As well as homesteading I also am a Dad and when me and Betsy found this awesome item we had to have it for our Daddy Daughter project!

We decided to trade our busy life as home and business owners to chase the dream we’ve harboured for 10years.
How did we get here
After years of saying one day, we finally realised that these opportunities don’t just land in your lap and if we seriously wanted to make a difference to the Earth then we were going to have to stop talking about it and do it!
We sold all our stuff, got rid of the mortgage, sold our camper conversion business and landed in a dream come true. After traveling in our van we settled here in the west of Ireland. A place that has always been special to us. Annie is half Irish and since we met 13 years ago and she took me to meet her family i fell in love with Ireland too.
Now we’ve made this dream a reality there is no stopping us! our plan is to work hard, meet new people and learn new skills that will guide us on our journey of permaculture and creating a way of life that sings to us. One where we aren’t bound to the banks, working every hour and outsourcing all of our needs. A simple way of life, with connection to ourselves, each other, the earth and our community.

I love that Annie drives the tractor. My son and brother (after watching me use the zero turn mower) refuse to let me on the tractor. Lol, so I wouldn’t help them plant the 700 corn and 700 pea plants which had to be done by hand. He’s using a woven plastic shield to keep down the weeds, so it has to be done by hand. I did plant the potatoes, squash, broccoli and cucumbers though. We have short winters here in Texas. Tomatoes and onions are all that I need to plant. On another note, I wondered if you were ready for the horses to be gone. While I love horses and grew up with them, they are a LOT of work and quite expensive. They can be fragile. Since our last ones died of old age, I have zero interest in getting more.

I’m definitely a lot happier with them off my work load as much as I loved having them around. I even have the kids driving the tractor from time to time :)

Lots of memories from childhood! My older brothers made these as kids from old prams and bikes. Great fun - in Scotland (Greenock) we called them 'Bogeys' - a bit like 'buggies', nothing to do with what's up one's nose! No brakes if I remember rightly! Lovely video as always! Kx😀

Note to others… sending a package to Ireland from UK was way more involved than we initially realised! I have now made the hi viz look like my old one already 😂 a chicken tractor is just a pen for keeping them in one place to prep a bit of ground. Kind of what we are doing with the pigs really. You can put them on veg beds and then you get the added benefit of chicken manure :)

Well done Bruce with the horses, I’ve had horses for 20 years and they are blooming hard work, but they have been well fed and looked after in your care, some horses are not so lucky, enjoy your extra time back..I’m a little bit jealous of that!

Bruce and family, I can not tell you how much I am looking forward to your vlogs each week! This looks like the dream life I would have loved to live as a kid! Working on living this life in about 2 years time. And I love animals but seeing you confirms my plan to not get animals until the first year of work is completed. I agree with you lovely subcribers (what a thoughtful gift, by the way!): just seeing you living this life gives me more valuable information than you willl ever know. What do you mean? These horses are native breeds. They aren’t stabled through the winter. They have so much more space here. I can assure you we are not cruel to our animals

@@OffGridBruce every animal needs some form of shelter a lean to something...and standing in water is horrible for their hoofs...a dry floor is needed for them periodically through the day...no one said anything about cold...wet is different..

That’s why they are track grazing at the moment to keep their feet dry. They have access to a huge bank of trees to shelter from the elements at the end of the field if they need it. Which they seldom do. I had them temporarily in the yard while we were setting that up and they had full access to a lean to shelter and they never used it. What do you think these native horses did before we domesticated them?
