9:31- I'm not sure whether the Native American woman guide (Sacajawea) for the Lewis and Clark Expedition actually got to see the Sacajawea Hot Springs named for her but it's about 150 miles from the Sacajawea Interpretive Center in Salmon, Idaho where her original tribe was located so it's likely she'd heard about it! You also weren't too far from Yellowstone Park where about half of ALL hot springs and geysers on Earth are located! Spectacular shots of the Idaho Rockies from that rather steep and slippery boulder field! Yeah, it's a question of when not if those boulders will have a landslide there! Great job, you two!

So glad Cody found his drone. My wife is an FAA Part 107 certified drone pilot and uses it commercially. She can identify with the issue he had. Though never crashed, it’s aggravating when the connection is lost. She just upgraded to a new drone and we hope all goes well. We are traveling in our truck camper from our home in north Texas and are currently north of Big Sur, California, heading up the coast to Cannon Beach, Oregon. I really want to see the Sawtooth Mountains someday! Safe travels and may God bless you both!

3:00 That's obviously the altitude. You need to be acclimated for about two weeks over 10,000 feet above sea level. Otherwise anyone will be huffing and puffing like that. 4:12 That's altitude sickness. I can see the vessels in his head popping out. Time to have a sit for a few minutes and maybe a swig of water. Looks like he must be at or above sea level - 10-11,000 feet probably there. You've gotta take it easy up that high.

I understand the challenge of recovering the drone. Personally, I would also consider the risk and the cost of failure requiring a trip to an ER and the time for recuperating from a devastating injury like a broken bone or dangerous head injury. Weighing the comparison of possible losses, in my case as an old fart, that drone would have stayed where it crashed!!! Some old man wisdom! Listen to Kellie more! Her intuition is always better than your best judgement. LOL (Note that old man wisdom is acquired by the application of poor judgement!)@@CodyandKellie

You two are killing me, but I have to thank you so much for sharing the Sawtooths. I was supposed to be there for about 10 days, but I had three 100 degree days between Coeur d' Alene and Stanley and the forecast was for more of the same! I couldn't take it so I cancelled my 1 night at Stanley RV Park, bagged trying to dry camp at Stanley Lake, and headed to Yellowstone early. Thank goodness it was much cooler there, as I knew it would be. So glad you hit it just right! I've been there many times, but never camped and I'm so disappointed. Thanks for sharing! So glad you safely made that hike. Scree scrambling is very dangerous. Good save of the drone!
@HoustonBrownPhotography Жыл бұрын
Cody, let me offer an explanation as to why the drone lost connection. I had that same drone and used it professionally so I've had quite a bit of experience with it. Those batteries, although not obvious will start to expand. Especially on the underbelly where the black is that goes face down in the drone. If that gets puffy, or feels puffy at all you should not use that battery. With that particular design, the battery, which can always get hot during flight, will expand and actually push it self out of the cradle there by disconnecting itself. The drone will just fall out of the sky. I suggest you check that particular battery and if there is any puffiness whatsoever when you push on that black area do not use that drone. Also, when you push the battery in it should be a good solid click. If it feels a bit soft, I guarantee it's because that battery is going bad. This is fairly common for all these tight batteries. Hope this helps.

What an adventure! That drone would be in time out! But, seriously, I was worried for you at times. That was quite a hike. The hot springs had to feel great after that hike to get the drone. Kellie, I love your shirt! Wow, isn't it great to be in the camper out of the weather? That is what I have always enjoyed abot the camper. I can cook outside if i want, but be cozy and dry in the camper in bad weather. Best of both worlds. I wish i could get your pressure cooker, but you told me it isn't available anymore 😢. Oh, our carbon monoxide detector woke us up one night, too. I googled it to know if we could go back to sleep. I went out and turned off the battery disconnect, lol. Happy camping 😊.

Just thinking of possible issues... Take your drone battery to Batteries Plus and see if they can rebuild it if it needs it. That helped me at work with a battery pack. Wrap a piece of tape around the drone to keep the battery pack from dropping out. It might still disconnect, but at least they will be together when you find them. We might start teasing about trained drone attacking Eagles.

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Good rule of thumb is to have 2 watts of solar for every amp hour of battery storage and you'll be pretty self sufficient for charging. So for 200Ah you'd want at least 400 watts of solar. That should keep you going without depleting your battery if you stay in one spot long enough (even if the sun isn't perfect). This is the first video I've watched of yours but I'll be watching more! 😁 That was an insane hike to find that drone! 😆
@markpirtle1096 Жыл бұрын
Hi Cody. I have many years of experience with that particular drone manufacturer. I found it odd that your drone did not return home when it lost connection. I think you said in the video that this has happened before, and your drone just hovers in place? One explanation might be in your settings. There are several options in the settings menu that determine how the drone reacts if it loses connection with the transmitter. One is that it will just hover in place. This is useful if flying from a moving object, like a boat. When the return to home location is set (usually the takeoff spot), the drone will return to that GPS coordinate and land. Well, if on a boat (which moves) the home point will not be where you took off from, and the drone will land in the water. When I am flying from my boat, this is the setting I use. In a normal situation, the default setting of returning to home and landing is fine. You might want to check this setting.
