What I really love about Onepagerules: It seems super simple in the beginning and when you first encounter the system, especially when you come from a Warhammer-mindset, you asume that the game is quite boring because your options and special stuff is so limited. BUT I think that the fact that the rules are so simple enable both players to really focus their brain power on maneuvers and tactical decisions, instead of desperately trying to remember all the stuff your units are capable of. I think it comes really down to details, and most OPR games I play are very close until the very end, which makes it a fun game to me. Of course it is not for everyone, but since you probably already have the models, there is really no harm in trying it, it is quite complementary even if your "main system" remains a different game.
@beatmarvonverseburg940327 күн бұрын
Dont forget about the advanced rules. Once you have enough basic games in you can increase the amount of actions available, add command points or change the way points are calculated!

@rikowolfin4984Ай бұрын
The thing I LOVE about OPR is that because of the rotating activation you never have a really unfun moment of having half your army getting shot off the board before ever getting to do anything with them like in 40k, it also keeps both sides constantly engaged with the battle as you have to plan things out as things happen rather then just looking over the end result of your opponents entire turn making it almost like a chess match where you move units to counter enemy units. 40k is amazing but unfortunately the amount of rules in it makes it hard for casual players to get into and also can result in some games practically ending by turn 2 which doesn't feel fun for the side that lost due to a extremely bad turn where they did nothing but watch as their models all get killed while they don't get the chance to fight back. I hope you guys do more OPR's in the future and maybe even stat your own personal armies for a completely unique battle report.

40k is complicated enough with weird enough rules interactions and changes to confuse casuals while managing to remove most of the flavour like lore inspired rules, making units feel unique and making vehicles play like vehicles. OPR doesn't have all the flavour that i'd want in a wargame, but it's easier to hombrew that in and it's actually streamlined as a trade off. I'd like a more complicated wargame but 40k is more complicated in a way that doesn't actually make it more fun.

40K is not amazing. Its been a bad/mediocre game for as long as I can remember....(26 years since I first learned about 40k...) Can anyone really get through a 3 hour battle report without dying of boredom?

Cool stuff. I recently got back into wargaming with OPR after having not played anything but a single game of 10th Edition 40K when that first launched. I dove headfirst into Grimdark Future a few weeks ago and its been a blast. Really my friends and I are treating it like Warhammer OPR Edition, as we still use all our 40k models and banter about lore and stuff while we play. The game just plays super well and that allows us to just focus on having fun and that's all I really what at the end of the day. The patreon is amazing value, I've spent hours in the custom unit maker alone. Think a unit for your faction needs more spice? Make it! Don't see a faction that fits your style? Make it! The potential is limitless and I dont see myself playing anything else for a LONG time.

OPR is GREAT. Our group switched over 3 years ago - I started 40k during FIRST edition (played 1st, 3nd, 5th - 7th). LOVE 40k's background and figs, HATE the rules. OPR has a great algorithm and balance.

@beatmarvonverseburg940327 күн бұрын
@@Kruziik The balance is easy to proof. While other rulebooks pull point costs out of their A**, OPR has an algorithm, that puts point values to amount of attacks, range, special skills and so on. And they are not just additive, but a higher quality unit with more attacks get exponentially more expensive. This algorithm is used to create the Armybooks. If they rebalance something they adjust values in the algorithm which automatically changes the point values in all army books, even the community created ones.

One page rules put out such great systems. Between the easy to understand rules, the accessibility of it all and the free army builder with built-in community support there's no reason not to get on board. Finally being miniature agnostic it doesn't matter what version of 40k , Warhammer Fantasy, Mantic etc your minis come from or how old they are you can still play so easily.

