Symonds Yat in the Wye Valley in Gloucestershire was always one of my favourites when I lived in Birmingham as it wasn't too far but felt like another world, nearby is the Puzzlewood which was used as a Star Wars location. The rooms and food at The Saracens Head were good in the past and if you don't fancy Kayaking down the rapids there is or at least was a river boat.

Saltburn is so lovely. All the East/North Yorkshire coastal villages and coves have a unique charm all of their own, the different layouts, the history, the beaches, etc. There's a nice, clear light up at Saltburn alongside friendly locals who take pride in their history. When I visit the seaside there you can smell the air in the train carriage turning slighy salty and very fresh as you start to hit the coast. Such a wonderful area. When we had a supposed 'fish crisis' on in the UK during the pandemic (roughly translates as LOnDoN! being unable to offer a small piece of cod for less than £30), you could travel up to Scarborough and get a full fish and chip meal at Taylor's cabin on the beach for about £14, including thick chips, peas and a drink. The battered fish was just shy of small shark size and hung off both sides of the plate. I ❤ the Yorkshire coast, it's uncomplicated and feels free. I'm glad you're having a great time. ❤🎉

So glad you found Saltburn! I more or less grew up in "marske by the sea" a neighboring small town on the same coastline , the walk from St Germains footpath in Marske down to the beach then on to Saltburn across the beach is great. Only 2 miles or so but the Fish and Chips taste all the better for the walk. My dad used to fish at the end of the pier, many times over night in the early 50s when he was a boy after the war. The pier was longer then and had shelters at the end so they could sleep in them and take cover if the weather came in. Saltburn is getting more popular and rightly so a hidden Gem indeed , thanks for posting great work !

It’s a lovely place is Saltburn and certainly less busy than Whitby a few miles down the coast. It’s possible to walk along the coast from Saltburn to Whitby, it’s part of the Cleveland way, though it is 21 miles, so anybody doing it in a day would be pretty shattered by the end. I love the Yorkshire coast, but I’m biased as I’m a Yorkshire man, but your reactions prove it’s not just us from Yorkshire who like it. Don’t know if you’ve ever been to Flamborough, don’t recall seeing it on any of your videos, but that’s just a fab place, one of my personal faves. Yeah - Saltburn is a gem - and you didn't even get to see the Valley Gardens or go for a walk on the Cliffs!! But it is lovely - a remarkably well preserved small Victorian seaside resort. Saltburn is nice, in contrast to some of the local areas which are less than elegant. It thrives but in a subdued kind of way. They make the effort to keep it traditional, clean and offer the basics without the tat! My Mother In Law was from the town and we spent many occasions there. Funnily enough we were in that fish restaurant for a sit down meal a couple of months back. The food is superb. Fish and Chips always seems to taste better the closer to the sea you get, I'm not sure why. Perhaps the fish is fresher but I suspect it's more to do with mood. All respect on going (or even hearing about) Saltburn - it really is very much a local day trip place and not widely known outside of North Yorkshire. I believe one of the local Teesside Industrialist families invested to try and develop a major resort there in Victorian times but for whatever reason it never happens and things like the pier and funicular railway are some the bits that built to try and support that.

To come clean, I have no idea whether or not I have been to Saltburn on sea. `Been all over the N E Coast, but can`t say I remember this place. That the Pier was opened in 1869 is not at all incredible, lol. Aldi opened a store near me about ten years ago and there`s no - or little - difference between the two. I like this chap`s T - shirts. To you, I didn`t quite catch the name of your dog, but am glad you brought him / her along with you. Believe it or not I once was aqcuainted with a chap ( through work ) who used to be in The 22nd Parachute Regiment : SAS. When he was growing old and frail he found that he could hardly cope with the dog with whom he shared his home, so had to decide to depart with him. After finding it a nice home and mourning its loss he woke up one morning to find his four legged friend `weeping / whining` through his letterbox. The only reason I know this is from when I asked him the name of his dog, which turned up to be called " Ah - Well !" ( one word ) I thought that this was such a super and unusual name for a dog and so asked him how he came by the name - and he told me that he`d found a new home for it but that it had found it`s place back to him, therefore " Ah - well !" ( `twas meant to be` the two of them together ). Bang on true story - and perhaps not the most amazing one I heard from that old Soldier, Mr Jickles.

100% yes to the 2p coin pusher/tipping point machines in the amusement arcade. Fun for all the family. Best fish and chips 'literally' on the Yorkshire coast? North Beach fish and chips, at the northern most end of North Marine promenade, Bridlington. The takeaway kiosk is 'literally' 9 steps up from the sandy beach. Close to a coffee & cake kiosk, an ice cream kiosk, clean public toilets and the land train platform for trips/walks along the headland to Sewerby Hall (mini zoo and gardens) or along the promenade, south into Bridlington. Ample, inexpensive parking at the headland car park off Limekiln Lane, Bridlington.

Lovely to see such open minded people who avoid the usual clichés of tourists to Britain. Have you been to where I live, the English lake district? If not I suggest you do whilst the sun is still shining and it doesn't go dark early.
