If you think it took you roughly 120 hours of work and say you saved even 5000 dollars in labor, that comes out to 40 bucks an hour and you know it’s done right! Worth it in my opinion and is the same reason I want to do my own.

Our bathroom duct is in the wall just above our floor trim. We have a decorative register.

That was the original plan but the only wall available for it landed right on top of a floor joist ☹️

I love this, I remember getting quotes to extend duct stuff and was shocked, when I moved my utility closet and then priced out tools and material (Menards online and hvavsupply) I could barely get anything around Seattle as a consumer. I think I got quoted 5k+ (inferior ductboards) and I spent maybe 1k and a lot (a lot a lot) of time as you know making it perfect with all sheet metal.

That's awesome, good on you for taking on the project! Work on houses is not easy, but on most projects it will save you a ton. Plus you learned something and gained some satisfaction in the process

Beautiful job. Will you be doing the drywall yourself? That will be another huge job.
@MasonDixonAcres2 ай бұрын
Heckkkk no 😆 the only DIY drywall is hanging the utility ceiling, finishing the 1/4 of it above the duct trunks, and hanging the downstairs bath. Just because of sequencing really. The whole house is about 275 sheets total, so to hang and finish all that (well) would take us literally years 😂
@generessler62822 ай бұрын
@@MasonDixonAcres Heh. I've known folks to hang it themselves then hire a pro to skim-coat, sand and prep for paint. 🤑 Just sayin' ...

Very nice. I personally never use 30 ga. for anything it’s just not heavy enough IMHO
@MasonDixonAcres2 ай бұрын
I also prefer a min of 28ga, the trunk and riser is all 26 and 28. But I found it can be hard to get certain boots in less than 30, or it's crazy expensive and just not worth it

watching this i really understand the motivation to install mini splits.. my house has lots of flex duct.. cannot be cleaned.. pita
@MasonDixonAcres2 ай бұрын
Mini splits are great if you don't mind the look, which in our garage area is perfect. I don't think I'd do a whole new construciton build with them when you have the opportunity to install ductwork, as they don't mix the air as well in a large room compared to supplies and returns
@timolson70052 ай бұрын
@@MasonDixonAcres i was thinking vs paying somebody to do the duct work.. that is real money.

I've read a lot of mixed bag reactions online about insulating with double bubble wrap and the actual R-value/insulation value. Do you feel like that's helping? Considering doing it when I rip up my basement...
@MasonDixonAcres2 ай бұрын
I do think it helps, especially as a secondary air seal (especially on the return where there's negative pressure to suck it tight to the ductwork) and it prevents the formation of condensation

Do you live in Alaska as it seems like you're always dressed for cold weather. 😊
