We FINALLY found a big bluegill bed and today we are going to be catching some to take home to cook! I was two days old when my Daddy took me fishing. Mama came along the first few times but when I hit two weeks old, he grabbed me up, got a bucket of diapers, clothes, blankets and formula and we fellas went to the lake. 👍 He would lay me on a blanket in the boat, put an umbrella over me to keep the sun from burning my skin and, while I kicked, cooed and played with my toes, he would fish and talk to me. We fished, hunted and just enjoyed those Louisiana swamps. We even did some squirrel hunting in Arkansas, (and fishing of course). Those were great days and now that I’m an old man, I have those memories.

When I was a kid we had a camp that set on a private 75-acre pond surrounded by cattle and grass banks on one side and cypress trees on the other. I can still remember being 11 years old and getting in a small kayak before my family woke up. I would sneak around the shallow cypress and find bream beds. I used a small 4' Ultralite rod and a beattle spin. I would catch more fish than I could count. I am 47 today and those memories are as clear as if I was 11 again. There is nothing like finding a good bream bed or white perch spawning and just load up on them. Our church used our camp as a place of meeting. We would load up in fish and have 50 people from the church come and have a fish fry. Those are some of the best memories I have ever had.

I taught my two girls and boy how to fish catching Bluegill in the spring. And Crappie. Up until a couple years ago I would catch them and fish fry on Memorial Day! And yes my adult children still fish!

we use to fish for bluegill in Wisconsin (daylight) around the docks at the lodge we stayed at every summer (owner a friend of the family) never left the docks without a bucket full of bluegill..................fun times for us kids...............got '''''hooked'''''' on fishing from those dock experiences. take your kids out and get them going on fishing, it is a lifetime of fun................healthy eating too.........................lol

A lot of fish are better tasting without the skin but bream, bluegill, and crappie are exceptions and the skin is excellent. Scaling takes a few more minutes but well worth it. I like to fry the tails on em because it's like a potato chip. Enjoyed watching the two of you catch the fish and I have to say that the quality of the film is excellent.

Cypress Bear gets cuter every time you put him on video. He has such big and bright brown eyes and is so alert and curious. Can't believe how fast you got fish with such a short time after casting. How many fish did you end up keeping? The two of you make a great team as you spur each other on.

Some years ago, my fishing buddy and I had been casting the banks for bluegill and were getting scattered bites so we decided to try something different. There was a nice point where the water was fairly deep, around 14' so we moved out off the point and just used 1/32oz plan jigs laced with a wax worm. We let it sink slowly and on some cast caught a fish on the way down. We caught 110 that day the 2nd week of July, came back 2 weeks later caught 97 and two weeks after that we caught 75 more around the middle of August. Deep water fishing off points in hot weather paid off for us. Right here in central Kentucky. You and Jay sure had a great day. Love your videos, sure brings back some fond memories. Mr. John