My group however - we kind of all retired from 40k during covid - and the few of us left are getting into OPR. We just got burned out of having to buy new books and models due to codex power creep - and love that OPR games are fast, and while some rules are streamlines - the alternative activation really adds a lot of depth in choices. LOVE THE SPACE DINOSAURS!!!!! Side note: Next time - play with 40k minis - so folks understand the rules are designed for minis from other popular games. (All of the 40k factions have rules in OPR + several additional ones). Lets see some Cadians (Human Defense force in opr) go up against some matt's alien hives!!! (tyranids). Of if you want to use more OPR minis - use Elf Fleets (eldar) for one of them. thanks again for the video - might be time to start watching MWG battlereports again!!!

As far as what armies I want to see, deep hives by oshounaminis are a STL line made for the alien hives rules that I really love. It's a mostly crustacean army with lots of giant crabs and lobsters with a few other types of ocean life like jellyfish and a nautilus. My favourite model is the centipede queen which is like a cross between a centipede and a giant shrimp. The models are really fun and easy to paint and have a really nice bit of body horror. I have over 4000 points of them painted up now and i'd love to introduce more people to them.

26:22 I think for self-repair (and regen) you do have to roll multiple dice with deadly. Deadly multiplies wounds, and regen/self-repair triggers when you suffer wounds. IE taking 1 wound with deadly(3), multiplies into 3. Making you take 3 regen rolls I could be wrong though, feel free to correct me. Hope this helps! LOVE OPR and Grimdark future! looking forward to more battle reports Self-Repair: When taking a wound, roll one die. On a 6+ it is ignored. Regeneration: When taking a wound, roll one die. On a 5+ it is ignored. Deadly(X): Assign each wound to one model, and multiply it by X. Hits from Deadly must be resolved first, and these wounds don’t carry over to other models if the original target is killed.

Love OPR. Using their army design rules I was converting my Dust miniature collection (yes, my assumptions about translating stuff over) into OPR, since DUST 47 strays far away from the original. Going down a small rabbit hole, DUST has gone the way of GW, but originally it was a fast fun game using grid movement, but many wanted a more traditional tabletop. The fans were working out some basic common conventions (which I used in my OPR conversion) to translate "Range X" from squares to inches. Of course, Fantasy Flight (in consultation with DUST Studios) hired a GW codex writer and came out with DUST Tactics. A decent game, cleaner than 40k, but much more complicated that DUST. Since then it is going down the GW road, increasing complications, slowing down play and neglecting balance. IMO, among the many things to praise OPR for is their commitment to translating unit stats to points cost so that you don't get the ongoing problems with points vs. model effectiveness that 40k has always been plagued by, since despite GW's claims, there is obviously little objective points calculations. I'll note that I think this is because 40k has evolved long ago past the Rogue Trader trifecta of Marine S4/T4, Ork S3/T4, Guard S3/T3 basis. It really needs a conversion to something simpler or a rewrite to provide more granularity (which would need an entire rebalance, but since you cannot rebalance easily if you have no objective points costs...). I mean to keep it simply, you have a current Imperial power ranking of Custodes > Thunder Warriors > Space Marines > Guard, which is being badly managed on the tabletop. Don't get to play OPR, since it is mainly just a few of us and only one other real tabletop guy, who happens to love 1K Sons and OPR a few years back just doesn't cut it in replicating the feel of them.

Great game! You might want to read the line of sight rules again though, as all models block line of sight for other units. Even other friendly units block your line of sight, no matter the size etc. A couple of times in this game units shot/cast spells through other friendly units, which in RAW isn't allowed. And fatigue only affects melee combat! A fatigued unit can still shoot without the penalty :)

For something fairly specific I'd love to see some Age of Fantasy matchups, there's some really cool armies in AoF that I'd love to see like Volcanic Dwarves vs Duchies of Vinci or something. Less specific though is I'd love to see just more of these but show off the community content, community made army books and community made models like the ultra-gritty work of Bestiarum Miniatures or the ultra-cute work of Marchen Atelier or the wonderful reimaginings that Stationforge or Ghamuk design. Dont even have to be big fights, 750-1000 point skirmishes would be cool, but I think showing off how big and welcoming this community is and how it's encouraged at it's very core to be creative would be a really cool thing to see.
