 1850s. It’s truly a gift to have their photos being born in the 1700s. We are blessed to have them. The township names here are Drummer, Colerain, Donegal, Little Brittian and others. So seeing those yellow flowers, the name I forget, perhaps they came from there to here, as I don’t believe they are native to this area. Thank You Again and Many Blessings! I Very Much Appreciate your videos and in honoring our Ancestors! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania

I took a holiday in Ireland, some 16 years ago now and I remember finding such places on Hook Peninsula and en route. I couldn't resist getting out of the car and looking around. Most had headstones within the churches, and like the ones I am seeing here, no roofs, glassless windows and lots of overgrown areas. It was beautiful in it's own way and I could hear the waves lapping in the background, birdsong etc...I felt comforted by the whole experience and then suddenly felt very uneasy and made a dash for the car!. My mother always said that if people didn't hurt you in life then were not likely to hurt in death, I tried to think along those lines but was glad to drive off. It inspired a painting actually, I will drag it from the back of the cupboard and email it to you one day. Lovely videos by the way😊

I really appreciate what you're sharing with us all. This particular graveyard is one of my favs since it's a 1700's one. It might sound odd but it was BEAUTIFUL ! even with the abandonment & decay. I particularly liked the living tree growing within the walls of the old church. Awesome! *A message to the viewers (at the time I watched this the # was 523 viewers & only 170 thumbs up) The 'thumbs up' icon is located just below the word mausoleum. Beautiful grave yard.inside the old church was stunning especially with the tree in the arch. The open mausoleum’s looked like they had been desecrated. The nameplates were all in a pile, whilst all the coffins were smashed and scattered. The other looked freshly raked and dug over (maybe looking for skulls or jewellery or even bits of lead. Seems a shame that the graveyard has been left like this. Thank you for closing the mausoleum doors. Great video as always 🪦🔦

The ground was also pretty uneven!! Please be careful when you go exploring in the old grave yards, GV and Sue!!😰😰🙏🙏 I'm sure the statue at the door of the church was part of a grave ornament!!🤔🤔 The names on the wall also included those benefactors who donated generously to the church over the years!!💶💶 Thanks for yet another TOP NOTCH video, Cathal!! Great video. These structures are amazing. Was that a coffin scrapping mess in the one with various name plates in it? What were they taking? Brass? I see no reason to tear coffins apart. If it were natural, the plaques wouldn't have been in the same spot. This is one of the oldest cemeteries I have ever seen. Some of the mounds look older than the 17-1800's graves. When buildings go back to nature, they are pretty old. No telling how old the church is. Love this. Thank You for taking us along. I am very into ancient places and structures and these are just as exciting to me as the famous places. Maybe even more.

Hello Cathal! How nice my first time back you are visiting a church in my name sake! Thankyou! At first I thought how nice and tidy it all looked, but I was genuinely shocked to see so many mausoleums broken into and smashed beyond recognition. I didn’t see any sculls, just a few rib bones in one of them, but in view of the number of old intact coffins you have see in previous mausoleums, these were trashed, and I felt very sad for the poor folk who thought that they had gone to their final resting places with other family members. I counted five coffin plaques on the floor, one dated only late 1800’s, so that sickened me. To think there are people quite happy to break in these places..no respect….well I just hope they fall and break their legs or even necks! In one of the dangerous holes you managed to bypass. It’s really dangerous walking round there. Anyway…a quick mention of “a possible EVP” and I say possible. At 22.54 you had just read the grave stone of John Ryan, and as you moved to the left, at the time I’ve mentioned I thought I heard a voice say something. I tried finding out why no grave stones within the Wrought iron graves…I looked up, and read that up to the 18th century you didn’t have to have a grave stone, as oral tradition, passed down told you who was buried there. The wrought iron grave surrounds are quite famous for being built in Ireland, and especially in Cork area where two exceptionally skilled smiths would make them, leaving a family message in some of the metalwork There is a picture of one, all made with the flat metal bandings that went round the outside rims of carts, Of which this a farmer prided himself in being wealthy enough to have more than two.. Also the wrought iron surrounds were not just to keep animals and robbers out, but to keep the spirits of the deceased in, so they didn’t follow the family home again.! Lastly, I have to tell you a true story written by an undertaker…he said a man came to him, wanting to bury his deceased brother, who had passed away at the local hospital. He didn’t want to be dressed up, in a suit or anything like that, but wanted to be buried wearing this hospital gown, opened at the back, while his face was straight down in the pillow. His brother asked whatever do you want to be like that for? His brother replied “ any of the little “B……..gs “ want to dig me up and open my coffin! Well, they can Kiss My A--!”. Sorry Cathal…but it amused me, and I thought I might the you,,Sue and the rest of the GV gang! Love and light! Helen 👩‍🦳👏👏💐🫶💕🥰XXXXX

Your comments regarding the fenced-in grave with no tombstone got me thinking. I am in the western US and the same thing is common in old cemeteries here too... where someone was buried long ago and an elaborate iron fence was put around the grave, but absolutely no other marker whatsoever is left to indicate who is buried there 🤷‍♀... I have often wondered if perhaps the family couldn't afford both the fence and a tombstone, so they decided to pay for just the fence with the intention of someday placing a stone marker, but then never did. Or perhaps there was a wooden grave marker that has long since fallen over and completely rotted away. I have seen old photographs of cemeteries taken in the past, and the only way anyone could tell nowadays where some of the graves were is by matching up the trees in the old pictures with the trees that are still alive, because the wooden grave markers were completely gone. Anyway, just sharing my thoughts... great video, as always ☘

The more of your videos i see the more im enthralled. Its good to know that when these beautiful places and graves have gone completely, someone cared enough to record them so that will never be forgotton. Thats the kind of place i could sit in at peace for hours. Obviously people haven't been as respectful as they should be, you can tell by the rubbish theyve left behind. So sad. They forget that one day it will be them lying there. Or somewhere similar. Think they'd expect a bit of respect themselves. Such a shame people dont stop to think nowadays like they used to.

There's an enduring lesson here. If you want your remains to rest in eternal peace, make sure your body is buried deep in the ground. The finest mausoleum will crumble away in time. But what does it really matter? Once we are gone, what is left is no more than an old coat we wore while we were here.

Hi GV Steve from England. Lovely place nature rules again. I imagine the tombs and the mosalium were robbed and vandalised. Loved the church with the tree growing up. Marvellous video GV.

It's one thing to find an open mausoleum, but it's a sadness to see that vandals disturbed the coffins, breaking them up. I don't understand their mentality.

That inscription was beautiful! 1700s I hope they preserve that. It is history! Too many holes. Be careful you and Sue! ( although I think Sue wanted you to go down to look at some of the mausoleum holes😂). Beautiful grave yard! Thanks 😊

@ 25:00 your saying something a bought no inscription, but they did a lot of work to put up the iron fence. The stone that has the inscription is most likely fallen over and is under the leaves. Or its a flat slab laying just under the leaves or dirt.

What a beautiful old cemetery. Amazing how nature takes back and has such beauty. So very sad why do people vandalise the disrespect is infuriating. God bless you and Sue for braving this could be so dangerous guys. But you are our eyes and feet 🤗🙏🏻 without you both we would not be so blessed to visit all these amazing places.

I love these videos you do. Such beautiful peaceful places, even in the state some of them are in. I don't find them creepy at all, just peaceful serene final resting places for all those souls from many generations ago. Thank you for visiting these places and sharing them with us. Take care 🙂
