Slight correction. Most telepaths in the Marvel universe maintain telepathic shields to protect them from the thoughts and feelings of others. If they don't, they can go mad because over time, they lose track of which thoughts and feelings are their own. This is extra bad because an insane telepath can cause a lot of suffering for a lot of people. So Xavier maintains those shields unless he has a specific reason to lower them.

@Dayspring "art imitates life". Human storytelling is one giant allegory. If someone isn't relaying a historical event (or news report), you're looking at or reading an allegory one way or another. At the very least, the consumer turns it into one. And as far as j.r.r. Tolkien is concerned, the One Ring was the New Testament concept of sin, I don't care what he try to say afterward.
@One.Zero.One101 Жыл бұрын
@Dayspring People misinterpret Tolkien's allegory statement all the time. Tolkien hates obvious allegory like Aslan being Jesus in Narnia. You LITERALLY cannot write a story without allegory. Our stories are based on our experiences. Our characters are based on people we know. Even Tolkien's writings had allegory whether intentional or unintentional

"This Marvel, but *not* MCU?" It's *supposed* to all be in the same universe; it is in the comics... BUT, Marvel was close to bankruptcy in the 90's and to stay afloat they had to sell off the movie rights to some of their most popular characters. So Spiderman ended up at Sony, Hulk at Universal, X-Men and Daredevil landed at Fox. Fox started the X-Men franchise first out of all of those. (The *First* 90's Marvel movie was "Blade" which kicked off Marvel's road to recovery and eventually forming their own studio) HOWEVER (Slight spoiler) now that Disney has acquired both Marvel studios and Fox, there are plans to bring them all together. In the latest MCU movies and in the Deadpool movies, the idea of time travel enables branching, paralel universes is being utilized to bring the various seperate universes together, so you *will* see some of these characters eventually in MCU.

This is the beginning, and it was a great beginning. There are several substories and layers. For the time it was good. Wolverine was never much of a team player. For example, Magneto controls magnetic fields... so put a steel plate in your shoe he can lift you or fly.

I am kind of surprised you didn't recognize Sir Ian McKellen as Eric Lensher/Magneto...he was also Gandalf in 'Lord of the Rings'. Of the bad guys, the Brotherhood of Mutants, my favorite is Mystique (aka Blue Girl). In the initial films, she is played by Rebecca Romijn, a former supermodel turned actress. She is now on 'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' as Number One aka Commander Una Chin-Riley of the U.S.S. Enterprise. With 'X-Men: First Class', which takes place before these films...Mystique aka Raven Darkholme is played by Jennifer Lawrence...but Romijn made appearances as an older Raven. Before playing Wolverine, Hugh Jackman was in London in a major production of Rodger and Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!', which can be found on video. He played the lead, Curly, and sang "Oh, What A Beautiful Mornin'" among other songs. He has been Wolverine in 9 films total (one as a cameo, and one as archival footage included). He had, initially, hung up the claws with 'Logan' in 2017...but recently announced he will play Wolverine again in 'Deadpool 3'. Originally, Ryan Reynolds appeared in 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' as Wade Wilson...and that was his first Deadpool (but they did the character really odd at the end.). You haven't seen the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy yet...the actor playing Toad is Ray Park, who appears in 'Episode I - The Phantom Menace' as Darth Maul, who is awesome!!! The part of the fight with Storm, where he kicks the metal bar out of the elevator doors and twirls it...that is a very Darth Maul move! The streak of white in Rogue's hair is from the comics. She has always had it, and in the cartoon from the 90s, she had a huge amount of red hair and a streak of white. The actress playing Rogue is Anna Paquin, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Piano' when she was 11 years old (the second youngest Oscar winner in history and it was her film debut). She is also really well known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series 'True Blood'. Onscreen, Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier) and Sir Ian McKellan (Eric Lensher/Magneto) are enemies...OFFSCREEN, the two men have become the most amazing BFFs. They are both Shakespearean actors and legends in that field but they never worked together until this film. Their friendship is so close that when Stewart married his current wife, McKellen officiated.

Thing is, Marvel superheroes have always been shades of grey, with a lot of them being conflicted antiheroes (like Tony Stark/Iron Man, or Magneto, or Deadpool). For the longest time, DC was the universe of larger-than-life superheroes (like Superman or the Flash) in bright primary colour spandex costumes. Only with the modern "Man of Steel/Justice League" Snyderverse movies did DC suddenly turn all their heroes into brooding characters in nearly black costumes.

This movie is pretty much what spawned off a LOT of superhero movies which followed and ultimately led to creation of MCU. This was definitely a seminal movie in the pantheon of the superhero genre in movies. Rogue has that hairstyle because when she absorbed Magneto's powers it was THAT intense it caused her to have a stroke and that's what gave her the blonde hair in front. (It happens in real life, look it up). In the comics she always had that hair style, so this was a neat way of the movies giving her a reason why she has her hair like that. In my own mind, at least, it still rates as a really great superhero movie. Definitely see X-Men 2 next.... X-Men 3 didn't do so well at the box office and wasn't very well recieved, but if you're loving the franchise, you should still see it.

