It’s always nice when breaking your Jeep does not involve it being completely disabled in the woods.

I'm running carbon axles with G2 5.13s. Great price and warranty for the axles. Bounced around Moab twice and all over AZ with 37s on steel wheels, no issues. Very happy with axles and gears. Northridge 4x4 is an excellent way to relieve your wallet of money. I've probably put a few employees kids thru college.

So new gears went in and you immediately hit the road towing. So much for break in procedure. Steady speed dragging a trailer, both of which are bad news for fresh installs per Yukon.

When you break something in the rear that still allows you to roll, just remove the rear driveshaft and put the vehicle in four wheel drive (front wheel drive in this case).

Sorry about that axle; for what i've seen the streets and highways of L.A. are pretty chaotic and crowded, so drive with care, carry a gun... and be safe guys. That mini lake looked great, but i hate the mountain water, it's cold as hell; if you ever come to the N of Spain go to 'Los Picos de Europa', i think you'll like it. I'm still waiting for a hoddie with a front zipper and the logo on the back now that the summer it's here. Keep having fun guys and be safe on the road!

It hasn't been very long since you installed a turbo on your motor and the drive train is feeling the extra pressure, it is time to beef up the rear axle to absorb the power and take the abuse you give it on the trails. The threads are twisted on the axle shows that rear end can't take the power you are sending to the rear wheels. I put a posi in my Jeep Grand Cherokee when the rear end gears were making noise and I love a posi in any vehicle. I am glad you weren't stranded on the road with a broken axle, good luck.

Sorry to hear about the broken axle, but it was only a matter of time. Factory axles and housings are great for normal driving and lite to med wheeling. As soon as you go up in tire size and gears, they will fail in time. I went from stock 30frt/35c-clip rr axles on my YJ after many years of med to hard wheeling running 36" IROKs, after breaking both axles in one day, I upgraded to Currie ROCKJOCK III 1-ton axles frt & rr on 39 1/2 IROKs and have to say the axles are my last concern now as far breaking goes. Yes they are pricey but well worth it. In case you are wondering how much they cost. My front axle came to $10,815 not counting install. The rear axle came in at $5,473 not counting install. The basic order specs are below. Other than the YJ mounting pads, these axles would work great on your broken StepChild. Someone needs to setup a Go Fund Me site for you two. As always, love the video and happy trails. It would have been caused by the Lockers. When both tires are spinning and one suddenly catches, all of the torque transmits to the opposite side. That's why the damage was concentrated on the right-side. The heavy tires on the right were spinning and the left wanted to keep going but it couldn't because of the ground. The right side still had centripetal inertia. I think that normally just spiral fractures the axle shaft or shatter's the gearing. Looks like you got a little bit of both.
@merczeph79
@merczeph79 5 жыл бұрын
All that could happen with an open diff, even more likely since when one tire spins, with an open diff, it goes twice as fast as when you have a locker. Then when it grabs it's even more likely to break shit. Lockers are better 90% of the time offroad

Have hard hard wheeled my 89 YJ for years, have to press new axle bearings on every 3 to 6 months from the abuse, if you let them get worn you'll bend or break shafts and mess up your gears, something along with your hubs you should be checkin before every good beating you're gonna dish out, and after before the ride home hah Look forward to seein ya what got next

I broke 2 teeth off in Daytona (Spring Break 1990) Drove it for a week around town and then drove it home to Texas. Don't be gassing on it and peddle it (break and gas pedals. Don't let your gears slow you down) letting your gears do the work will end up breaking off the other teeth.

@ronstobaugh
@ronstobaugh 5 жыл бұрын
The "bent Flange" is sometimes bent from leverage, and sometimes (often) from twisting the shaft, not just the splines. As the shaft deforms past its limit, it pulls the flange in. Both give you the same symptom, without scribing the shaft when new, no way to be sure which is the culprit.

No surprise here! D60S and maybe 80? 40s coming? We all knew this was coming. I've been talking about this jump for a while. One of the guys in our club just did 60s and 40s on a brand new JL. Just a reality if wanting to do wheeling at that level. Safe travels give a call when in So. Cal. we can go wheeling to Big Bear. Add some Badge of honors to your list. OlllllllO

All you need to do to get to california is have them pull the Ring gear and drive in front wheel drive to California, that way you won't hear that clacking sound all the way to Cali.

i was on Dynatrac website they got JL rear Axles 60 front and 80 rear combo set was $18,600. the 60/60 was under 17,000. since you got a front you might get them to send you a rear. and for you guys you need a Dana 80 maybe you can't break it.

Mike Robbins all mud terrains will start to wear unevenly on a solid axle vehicle. Best thing you can do is rotate them often. You should get about 30k miles from them. Use LITEBRITE code at Northridge 4x4 for a discount on the tires if you like. They are great tires. You will love them.

Nice! went with 5.13 on my old jeep tj. You know you been together too long when you both say ahhh at the same time and sound the same. Why does kevin look like a smooth ass maverick wearing sunglasses? I am half expecting highway to the danger zone music to break out :-)

If the rear fails completely, can you pull the rear drive shaft and drive home in 4wd using the front axle for power?
@yzfr1owner

No, cause the axle will still drive the carrier gear into the pinion gear.
