Hello Ryan, many thanks for your valuable content -- and for answering my 'hair light' question the other day on John Barker's Here To Record show. :-) Per that livestream, I've pre-ordered the BirdDog Play for a new Zoom Room. I have a spare MacBook to run the Zoom Room, iPad for configuration. Also upgrading my network managed switch so that I can get link aggregation which I think will be better than Speedify. ISP giving me consistent 950 Mbps down, 35 Mbps up which I believe is adequate. I recall reading that NDI also requires mDNS, but I believe that is only for auto-discovery of NDI sources. Hope I'm not missing anything! I saw that the Pearl includes NDI support -- I have an ATEM Mini Extreme ISO which is (to my evolving understanding) why I need the BirdDog Play. I also have a networked Midas MR18 mixer, but hope the audio capability of the ATEM will be sufficient for EQ, compressor, etc. (Curtis Judd has a good video on this). I also recall hearing that you use a separate mixer -- is there a particular 'must have' feature of that route? Trying to find the fulcrum between that and just using the ATEM. All the best and much appreciation!

Hey Hardy, Thanks for watching! Yeah the BirdDog Play looks like a great piece of kit! im keen for one myself. I havent looked into the spec for NDI with regards to Networking but it works pretty much out of the box with any network (obviously there is stuff that can be done to help optimise) but so long as you are on the same V-Lan you should be ok. I split all my audio to analog so i have full control and can route audio wherever i want (I have a video on my audio routing and Mix minus here if that helps, kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKHGoH9rga6mqa8 . But if you are happy with mixing in the atem the audio will be embedded so will be able to mix that internally super easy. for me the external mixer just helps with mix minusing and having full control of audio routing but if you arent bringing in guests and are doing simple mixes you might not need it.

I'm hoping this had changed, but if there's 3 outputs per Zoom room that's a host, then we can't chain Zoom Rooms for 3, 6, or 9 NDI Outputs, correct?

Does the zoom room PC and the PC running OBS need to be in the same room/network? I have my zoom room pc in another location with NDI active, however my OBS (different location) is not detecting the NDI signal.

they will need to be on the same network/Vlan. NDI basically only runs through a network, not over internet or accross vlans

Thank you so much Ryan! This is way better than using Skype's NDI integration to OBS to Zoom. Only one doubt. With the free version of Zoom Rooms i can only see 3 NDI output sources: do you know if i'll be able to add more than 3 with the subscription? I run webinars with 4-5 or more guests so this could be a real mess..
@RyanSomerfield3 жыл бұрын
I was unaware that there was a free option?? But from what I’ve seen it’s only 3 which you probably wouldn’t want much more on a single machine anyways. What we have done before is just added multiple zoom rooms, 1 per 3 guests which works totally fine, as long as your network can support that many ndi feeds

Cheers for that vid pal, I've learned a lot going through so many "best ways" of recording some videos for later broadcast (2 person interview in different locations). As you mention, Skype and Teams have terrible audio (combined mono), AND they both add ugly watermarks in the corner of the screen when using NDI. On the other hand, even the free zoom allows 2 seperate audio sources from my testing, but Zoom rooms is needed for the NDI function. (By the way, I read that "HD video (1080p) will only be activated for selective use cases such as large-format broadcast events.", and "Full high-definition 1080p video is limited to Business and Enterprise plans." - but you probably know this by now.) One question: do all the participants to your meeting need Zoom rooms subscriptions? Or just the host?
@RyanSomerfield Жыл бұрын
just the host which is good, although id highly recommend looking into zoomiso 2 now, which is what i am using, its super awesome! although looks like it might be still mono?? kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4WrfH-Zjcl0jJI

@@RyanSomerfield I'm in a different realm to you. I've spent about 7 days trying to get a simple set up to work, ideally without headphones. I simply want someone to interview me while they're sat in another city (both in Vietnam). The trouble I'm having is echo, using VDO.ninja/ Electron capture/ OBS / Skype / Zoom and now Vegas Stream. Vegas Stream can export the project to Vegas Pro of course, and tomorrow I'll try and set it up with a virtual camera output, carrying my local video and audio, and send it to my partners laptop. She will use VDO.ninja to get her feed to me, and maybe OBS to connect them together. Wish me luck!

