Jimmy, good on you. You made a very bold move with your family which many wouldn't even consider. Moving abroad is not easy, it's a social and cultural upheaval. But of course, there's upsides and downsides to all changes and decisions in life. You make your own luck. All the best to you and your family, mate.

Mate, I don't know how you came up on my KZbin feed but wow, that's a fantastic deal!!! Food for thought, I'm semi retired, my wife is retired, I still have a mortgage but its small. With the current rents in Perth, renting out our whare would easily pay the mortgage and fund what you guys are paying a week there??? very much food for thought? Can't go back to NZ, its more expensive then Aussie. Thanks again, I'll follow you now.

@@craigrik2699u will need to apply for the MMSH or Malaysia my second home visa if you are planning on long term stay. U will need medical insurance which will give you access to the local private hospitals. You can still get healthcare from the government run health care system and you will need to co pay a little if you are skimping so badly. But otherwise the private health insurance will enaure you get first world health services for literally nothing in co pay. Other than that there is no other hidden charges or surprises

By Australian standar, 250 a week is very cheap. But by Malaysian standard, it is pretty high end. I can see that. 2000++ sqf, wonderful view, many rooms, top notch community area. RM 3400 is a lot to pay for rent in Malaysia. Most Malaysians would not spend that much for rent as with that amount of money, they can easily pay for the mortgage if they were to purchase one on their own. I always prefer to stay in condo, especially when my kids were young. The main reasons are the facilities, pool and also the community. Like you said, we may not have the front and back yard, but the facilities that we enjoyed are far more better, especially for the kids.

Rm3400 for rental is too high for average malaysians, but for high income earners, like those earning rm10k and above it is affordable. For this condo i think it is quite reasonable tho i would have chosen something like a semi d house for that price

Very impressive. Lot of bang for your buck and so much room and what an amazing view. The pool looks immaculate, and I would think something like that near me in Aus would be $750 plus. Would love to see a street view, with you walking the local streets, just so we can see what else is around and what the streets look like and what shops there are. Also maybe a shopping experience where you go shopping at a supermarket and point out different things and their prices would be awesome. Have the local price and the equivalent Aus price so we have a better idea.

Good on ya for making a really bold move to migrate! It ain't easy. I did the opposite and moved from Malaysia to Australia for a better life (grass is always greener on the other side). Work life in Malaysia is terrible, so if you can find a way to live in Malaysia but work for an offshore company (or your own business), it's golden. I wouldn't recommend anyone to migrate to Malaysia and try to make a living there by working there

I lived in Australia for 8 years studying degree until PhD..my observation is thay is that all Australians and residents and students compete for the same single family housing. Wheb i was there half 60% of my scholarshup goes to renting room and the amoubt is enough to rent a nice condo in KL 😂. Apartments in Australua are very few relative to the housing stock even in Sydney and even there 2 room apartments in Paramatta the rent is $800/week. In Malaysia the housing is diverse catering to all income level. Low income can get subsidized public flat as low as RM125 per month kr buy low cost or medium cost housing with a 2-3 rooms that are below RM300k, middle and upper middle income can have condos or terrace/semi detach house from rm300k up to rm700k. Higher income earners can get single landed houses above rm1 million. All housing areas must have at least 20% of the housibg stock allocated for middle cost housing hence the property developed are forced to provide affordable housing in every property development even if they dont want to.

Well for $250 a week you may be able to get share accommodation in places like Blacktown (Sydney, Australia ) probably sharing with 3 to 4 others in the same condo or unit. 🏢You won’t get the sea view because the nearest beach 🏄‍♂ is at least 60 minutes’ drive from Blacktown. Even in places like Melbourne or Brisbane $250/week get you a share accommodation plus paying for utilities. Not only you got a better deal for the unit you also have far better quality of life in Penang. 👍

Beautiful apartment. Yes SEA especially malaysia is such great value. Just came back from a short trip there and always reminds me how expensive australia is. Things have gotten out of hand, but all because the costs to produce anything here is so expensive, the minimum wage in oz to start with. But then again, that is what makes oz so attractive to all the migrants moving here. Not surprisingly most of the migrants I work with here (oz) don't intend to stay in oz but are just here to make enough money and then move back to their homeland. Kind of like an expat lifestyle, but they are living as cheaply as possible here (sharing apartments with, say, another 2 families, etc). Congrats on making the move to SEA. I also have a couple of apartments in asia that I rent out, get a yield of about 5%, but that is because I bought early 2000s. Now the prices are crazy high to buy the yield has basically dropped to zero after paying strata fees, rates, etc. So for landlords in asia, we are just counting on capital gains. Enjoyed the video and am so happy for you guys. Your kids are so lucky. I hope you instill in them the same work hard, and you can do anything mentality, but be smart and use arbitrage to get ahead.

Hi…these vids have extremely piqued my interest…myself, my husband and our 12 yr old are English and have lived in the uk all our lives and have got to the point where we know we need to leave if we’re to give our daughter any sort of a future as the uk is so rapidly on the decline it’s frightening!! We have been seriously considering Australia, particularly Perth but after coming across your videos it’s defo thrown us a curveball. I wanted to ask is there a language barrier in Malaysia for us that only speak English and do you know what the job market is like? My husband is a 18+ year experienced bricklayer, working on commercial building at the moment here in the uk. Any info and advice would be extremely appreciated 😊

Thanks for sharing this. Can I ask how the insects are inside the unit? If you get bugs inside, (or lizards, etc) what type do you get? You look pretty high up, so are you above mosquitoes? Also, do the aircons cool the entire unit? Can you get the unit down to 70 degrees in the hot season?

If you're above the 7th floor - cool breeze and no flying insects. A lot of the ground areas are also sprayed to keep the mozzies down.

I lived alone in a Gulf country for a year I had a 3 story town house 7 bedrooms all with ensuites, 3 living rooms, dining, lounge , maids quarters, sweepimg staircases, balconys on every level 14 split system A/Cs. The complex had a fully equiped gym, sauna, communal rooms and a very large pool similar to what you are showing. Would I live there permanently - No..... why because the locals resented the fact that cashed up foreigners could come and live in their country in a style that a majority of them couldnt afford. Could the average Malaysian afford a place like that I have no idea but then if they cant its not much different than the average Australian not being able to afford something like that here.. Different story if you arrive somewhere and you already have money in the bank or if your are getting income from a western country and spending it in a cheaper country. Over my working life I have had been granted residency for periods of time in a number of countries around the world. With the cost of living in places like South Africa and Mozambique, I could vrirtually live like royalty. The advantage was I worked for an Australian Company we earnt our salary is USD which was then converted to AUD and I paid for things over there in their local currency. I earnt a day what a lot of the locals there were earning a month so its not really a fair comparison to judge what lifestyle I could afford when in those countries to what I can afford back here.

Great video. How much would this apartment cost to buy? According to my calculations, assuming 5% rental, it would be around AUD$260,000? Does it sound about right?

I lived in an apartment in Europe for over 20 years, I hated it compared to a detached house in Australia.

Strata payments? Biggest issue with most apartments are the Strata costs that can increase over time and can be like paying two mortgages in some cases. Edit: ok you're only renting it