These are only technically Marvel movies. Remember that before I think it was _Captain America: The First Avenger_ Marvel didn't even exist as a studio. They didn't open up the film studio until after the first _Iron Man_ was finished. These are Fox films. I point this out because I feel it's kind of a disservice to rank these alongside MCU moves. They weren't made by the same people, they weren't made by the same company, and they weren't made with the same sensibilities. The same is true for the _Spider-Man_ and _Amazing Spider-Man_ movies, _Venom,_ at least the first _Deadpool,_ and so on. Still, I'm glad you guys liked this one. It's one of my favorites. The general consensus seems to rank the second one higher than the first, and I can see it, though I still prefer this one.

OK, to answer your questions: Yes, please do watch all of the XCU (X-Men Cinematic Universe), and I recommend doing it in release, rather than chronological, order. (Yes, like the MCU, there's a bit of "time travel" hijinks in the series). The XCU Release Order is: ° X-Men ° X2 ° X-Men: The Last Stand ° X-Men Origins: Wolverine ° X-Men: First Class (This is where the "time travel" comes in, and serves as both a prequel AND a "soft reboot" of the XCU) ° The Wolverine ° X-Men: Days of Future Past ° Deadpool ° X-Men: Apocalypse ° Logan ° Deadpool 2 ° X-Men: Dark Phoenix ° The New Mutants Pretty much, as the rights to these characters were owned by Fox Studios _(before_ Disney bought it), there's no connection between the MCU and the XCU (at least, until recently, when Disney acquired Fox, and thus the movie rights to these characters) As so your other questions, Storm, Magneto, (surprisingly, Iceman) and (eventually!) Marvel Girl are all what are known as "Omega-Level Mutants" (Omega Level Mutants are mutants whose dominant power is deemed to register, or reach, an undefinable upper limit of that power's specific classification.), so they are literally "off-the-charts" powerful (though there are - as with all great power - limitations are foundational to the powers themselves). Magneto ISN'T flying, he's using "magnetic levatation" (like bullet trains do) to "push off" against the surrounding magnetic material to move himself. Rogue was first introduced as a character in 1981, so I doubt that current hairstyle trends were influenced by her "skunk-stripe" hair (though it is a fundamental constant of the character). Hope this helps. :)

Further proof they had no clue who Wolverine was.

There’s no way Michael Jackson was ever considered for Xavier.
@shainewhite2781 Жыл бұрын
@@mikhar Yes he was! Lol! He even said in recent interviews that he was considered, but then opted for the role of Nightcrawler.
@mikhar Жыл бұрын
@@shainewhite2781 Hmm, summary search reveals that MJ auditioned for Xavier because he wanted to, no one pretends he had any chance of getting it. When did he play Nightcrawler? Also, ‘’recently’’ is kinda weird considering he died in 2009.

at first casting Hugh as wolverine was controversial and people were angry, because he doesnt look like comic book wolverine, but now, Hugh IS the wolverine.

When this movie was released, Fox owned the movie rights to X-Men and Fantastic 4. Sony owned Spider Man. All of these, plus all the Avengers, plus other characters (Blade, Morbius, Daredevil, …) are now owned by or, in the case of Spider-Man, at least available to Marvel Studios. In the comics, all of these characters came in and out of each other’s stories. Wanda (Scarlet Witch) is actually a Mutant and Magneto’s daughter.

Cerebro didnt detect Mystique just because Xavier wasn't looking for her. If he had looked for her, he would have found her. Magneto can fly cause he doesn't just control metal, but magnetism. So he can use the Earth's magnetic field to float. Also, Wolverine has higly improved senses, specially hearing and smelling, that's how he knew that wasnt the real Storm.

X-Men (Comics ) was created in 1963. This is an allegorical tale of The Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. Professor Charles Xavier represents Martin Luther King. He was the Pacifist , searching for a way for All Humans & Mutants alike to coexist and live in peace , away from persecution. Hoping that all could learn from one another and work towards a better Future for All. Erik Lenscher represents Malcolm X. Both wanting a world free from Violence against their own kind at the hands of Humans. However both (Erik/Malcom) had a very contrasting, Less Tolerant approach to the problem in comparison to Xavier/King.

In the X-Man universe, comics and animated series and movies, "mutants" have existed for millenia. The immortal Apocalypse was born in the time of the Pharaoh in Egypt. Not sure if there were mutants prior to him or if he was the first, as X-Men lore has been retconned and rewritten over the decades. Technically _every_ human on X-Men Earth has the "X-genes"! It's just that in the majority of the population, these genes are latent and inactive (the regulator genes that activate them might be damaged), but they can be activated artificially. And Deadpool is an example of a mutant created artificially by Weapon X project's gene-therapy... their scientists harvested Wolverine's genetic healing factor and inserted it in Deadpool. But even the non-powered mercenary Wade Wilson was unusually physically skilled and might have had some low-key abilities...

The hair is from the original comics. Work your way to X-Men:First Class. It will answer a lot of questions. And, First Class is one of the best X-Men movies.
