Hey guys! After we filmed this video, VinFast talked a little more details on the battery leasing program, here are some of the pricing options: For a flexible lease (good option if you drive very little), you'll pay $35 dollars a month for the VF 8 and $44 a month for the VF 9. That includes 310 miles of driving a month, any more than that and you'll pay an additional 11 cents per mile for the VF 8 and 15 cent per mile for the VF 9. For the fixed lease amount with unlimited mileage, you'll pay $110 a month for the VF 8 or $160 a month for the VF 9. Remember, if the battery capacity drops below 70%, VinFast will replace the battery, free of charge. That is how they are able to charge a lot less for the car. VinFast will also add the option to buy a vehicle and purchase the battery outright if you prefer, rather than paying for the subscription. Its a unique proposition for those of you concerned about the battery replacement cost down the line.

What is the reason of leasing a battery when there is already a 10 yr warranty on it? Most new EVs are warrantied to hold at least 90% of their charge after 100k miles so that means that Battery lease is just another way for this manufacturer to make profit. Charging a lot less how? The car already starts at $40k and that is how much most EVs are currently priced at. Seems like a marketing ad to me specially from an unknown car manufacturer like “VinFast”

Future car reviews are mostly going to be about how comfortable the seats are, the tech, space for storing, and how smooth it rides. They're all going to have instant torque so we know they're going to be pretty comparable as far as 0 to 60 and 1/4 mi. This car here is a millisecond faster than the so-and-so. Sure right now there are a second or two differences with some EV but that gap will close.

There is a fat chance if they do anything in North Carolina. Their huge assembling facility in Hai Phong has been under-used for years, it's getting worse this year when they stopped assembling petrol cars. It's now operating at less than 10% of designed capacity. They also lack capital severely, they had to use their real estate as collateral to borrow money to fund the construction of battery assembling plant in Ha Tinh. As a car company, they have virtually no tech, no reputation and only assembling. Why would they build another big factory in a higher cost environment when they are having huge excess capacity, suffering severe lack of capital and have no tech? Vinfast will build a big factory in North Carolina? It's only a red herring...a very big one that is. I reckon they are trying to create a false perception that they are doing it in the US to lure the American consumers into buying a high-cost product from an unproven car company, a communist-run company, a loss-making business no less.

As a car company, they have no reputation, virtually no tech, only assembling. In socialist Viet Nam, communist-run Vinfast / Vingroup has been struggling to sell cars to break even and made loss year in year out because the Vietnamese consumers are weary of their cars. All the tech-related businesses they ventured into have failed miserably...so brace yourself if you go ahead with the reservations.

Vingroup Joint Stock Company is the largest conglomerate of Vietnam, focusing on technology, industry, real estate development, retail, and services ranging from healthcare, education to hospitality. They have been manufacturing cars, especially gas-fueled ones for about 4 years, and over 30,000 cars have been sold and used in Vietnam since 2018. In addition, VinFast is the fifth best-selling car brand in Vietnam. Over 6,500 units of VinFast Lux A2.0 executive sedan based on the F10 BMW 5 Series, had been sold and over 6,000 units of VinFast Lux SA2.0 premium crossover based on the F15 BMW X5, had been delivered. Fadil had been Vietnam's best-selling A-segment car of the year, with the most powerful engine of its segment and a full range of comfort and safety features, but the most well-known one was the VinFast President, which was a BMW X5 powered by a GM V8. This gave the President its own personality! Since October 2021 after VinFast initiated their EV production, over 100 electric cars VFe35 has been delivered in Vietnam. Moreover, VinFast EVs had been tested and they all met the NHTSA, Euro NCAP and ASEAN NCAP 5 star-ratings, which explained why VinFast has confidently joined all the well-known international auto shows from Paris, Los Angeles, Las Vegas to New York. As a result, saying VinFast had "no manufacturing expertise or experience, much less engineering a moving vehicle" is completely ignorant and baseless. From beginning with a goal of competitively selling cars especially EVs in Vietnam and globally, the company has relied on Siemens' expertise to utilize the latest technology. In fact, VinFast has teamed up with car manufactures from America, Europe and Siemens to build its automotive factory in 21 months, taking full advantage of the modern automotive technology to speed up their production while maintaining quality and reputation. Remember when starting to make its first EVs, Tesla did not have any experience in making cars, including gasoline ones, which explained why the very first Tesla cars had so many problems like Tesla doors jammed, unable to stop the Tesla cars even after hitting breaks, Tesla cars lost control after engines started. Just google them, you will see tons of them. By contrast, VinFast did have experience in manufacturing gasoline cars before making their EVs. In reality, VinFast has made not only electric cars like VF5, VF6, VF7, VF8, VF9; but also public electric buses (VinBus or eBus or smart Bus) with a battery capacity of 281 kWh, and the smart buses can travel between 220 - 260 km (130 - 160 miles) on a single charge, carrying 50-60 passengers at a time. Last December, VinFast launched a fleet of 100 - 200 smart electric buses in Phu Quoc, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, trying to achieve its goal of making greener cities in the country. I don't recall Tesla really making any public electric transportation! Everyone knows Hyperloop is just a pipe of dream. This explained why it's easy for VinFast with all the experiences to transform itself into a fully EV manufacturer. Transparent and open, VinFast information has been posted everywhere on the internet worldwide.

@@usmantariq7997 losing 70% in three years is basically impossible. In fact most stories about losing more than 10% capacity within ten years is usually fossil fuel industry FUD (or, again, Nissan leaf, air cooled batteries are crap). @@Ryukachoo So you're saying that EVs can hold more than 90% of their battery capacity even after 10 years regardless of the amount of usage? Any data to back that up? I'm just curious because as far as I researched, they say that EVs loses at least about 1.5 to 2% per year. While that still doesn't mean less than 70%, but I believe an EV should loose more than 10% after 10 years continuous usage.

Battery leasing can work for consumers if they are well designed and priced to reflect local consumers' driving and usage pattern, but VinFast's current proposed battery leasing program seemed otherwise. 310 miles/month (~500 km/month) for US$35-$44 seemed a bit too low mileage for many American consumers (that's 3720 miles/yr) and $110-160/month for unlimited miles seemed a bit too high. Remember, car buyers still have to pay for charging and so you have to include that cost as well (unlike scooters' battery leasing/swap programs offered in Asia/Europe where your next battery is always charged when you are ready to swap/replenish at the swap station). Maybe 1,000 miles/month (i.e. 12,000 miles/yr) for $30/month and $80/month for unlimited miles (plus maybe a 20% drop on the car's price) can be more appealing to consumers. Regardless, a new company in the EV market is always welcomed, as long as it can induce more competition, innovation, and benefitting many consumers.
