Excellent video. I’d love for OPR to get more attention, since rules bloat in games like kill team and 40k is a real obstacle to having a ‘fun’ game, and having a streamlined ruleset that you can set up and play through quickly is a real asset to the mini wargaming hobby. New players should be steered toward OnePageRules, because if nothing else they can spend their money on models rather than books.

I know this an old comment, but the rules kinda ubloated, try playing rogue trader or 2 edition and you will see wtf I'm talking about. The added complexity of CP stratagems, relics and traits its nowhere near the complexity of early vehicle rules, IA for robotic units and rpg like list building, old to hit rule and AP was also much harder for new players to grasp even if they were familiar with ADND absurd tables. 4th edition and later 9th strealined A LOT. The only real boat on modern 40k is the ammount of books. But who the hell even buy those actually I know for a fact the majority of casuals pirate it.

one tip - you don't have to roto your minis if you just drop a solid colored card stock behind them. pick a color that doesn't appear on the model. then you can just key the mini out. at some point, just remove the card for video or just take another shot without the card and you can get a clean, roto-free way of doing your underlays. cool vid.

My friends and I have fallen at the first hurdle with KT18, and just can't get into the rules; this OPR ruleset looks very easy to pick up and start chucking dice with, simple to learn and mod. Yeeeeees I love this game, it's so fun, feels a lot like KT2018 but faster and more streamlined and definitely better written. But definitely the table was too small and favored charging into melee with those 12" ranges. The full rulebook suggests that when using anything smaller than the standard 4x4 board you should halve all ranges, both for movement and shooting. What I would suggest though is that you should try an incursion sized table with 44x30, maybe that will give shooting teams more breathing room.
@TheEr9102 жыл бұрын
The movement rules are similar to Kill Team 2018, but removes the random roles for advancing and charging. That does make melee way more deadly.
@pedrobastos81322 жыл бұрын
@@TheEr910 indeed it does. I too have tried out this game on a Kill Team sized board, both with the halved ranges and without them, and using full ranges on such a small table definitely makes the game way too deadly: matches would often end up on turn 3 or even 2 depending on how well players were rolling. I Still need to test 44x30 because 48x48 is just way too much IMO.
@GFNGaming2 жыл бұрын
Oh interesting! that definintely would've been good for the BB's like especially with the biker, cheers for the suggestion. I do fancy giving the larger scale grimdark Future a go.
@pedrobastos81322 жыл бұрын
@@GFNGaming yeah, since the ruleset is so simple it is really easy to tinker with and add or change rules without the game falling apart. You should also try using Kill Team missions, KT2018 left us with a ton of cool narrative missions that are just so easy to translate into this ruleset, no modifications needed, just play them as is.
@earnestwanderer24712 жыл бұрын
It felt like the Brothers were way out classed in this battle. I thought it was balance issues, but I’d love to see the game replayed on either a 48x48 board, or with ranges halved to see if that was the problem.

@@GFNGaming I agree. While the current edition of 40k is pretty good as 40k goes (I’ve playing since the end of 2nd), it’s still a pretty archaic design so rules wise it’s the weakest of the games I play. @GFNGaming Жыл бұрын
i think thats it, to accomodate bikes. the current board size it recommends is just a tad too big to fit comfortably on a desk so id agree i think going in full clone and just using the standard KT board size is better for the game IMO but i mean i played it on this board and it worked so no issues just using whatever board you want.

@@Strill_ interesting drive.google.com/file/d/1X9yFNeN1447sP5tT5n-rW3TF2UYiXTcH/view?usp=drivesdk this is what I used from their website which is 1 swarm for 40pts and they just have 3 attacks, you looking at firefight right?

I keep seeing how one page rules is superior to the GW 40k game and I can't see how this is the case. Your battle report was entertaining but from my point of view this was a simplified version of Kill Team not 40k. I got to say I am not a big fan of Kill Team and much prefer bigger games than what I just watched. Even a 500 point 40k game is better than this. As for those KZbinrs reckon this game is superior to 40k, I rather think they don't know what 40k is. Just to be clear though, I acknowledge that your battle report was about a game and some fun, I did not take any comparisons from your report.

This is not OPR (one page rules) "40k" game, this is their "Killteam" game :P Grimdark Future: Firefight = Killteam Grimdark Future = WH40k So there is an army version of OPRs scifi game, but it is not the one showcased in this battle report. They offer a variety of games. These 2 already mentioned and then on top of that: Age of Fantasy (Age of sigmar equivalent), Age of Fantasy: Skirmish (equivalent to Warcry) and Age of Fantasy: Regiments (equivalent of the old Warhammer fantasy - a rank and flank style fantasy game)