Question - using the same setup as you going into OBS. And using mixer output for microphones into OBS as a USB Audio Capture Device. The problem we are having, is that when the NDI source is added from Zoom, the mixer output then also feeds into the NDI Source 1 Audio slightly delayed. We get audio from the mixer in both the Audio Capture Device channel and the NDI Source 1 channel. Not sure where this is coming from - seems that Zoom is feeding it back through the NDI output along with the selected conference member's audio. We have only one NDI source selected in Zoom. The OBS computer uses the Virtual Webcam to send output to the Zoom client to the person on the other end. Anyone have any suggestions?
@RyanSomerfield2 жыл бұрын
I read through your question a few times and am still a bit confused about your setup.. are you trying to route an iso feed back into the same call? Cause that will definitely cause feedback. Is there a reason you aren’t doing the mix minus in the mixer rather than obs? Should give you more control if so, I’ve got a video on mix minus which might help? But correct me if I’m wrong, just confused about the signal chain..

@@RyanSomerfield Hi. Thanks for the reply. Will try to make it clearer and if you have a better way that will be great. Have mic(s) going into the mixer, and mixer into OBS via USB. Shows up in OBS as USB Audio Capture. Now when we add the NDI feed from Zoom Conf Room we have a second input for the Zoom NDI Audio. The issue is that now the output from the mixer shows up in both the USB Audio input and the Zoom NDI input, slightly delayed. This happens with no audio input from the Zoom Conf computer into the mixer, only Zoom NDI into OBS. Don't know why this is happening. Using this method we have to have the NDI Input active to receive the Zoom audio into OBS. If we then use Mix-Minus and receive the OBS output back into the mixer so we can hear the zoom room member, we then have a delay making it impossible to talk due to hearing our own voice back delayed in the monitoring headphones. If this was solved and only the Zoom audio was in the Zoom NDI Audio input, then we could use something like virtual cable, Sunflower, etc. to only send the input from Zoom back to the Mix-Minus so that we can hear the Zoom Room member and not hear our own delayed mic back from OBS. To work around this, we routed Zoom NDI video into OBS and muted the audio. We then cabled the audio from the Zoom Conf computer to the mixer to hear the Zoom Room Member. This way we can monitor all audio from the mixer directly without any delays. The mixer is also sending the mic audio back to the Zoom Room computer to the other end of the Zoom meeting. We have set Zoom on that computer to receive audio from an external mic. We have also tried opening a Zoom client on the OBS computer to use OBS virtual Camera to send it's output to Zoom. But the situation of the mixer audio being present in the Zoom NDI Audio input is still present which makes this solution non workable also. Having used other NDI sources, we never ran into having the USB Audio input "bleed" into the NDI Audio Input. I can turn the USB Audio input off in OBS and all audio from the mixer still comes in through the Zoom NDI Audio input. The Zoom NDI feed should only be giving us the video and audio from that one Zoom guest that was selected in the Control app. And we do only have one Zoom guest selected to output NDI. This can be confusing trying to read about it without seeing it. If there is some format I could send you a drawing or screenshots. Thanks again.

@@KT-hx2ul if you are trying to mix video and audio of a guest who is in the zoom call of the broadcast you are broadcasting to this is not possible. All you will do is create double audio of the guest for the other guests to hear. The way I do this is if there is a guest I want to mix in I bring them into the audio mixer and video mixer, mix them in but don’t send that audio to the zoom call again, since guest A will be heard by you as well as the other guests on the call directly. So what I do is send the guest picture and audio to the record but then change the spotlight or turn off spotlight in the zoom call so the other guests will see they’re feed pop up like they usually would. The issue here is that zoom will treat it like any other zoom call, what needs to happen is the guest A audio and video needs to go in discreetly to the production. So if you have a Back channel for contributors this is how you can achieve this (separate from the broadcast call) of course masking sure you’re sending mix minus to that contributor call. Hope that makes sense

@@RyanSomerfield Hi Ryan. Really appreciate your responses. My issue is different. In the simplest terms, have one Zoom NDI input into OBS. Also have one mixer Audio Capture input into OBS via USB. The problem is, the mixer audio also comes in through the Zoom NDI input along with the USB Audio Capture input. This gives us double audio with an Echo since the NDI input is slightly behind the USB Audio input. The Zoom NDI feed is correct and only comes into OBS through the correct Zoom NDI Input. The question is, why is the mixer coming in the Zoom NDI input? (All of the other info was related to work-arounds - this issue happens with only the two feeds above connected. Not related to mix-minus, we have that on and have the USB return channel off.) Using a Rodecast mixer using USB audio, and one computer running Zoom Rooms Conference. The mixer is not connect to that computer in any way. They both feed into another computer running OBS - mixer via USB only and the Zoom Rooms computer via NDI only. NDI Output in OBS is off. No other NDI programs are running. Don't know why the mixer is also coming in the NDI input in OBS. That is the problem. Thanks again.
